I wonder if the owners would change their mind if rovers became self sufficient? I can see the club becoming self sufficient and making a profit ever year soon, as I believe it'll end up similar to the NHL with wage caps. Then the majority of extra money will be spent on transfers- but they could become irrelivent soon if players become more powerful and buy themselves out of contracts. We do seem to be getting closer to this position. Just been thinking this for a while now...

I think the reality is that the owners do not like football and only own the club because of Jack Walker's interest. The extremely large debts of the top 4 - plus one or two others and the extremely large pay for players and the transfers - I believe is reaching the maximum limit. Football the way it is going cannot continue - attendence's will get less because of the credit crunch / recession - what comes first for all of us football or the basic essentials of life, food / homes / families. Football could become one of those things that we cannot keep hold of.

The majority of football clubs cannot match the big clubs for money at the moment - but it only takes a situation when the people lending the money to these big clubs with large debts to say 'we are not lending you anymore until you pay what you already owe us' then a change in football will take place - these big clubs would be bankrupt. Rovers current debt is at the moment managerable and would survive such a fall out.

In the current world money situation at the moment, something like this could happen. It won't be will we win the prem this year or a cup or get into europe - but can we stay in business.

The current owners want to sell - no matter what. To be honest in my view, with the cost of players wages / transfers etc - I think you need to be a madman to even consider buying a football club these days. Unless you have a bottomless pit like the chelsea owner does.

What's the problem? - doesn't Berlusconi own AC Milan?

....and Shiniwatra is deemed a fit and proper person to run a club

Just as well Karadzic never fancied owning a footy team - he'd have found someone willing to do business with him in th prem -_-

1. Takeover. There are currently 2 expressions of interest that Rothschilds are dealing with, but these are at a very early stage. To date no bidder has got anywhere near a due diligence stage, despite what you might have read. The Trust would still like to sell, but only to someone who will "preserve Jack's legacy". Since Jack's death the Trust have invested over £40m in the club.

Good to hear that's there's a couple of interested parties, albeit at an early stage. Hopefully this can develop a bit more into something a bit more substantial.

There have plenty more who have got to this stage but have come to nothing. there is no reason to expect that anything significant will happen soon.

I do not believe that there are any 'seriously' interested parties wanting to takeover Rovers. Even if there are they will fade away like all the rest. The trusties want too much and this puts off any interested party. Until the trusties come down in their price - things will stay as they are - which is also not a bad thing.

Personally for Jack Walkers memory sake I would prefer it if the current owners could be persuaded to invest more and keep hold of the club. lets be honest many a time the song 'there is only one Jack walker' is sung. would this then stop if or when new owners come in?

Would Jack Walker be forgotton?

Would not any new owner feel agrieved or not wanted because Rovers sing there is only one Jack Walker and not their name?

I think people forget that there are many implications in wanting new owners - yes the money into the club - but Jack Walker fades from the memories of Rovers supporters - which I am sure none of us want.

In my view it would therefore be better if Rovers supporters got a campaign going pleading with the current owners to keep the club and invest in it more for the sake of Jack Walker.

"Let's make Di Canio a contract offer he can't refuse.............."

That's dodgy, but we have all sorts of shady characters here too. Sinawatra, Gaydemak, Abramovich and so on. At least Lazio weren't bought by Michael Knighton.

We don't even have dodgy characters interested in buying Rovers.

I think we do. John Williams and the board.

1. We p1ss Hughes off by withdrawing ALL funding and sell Hughes and his team to City for 5m.

2. We replace him with the cheapest option.

3. Over the close season we sell Friedel, Bentley, RSC, Warnock and Samba for 45m making 50m in total. Replace em with a decrepit old striker and winger and a few of MK Dons star players.

4. Hand over the lot to the Trust fund who in turn hand over the keys of ewood to JW and the board.

5. We drop down the divisions in freefall and the only objector is the milkman again.

6. Faced with bankruptcy we end up forming Lancashire Utd but by now only Stanley and Darwen are willing to come aboard.

How dodgy do you want it to be pafell?

And then we could move to Darwen's new multi million stadium .

Read all about it in tomorrow's Darrener :tu:

According to the LT in the last few days, the previous owner has taken over again and has pulled the plug on the new stadium.

It might be Ewood! And all part of the deal to give control of the council to the Conservatives.

They are already part of the coalition running the council.

My dad is the Rovers milkman, and yes this is one of the things you would actually get right ;)
