Faz_Rover Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I've said, in another post, that this ongoing situation with the Premier League is going to kill English football because of the lack of the 'trickle down' effect but, if the big teams did leave, it would make the situation worse because all of the money would go to the big team league. . Makes you even proud that we signed Andrews and Bunn then. At least we're doing our bit But on a serious note, we will get bought. Simply because most billionaires would think "He's got a PL club, I want one". Man Utd Chelsea Arsenal (Romanov) Liverpool Citeh Villa Pompey West Ham Newcastle Stoke Sunderland All have been bought. That leaves us with rovers, Spurs, Boro, Wigan, Fulham, Everton, Hull and West Brom. As we all know Spurs have the money. West Brom and Stoke have money from coming into the PL. Boro have quite a few ££'s. Fulham are splashing out cash aswell. Everton are struggling a little but still managed to buy Felliani. That leaves Rovers competing financially with Wigan. Looking at that makes us see how good of a manager we lost in Sparky and to get European football witht that kind of money was brilliant. It's horrible to say, but the fact now is that football is run by money. The question is would you welcome any type of Investor or do agree with the Rovers policy and wait for the "right man" to buy us out?

Ossydave Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Whoever made that crap up probably just looked their values up on Champ Manager or something similar and told all his mates. Penis.

RoverRich Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Sorry but.........he is involved with QPR already: http://qprreport.blogspot.com/2008/08/foot...ers-1-qprs.html I can't believe some of the stats on that list! QPR have the wealthiest owner and we have the 9th wealthiest owners in British football! Proof that some people don't splash the cash or don't really contribute to their clubs. Then there is the likes of Damien Duff and Harry Kewell in the top 10 richest footballers! Crazy stuff....
Eddie Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 The group only took over QPR last season and they've invested fairly heavily for a championship club. The biggest problem that they have is that even with all the money in the world they still aren't in the top division, until they get there they simply can't attract big names. I don't think anyone wants to see an owner come in and spend hundreds of millions, that would be worrying for me as no one is wealthy enough to keep that going and it also usually indicates that they view it as a play thing, expect quick results and generally they like to be involved. Ideally what we would need is someone willing to come in, keep us out of debt and then ensure that we have 20ish million to spend each season. That's somewhat similar to the way QPR are being run as far as I can tell (although not 20 million, they appear to have a fairly big budget relative to the league).

My tip - stay away if does, he's crackers.
iamarover Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Man Utd Chelsea Arsenal (Romanov) Liverpool Citeh Villa Pompey West Ham Newcastle Stoke SunderlandAll have been bought. That leaves us with rovers, Spurs, Boro, Wigan, Fulham, Everton, Hull and West Brom. Fulham have Al Fayed. Where this is going is to an NFL type franchise operation. Not all of these teams can win the League or qualify for Europe by definition. So ultimately foreign billionaires who couldnt give a monkey's cuss for English football tradition could easily vote themselves in for a relegation free private members league. Free of the shackles of fear, the bloated bandwagon of marketing strategies, rights sales and corporate copulation will reach an orgiastic frenzy. Can't wait.
67splitscreen Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Your mate doesn't work with sharp tools or driving does he? My tip - stay away if does, he's crackers. The only link there would be steel, and as we no longer have that, crackers is a bit of a under statement
Billy Castell Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I think that Mittal rumour needs to be put in the same file as rumours about Elvis being alive and the world being ruled by space lizards.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 So what do we do? Tell the Big 5 or Big 6 to stick it? Tell them to go and form a European / Middle East Super League? Who really wouldn't mind seeing a new League with the likes of Preston, Barnsley, Stoke, Palace, Bradford and that lot down the road etc? We could call it "Division 2" (crazy I know) - have a salary cap, develop a good Youth system (you mention the City fan worried about their Youth team allrovertheworld, I very much doubt their new owners are) for English players who could go on to play for England, try and develop something that isn't about who has the deepest pockets but is about who has the ability to develop and bring players through and is reliant on good coaching and management. Thanks for the idea... but really, no thanks Bob.
bob fleming Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Thanks for the idea... but really, no thanks Bob. I can totally understand that. Then again where's the glory in finishing 14th every year? Or when success is avoiding relegation every season? * I don't really want to go back to where we came either, of course I don't, but the gap between the haves and the have nots has never been greater. It's not about football anymore it's about who can spend the most cash (as I said it was bad enough before but the money Man City are talking is just obscene). And what's that got to do with Sport? It'll be a division of 5 BIG clubs and the rest - who are paupers - who should just consider themselves lucky to play these 5 teams. How dull. What will the Premier League do about it? Nothing. Too late for that isn't it. * Short memory, blah blah, glory hunter blah blah - should be greatful etc etc
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 So no pride is taken when little 'owd Rovers beat these so-called BIG clubs then Bob? Personally i'd rather we fight and try to stand our ground in the top flight in an almost David v Goliath situation than just watch our team and club slowly wither away and die a painful death in the lower echelons of football playing Barnlsey infront of 7,000. Like I say Bob no thanks, lets play these top sides infront of around 30,000 at Ewood, lets have the worldwide media coverage and lets take the money on offer that helps our proud small town club stay in the top flight. In the entire history of Rovers we have spent more time in the top flight of English football than out of it.....LETS KEEP IT THAT WAY!
bob fleming Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 So no pride is taken when little 'owd Rovers beat these so-called BIG clubs then Bob? Come on - you know that doesn't need answering! Good post. You're right of course, we should and will fight on, hopefully in the top flight as well for many years to come. I've not made my point very well, clearly, if we were talking about this over a pint I'm sure you'd get my point.
Olveres Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I think that Mittal rumour needs to be put in the same file as rumours about Elvis being alive and the world being ruled by space lizards. You mean he isn't and it isn't?? My belief systems shattered in one sentence.
PAFELL Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I can totally understand that. Then again where's the glory in finishing 14th every year? Too late for that isn't it. * Short memory, blah blah, glory hunter blah blah - should be greatful etc etc If Platini gets his way then a lot of clubs are going to suffer. Liverpool, man U all with huge debt. If these clubs were not allowed into the champions league because of their debt, it would casue major problems for these clubs. It would be even harder to pay off what they owe and the current owners would leave. I believe one or two clubs will shortly implode - maybe in about 2 years. If a major ressession happens in the uk, fans will not go to football, they won't pay sky / setanta subscriptions. Man City and Chelsea are maybe the only clubs without huge debts. Rovers have a debt, but not as large as others. Clubs like Rovers have just to sit and wait until the fallout.
ESussexrover Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Man City and Chelsea do have debt in a sense. Their owners are/will losing money hand over fist to enjoy a status symbol and to perhaps enjoy the feeling that they can exercise some pressure on the manager for stab at running a football club (Mike Ashley / Keegan !!). How long are even the richest people in the world going to carry on like that for! The way things are going, it takes £150 Million just to build a half decent side, let alone pay the players who are just guns for hire these days. Hello Im Robinho and I am pleased to sign for Chelsea...sorry I meant Man City. With the Champions League, I believe some of these foreign investors thing Football and the EPL is a road to riches, nothing else. There are limited places though and its going to get messy. Of all the clubs bought, they mostly have a commercial sense to them. If you ve got money, even Burnley could be made as title contenders. I believe they are in for a sure shock and it will be the fans who pick up the mess as always.
67splitscreen Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Not sure where I should have put this, so I will dump it here, with so much talk about ££££££, achievement and ambition. I think this link I found, while looking for something else puts into perspective what the current board and ex managers to some degree, have done to secure our future to date. The Financial overview for the season 99/00 is absolutely astounding, The wage to turnover % was 171.6 Although we get snippets from some of members in the take over thread Etc., to see an overview from 93/94 - 05/06 just goes to show how well the club is being run. Since 93/94 to 05/06 employees also went from 108 to 223 If you notice you can go to the top of the page and search all clubs, listed as Ltd. or PLC. Alkso lots of other goodies like Pl prize money by Year. Financial Overview
PAFELL Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 How much debt are we in??? About 15 to 20 million I heard - not sure if that is correct - could be less with the bentley sale and off the wage bill.
