philipl Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Philip see my earlier post on 3 Sep...the only way out for Man U and the Glazers is a buy out by someone or something that is willing to pay off the banks...it would be funny if no-one came forward but can't see it myself. I agree but at £755m debt (over £800m now), that's a number which will even make an oil sheikh blink. Putting it in context with the City deal- £250m sorts out all debts, probably buys the City Council out of their Stadium interest and gives outright control notwithstanding Thaksin's figleaf which he will be paying dearly for. Another £250m (say) spent in team strengthening and ADUG go into 2009/10 with a commanding football team for half a billion (less than Abramovich has spent at Chelski). Compared with that, at Man U they have to winkle out some intransigent old Americans (DIC will have stories to tell about the two at Anfield), with no certainty on timing (2010 at the earliest) or eventual success and are probably looking at the wrong end of a billion just to get unencumbered control of a club in the dying embers of the Ferguson era. Buying City is an absolute no brainer in that context. But it does mean Hughes is toast if he doesn't deliver CL qualification this season. SGE with a weaker squad was on course to do that for half of last season until Thaksin started being an absolute pratt in the way he undermined him. If ADUG set a trend and not only Liverpool fall inevitably into the hands of DIC, but say the Kuwaitis, the Qataris and the Saudis not forgetting the Sultan of Brunei grab themselves a Prem football club (Everton, Newcastle and Spurs quite likely to be the next candidates), who is going to want to bail out the Glazers and the banks at Man U when you could save yourself a billion and do the same trick at little old Rovers with by then not dissimilar odds of sporting success??

Paul Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 ..... 3 would still be relegated! Not for much longer
philipl Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Flybe's strong results are good news for the Walker Trust
Hughesy Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 See that the indian geezer is to fly to the uk today with one sole aim of purchasing a premier league football club - with newcastle the favourite at the moment. Maybe someone should tell him about our club being for sale and the fact that we have a much better set up and playing squad already
Ronin Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Just do a Ferguson, and bundle him in a car as soon as he arrives at the airport
Mr Creosote Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Flybe's strong results are good news for the Walker Trust Throw us a bone ya *****
OJRovers Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Good points Philip about Man Utd but I think their brand strength should be taken into account when comparing eg rich Sheik buys either: MUFC: £800m to clear debts MCFC: £800m to clear debt/buy stadium/buy best players in the world At this point the teams on the pitch might be similar standard but even with a successful team City will not be anywhere near Utd's global earning power, this could take 10+ years to build up -if at all possible. So the cost of funding this hole in the revenues for that period of time should be taken into account.
Hughesy Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Should also take into account their profits (if debt free when taken over) each year. Compared to that of City's. They have 30,000 extra seats to start. Followed by a much bigger global support and massive merchandise sales compared.

Citeh do not own or even have a mortgage on the COMS as it is owned by the council and they rent it from them, so no asset there, plus they will be limited to what they can do with it, or at least will have the pay the council through the nose to develop anything or even purchase the stadium. The City of Manchester Council would be very silly to sell the stadium and the land as they get a very tidy regular income from it as it stands.

When backed by the multi Billions that it seems they will be I'm sure they will make a suitable offer. It cost 110 Million, they are rumoured to be doing this plus land on top around it. Planning serious expansion plus extra's.

When you have got £550 billion, one erson who will not come calling is the balliff. The sad truth is a lot of people are glory hunters - city may not have the support, brand etc that man u have. Yet when they start to build their team with the money avaliable that will change - it may take a few years, but can happen. Take into consideration those who cannot get a season ticket for man u, these could end up at city. When Rovers had jack Walkers money the crowds came in - yet when the team started to struggle, they left, they were the glory hunters.

Thats very true Chelski are proof of that my boss is a x chelski season ticket holder and he often complains that 10 years ago they never had a full stadium, now when he goes back to london he finds it hard to get hold of a ticket.
prestonblue Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I suggest we all buy a euro lottery ticket, that would be the only way we'd get brought out. Do this every week last fridays prize was over £96 million my numbers were 12,16,17,39,43 lucky stars were 3,8 If only i had picked number 7 instead of 43 ? Have to make do with £4,336.20 for matching 4 plus 2 stars still not bad as i only earn £2 an hour working at rovers PB
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 £2 an hour? Not starting a chant there by the way. Isn't that below the minimum wage?
prestonblue Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 £2 an hour? Not starting a chant there by the way. Isn't that below the minimum wage? Yes i was quoting another poster who said in the multifaith room thread the £2 an hour brigade (stewards) waded in getting tough lol btw I sure dont do the job for the money if you work out how long we are there on matchdays and the fact we dont get paid for extra time etc in cup matches Mind you the job has its good points ........................ PB
Brownie Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Why can we not call clubs by their actual names like Chelsea and City. Neither Citeh or Chelski are remotely inventive or funny. Reminds me of the wags in the pub who make me giggle every time they order a pint of Warstarter .........
bigbrandjohn Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 This is all kind of interesting, but does anyone else have severe post Nicko withdrawal symptoms. Nothing to get the adrenaline running, nothing to make us dream "imagine if that happened" . Nothing to get us all whipped into a frenzy. What have you done to me Nicko. Throw us a bone as to who really is on Ince's master plan for January. I know he has shared it with you.

And why the hell do you have an Amazon spam add connected to the link line?
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 It's happened on a few threads, random words are being picked up and linked to Amazon. Must be advertising for the site. Worst kind as well, annoying when you are trying to decipher which are hot links and which are just underlined advert wielding words.
Tris Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 The journalist from Arabian Business who broke the story about the Man City takeover on 1st Sept has been on Sky Sports News again today, talking about the revelation that ADUG approached both Newcastle and Man City but that Man City were "more receptive". During the SSN interview, he says The Abu Dhabi Royal Family had decided that for various reasons they wanted a football club - an English club - the only two that seemed to be available were Manchester City and Newcastle I contacted him and asked him why he didn't know that Rovers were available, and had been for over 12 months, and he answered : "As far as I know, it is simply because Blackburn - or their advisors - haven't made any noise about selling. I hadn't heard they were looking for a sale - and I know nobody here had. Plus also Man City's problems - and therefore likely sale - were very public so it gave the club quite a high profile around the world." I know that's only the perspective from one journalist / one news organisation, and there are other holes (like what about Everton) - thought it was worth asking the question anyway.
Iceman Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Interesting! Well it does seem, very quiet on the 4 sale side at Rovers.
Hughesy Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Yeah maybe us fans should start getting contacts all over the world and start sending emails through to them to make them aware. Anyone got Richard Bransons email or maybe that Bill Gates fella? Also just noticed from the profile Nicko was on here at 11am this morning. You can contribute Nicko if you like. Maybe you can get us some contacts to make them more aware that we are for sale?

Pm to JW perhaps. How can you sell something, that is not advertised/promoted in the rite corridors. Someone should put it on the web. EPL club for sale, wonder how much commission you would receive. zilch.
