nicko Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 Also just noticed from the profile Nicko was on here at 11am this morning. You can contribute Nicko if you like. Maybe you can get us some contacts to make them more aware that we are for sale? Rovers have been for sale - and using an 'agency' to tell people - for quite a long time. The only problem is the valuation. I will believe an Arab takeover - and its benefits - when I see one...

67splitscreen Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Some how I get the feeling MH will be steering well clear of any football clubs for a while BUT, who knows, it's a funny old game
DingleBaiter Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Anyone hoping we approach Ashley? In a close season of gross stupidity of WTF? moments, your question is surely a joke, no? Are you even remotely serious? Why, are you hoping we do? Go on, tell us - I'm enthralled at least
Fife Rover Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Anyone hoping we approach Ashley? You mean so he can bring Wise and all the rest of that baggage with him. Mind you, it should be a sure way of keeping Ince here for the long haul........hmmmm! maybe not such a bad idea.
bringdunnback Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Nicko can you remind us of what the trustees are asking for including debts and all that? Anyway great to see you back nicko. Any chance on some info on Bechen, Yildirim and Christanval.
T4E Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 In a close season of gross stupidity of WTF? moments, your question is surely a joke, no? Are you even remotely serious? Why, are you hoping we do? Go on, tell us - I'm enthralled at least Would it be worse than we've got now? Having read his statement released yesterday, it seems Ashley wanted Newcastle to be the same as Rovers, self sufficient, but with a higher budget. The people he hired and structure he put in place were designed to make Newcastle competitive without risking potential destruction. Doesn't sound too bad?
Mc Love Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Would it be worse than we've got now? Having read his statement released yesterday, it seems Ashley wanted Newcastle to be the same as Rovers, self sufficient, but with a higher budget. The people he hired and structure he put in place were designed to make Newcastle competitive without risking potential destruction. Doesn't sound too bad? Plus the fact that he would be much more suited to a club like ours! Its only the fact that NUFC fans think they are a top four club, thats the problem!
bubblerrovers Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I hear Ashley and Wise have gone to Dubai to seek a buyer, I bet within a couple a weeks they will have a billionaire. Surely Mr Williams must try this as the "Agency" trying to sell our club arn't doing the best of jobs clearly.
AggyBlue Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Anyone hoping we approach Ashley? The black an white stripes would be visible under his Rovers shirt.
bubblerrovers Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 To be fair i'd love Ashley to get involved but can't see it. I'd be more than happy if he put 20 million a year. I don't think he's done much wrong, WE CLEARLY need people looking for transfer targets with Ince as he has no clue.
Taggart Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Rovers have been for sale - and using an 'agency' to tell people - for quite a long time. The only problem is the valuation. I will believe an Arab takeover - and its benefits - when I see one... Good to see you back Nicko - been checking every day for some dcent updates on the behind the scenes at Ewood, asI am slighlty worried after the last three games ! Still behind Ince, and he still has to prove himself, but I`m not filled with optimisim at this early stage !
Mc Love Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 the thing with our agency is, they are looking for investors that are going to be here for the long run and to keep Jacks wishes, whatever they maybe! So unless someone comes along by rotschilds with them credentals then we will be sold
Rover4ever Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 After being the first on this board to know of the City deal, I bring you another gem....... Nearly fell of my chair laughing when i read of the "English Football Club" mentioned in the heading http://www.arabianbusiness.com/531197-engl...investors?ln=en English football club seeks Arab investors Tuesday, 16 September 2008 FUNDING CALL: Burnley are seeking investors from the Gulf to help finance a stadium revamp. Burnley Football Club is seeking a "strategic investor" from the Gulf as speculation increases over more deals involving British football clubs and regional investors. Majority owner and property developer Brendan Flood is looking to attract investment from the region to help fund the $50 million redevelopment of the Turf Moor stadium as well as other planned projects in the retail sector. “It’s a club with super-sized ambition and we need an investor with a super-sized cheque book. It could help fulfill a lot for us,” he said in an interview with Arabian Business. His comments come as speculation grows over the likelihood of more deals involving clubs following in the wake of the surprise acquisition of Manchester City by Abu Dhabi investors earlier this month. Reports also emerged this week of renewed interest from UAE investors in both Newcastle FC and Liverpool FC. Burnley, which counts among its supporters Tony Blair spin doctor Alistair Campbell and Sir Bernard Ingham, who performed the same role for Margaret Thatcher, is one of the oldest clubs in Britain and has a town centre stadium.
Laurence Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 To be fair i'd love Ashley to get involved but can't see it. I'd be more than happy if he put 20 million a year. I don't think he's done much wrong, WE CLEARLY need people looking for transfer targets with Ince as he has no clue. We've just seen Ashley completly foul things up at Newcastle. Just because he has more money than sense its no reason to want him at Rovers.
Hughesy Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 What has Ashley done wrong at Newcastle? Reduced there debts by over 100 million, set up a world-wide scouting network, signed some very promising players, and signed the manager that the fans wanted.

Aye, and then promptly pished him off enough to have him stomp out of Sid James Park without the door banging his arshe. Can't see Ashley anywhere near a football club (investment wise) for a long long time to come - it just goes to show, rich people's playthings can sometimes bite em back in the bum. I would like to hear more positive noises coming from Rothschilds though - no doubt they are on a healthy 'retainer' whilst seeking suitably qualified buyers for BRFC... I wonder how much it has cost already - I would wager it isn't a 'no foal / no fee' arrangement
T4E Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 What has Ashley done wrong at Newcastle? Reduced there debts by over 100 million, set up a world-wide scouting network, signed some very promising players, and signed the manager that the fans wanted. There is the answer to your question. If Ashley has a fault, it's his desperation to be loved by the fans. He has made one or two poor business decisions because of it. I'm sure he wouldn't make the same mistake twice.
Hughesy Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Yes I agree, it was the fans fault. Messiah or legend my ass! Keegan went, because he has always been a loose cannon, regardless of ownership or who does what, it was always waiting to happen, from the very first minute the took on a director of football. If he wasnt happy, he should of quit then. Personally id love to see someone like Ashley put £20m a year into Rovers.
Ricky Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I'd have no problems with Ashley coming in for Rovers, not that I can see it happening though. At the end of the day he bought in the manager the fans wanted, he was probably right to have someone looking at transfer targets as KK had not been involved in top flight football for some time and had no idea about the type of player to bring in. I think he would be a good option but cant really see it happening.
Hughesy Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Lets get a petition going, or a facebook group and get it into the public limelight and maybe he will sell the Geordies and buy us?
Billy Castell Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Let us say Ashley bid for us, and took control. He is steady with money, and perhaps the structure he was attempting at Newcastle would put in place an experienced person to help Ince. Doesn't sound too bad really.
Head Rover Heels Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Doesn't sound too bad really. From the press statement he gave, it doesn't sound too bad at all does it. Quite simply, he chose the wrong club to try it with - Geordie fans are notorious for their "Wah. We want success and we want it right now" attitude. Any kind of long term plan is completely wasted on them, but would be a godsend for a club like ours. However, let it not be forgotten, his company was the one that was responsible for our Club Shops, er, brilliance, over recent years
Billy Castell Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Oh God I forgot about our club shop. Anyway, I agree that Newcastle were the wrong club to do this with for the reasons above. Rovers would be ideal for such a plan, as long as Ashley keeps away from the club shop. I'm talking myself into supporting this idea!
