[Archived] Rovers Takeover Thread

Recommended Posts

Also just noticed from the profile Nicko was on here at 11am this morning. You can contribute Nicko if you like.

Maybe you can get us some contacts to make them more aware that we are for sale?

Rovers have been for sale - and using an 'agency' to tell people - for quite a long time.

The only problem is the valuation.

I will believe an Arab takeover - and its benefits - when I see one... ;)

In a close season of gross stupidity of WTF? moments, your question is surely a joke, no? Are you even remotely serious?

Why, are you hoping we do?

Go on, tell us - I'm enthralled at least :o

Would it be worse than we've got now?

Having read his statement released yesterday, it seems Ashley wanted Newcastle to be the same as Rovers, self sufficient, but with a higher budget. The people he hired and structure he put in place were designed to make Newcastle competitive without risking potential destruction. Doesn't sound too bad?

Plus the fact that he would be much more suited to a club like ours! Its only the fact that NUFC fans think they are a top four club, thats the problem!

After being the first on this board to know of the City deal, I bring you another gem....... :D

Nearly fell of my chair laughing when i read of the "English Football Club" mentioned in the heading

English football club seeks Arab investors

Tuesday, 16 September 2008

FUNDING CALL: Burnley are seeking investors from the Gulf to help finance a stadium revamp. Burnley Football Club is seeking a "strategic investor" from the Gulf as speculation increases over more deals involving British football clubs and regional investors.

Majority owner and property developer Brendan Flood is looking to attract investment from the region to help fund the $50 million redevelopment of the Turf Moor stadium as well as other planned projects in the retail sector.

“It’s a club with super-sized ambition and we need an investor with a super-sized cheque book. It could help fulfill a lot for us,” he said in an interview with Arabian Business.

His comments come as speculation grows over the likelihood of more deals involving clubs following in the wake of the surprise acquisition of Manchester City by Abu Dhabi investors earlier this month. Reports also emerged this week of renewed interest from UAE investors in both Newcastle FC and Liverpool FC.

Burnley, which counts among its supporters Tony Blair spin doctor Alistair Campbell and Sir Bernard Ingham, who performed the same role for Margaret Thatcher, is one of the oldest clubs in Britain and has a town centre stadium.

To be fair i'd love Ashley to get involved but can't see it. I'd be more than happy if he put 20 million a year. I don't think he's done much wrong, WE CLEARLY need people looking for transfer targets with Ince as he has no clue.

We've just seen Ashley completly foul things up at Newcastle. Just because he has more money than sense its no reason to want him at Rovers.

What has Ashley done wrong at Newcastle? Reduced there debts by over 100 million, set up a world-wide scouting network, signed some very promising players, and signed the manager that the fans wanted.

Aye, and then promptly pished him off enough to have him stomp out of Sid James Park without the door banging his arshe.

Can't see Ashley anywhere near a football club (investment wise) for a long long time to come - it just goes to show, rich people's playthings can sometimes bite em back in the bum.

I would like to hear more positive noises coming from Rothschilds though - no doubt they are on a healthy 'retainer' whilst seeking suitably qualified buyers for BRFC... I wonder how much it has cost already - I would wager it isn't a 'no foal / no fee' arrangement ^_^

There is the answer to your question. If Ashley has a fault, it's his desperation to be loved by the fans. He has made one or two poor business decisions because of it.

I'm sure he wouldn't make the same mistake twice.

Yes I agree, it was the fans fault. Messiah or legend my ass!

Keegan went, because he has always been a loose cannon, regardless of ownership or who does what, it was always waiting to happen, from the very first minute the took on a director of football. If he wasnt happy, he should of quit then.

Personally id love to see someone like Ashley put £20m a year into Rovers.

I'd have no problems with Ashley coming in for Rovers, not that I can see it happening though.

At the end of the day he bought in the manager the fans wanted, he was probably right to have someone looking at transfer targets as KK had not been involved in top flight football for some time and had no idea about the type of player to bring in.

I think he would be a good option but cant really see it happening.

Doesn't sound too bad really.
From the press statement he gave, it doesn't sound too bad at all does it.

Quite simply, he chose the wrong club to try it with - Geordie fans are notorious for their "Wah. We want success and we want it right now" attitude. Any kind of long term plan is completely wasted on them, but would be a godsend for a club like ours.

However, let it not be forgotten, his company was the one that was responsible for our Club Shops, er, brilliance, over recent years ;)
