thenodrog Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 People in Wilpshire might be trying to send their kids to schools in the Ribble Valley, or more pertinently, avoid sending them to schools in Blackburn (I wonder why...), but their mentality is very much Blackburn overspill. Think of it as the Ribble Valley's very own Essex to Blackburn's Eastend. Hey. I know why leftfooter!...... I thought everybody did. You have a think about it and PM me if you are still at a loss to find the answer. Its simple - one of us, needs to win a BIG euro lotto jackpot, invest the money and make 100's millions more and then buy Rovers. Yeah. But don't hold your breath it might take some time. My bank is offering 0.1% interest on interest paying current accounts

mellison24 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I too wonder why, because our school is very good. twice I've heard you mention your school Fan54 Mind if i ask where you teach? I may be a pupil of yours!! (I presume you teach Blackburn by the context of this conversation?)
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Just one look at our proud clubs honours list, its long traditions, its long list of England internationals and you see (despite its relatively small catchment area) why a high percentage of fans still return to Ewood season after season.....we are the most successful town club in the country and remain well loved in the hearts of many across this nation! I have read with distain many posts on this thread doing the town of Blackburn down(my place of birth).Yes its not the bright lights of London but just a very sweaty 5 minute cycle from my house on Livesey Branch up to the top of Heys Lane enters me into some of the most beautiful countryside around.Compare that to living in some of the inner City hell holes of London,Brum and Manchester......no ta! Infact, you know, when all said and done we're all quite lucky In Blackburn compared to some, you all know the saying.....you dont know what you had until its gone.

I do but I don't think you are, and I prefer to keep a bit of anonimity (that spelling looks odd but I can't see anything wrong with it) as far as possible, so I haven't so far said where I work to anyone on here.
gumboots Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Anonymity Thanks for that. As a languages teacher I should have got it right but sometimes the more you look at something the harder it is to see what's wrong!

I've been slightly negative towards Blackburn, but today or this week in particular with the sun shining Blackburn looks beautiful when the blossom trees are blooming all over town what a pretty sight its a pitty that we have to endure so many hours of grey skies and rain. Theres been a downer on Blackburn for the past few generations with many people moving out especially to more remote rural areas or even abroad which is fair enough. But when you look around and see the high percentage of teenagers that for me is the potential of Blackburn for future generations. Obviously the negatives come out far more than the positives but Blackburn has a lot of potential. How that potential is released is another matter but it is definitely there. I find these people who've moved away then slag Blackburn off as highly irritatable and bordering on being racist. The Ribble Valley sect as my wife from down south puts it are, 'up their own arses', 'pretentious materialistic w@nkers' acting way above their station in life looking down on Blackburns current population from a higher plain than they are worthy of. Just wished it was sunshine everyday.
only2garners Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Just been reading fan forum notes from April 8th (I think they were only posted on the site yesterday) and takeovers wasn't even brought up. Not even a simple statement of "no current interest" was recorded in the minutes. At the very least it should be mentioned but of course we can't ignore the crucial issue regarding corner flags now can we? On earlier forum dates when it has been mentioned it's been treated like some afterthought. It's not an afterthought it's the most important issue by far. Well there you go Vinjay - it looks like a whole lot of Rovers fans realise it's currently not a live issue. Personally I got fed up with writing the same minutes meeting after meeting. It is completely clear to me that nothing is going to happen in the near or medium future on a takeover so we have stopped wasting everyone's time. It's perhaps asking a bit much that you join us. I prefer to help develop ideas like the unreserved seating area rather than asking a question that I already know the answer to.

Just wished it was sunshine everyday. Bit strong there. I live in the Ribble Valley, work in Blackburn and love both in different ways. I work with a lot of the kids in Blackburn (work in 3 different schools) and mostly the ones i come across are keen and decent kids. You can't deny that it is run down in some areas - so are most towns and cities but all places have their charm when they mean something to you. My daughter even has a strange love for Stoke because she's based there at the moment. A stranger place to like than Blackburn.
PAFELL Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 It's not a small town. Blackburn has participated in City Challenge before something I assume only big towns are eligible for. Blackburn qualify for the city challange because it has a cathedral - that is the only reason. Most places in the uk with a cathedral receive city status. For some strange reason the powers that be have always rejected Blackburn to become a city. I also believe that when a town becomes a city there is additional funding granted to it, for awhile. Blackburn becoming a city may help put the place on the map - as to attracting investors - that is another story. To be honest when I come up to Blackburn I enjoy it. Like all of us we can all find something bad about the place we live in. Often it is better to look from the outside in. Blackburn has good public transport, road system, market and shopping centre - just to name a few things - people in Blackburn may not see these qualities because it is part of everyday life. But a visitor to Blackburn may see that Blackburn has better things than they have from where they come from. Often we only apprieciate something after it has gone.

SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Blackburn becoming a city may help put the place on the map Blackburn Rovers has been putting the town of Blackburn 'on the map' since 1875,I would say the club remains the towns biggest and well known asset by a very long way....it really is that important.
PAFELL Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Blackburn Rovers has been putting the town of Blackburn 'on the map' since 1875,I would say the club remains the towns biggest and well known asset by a very long way....it really is that important. Totally agree with that - the town is known because of Rovers. But I also consider that if Blackburn became a city, as it should be because of the cathedrals, this would boost the area in a business sence.
Claytons Left Boot Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 We could then change our name to Blackburn City FC. BC - BCF - BCFC - OK!!
Guest Vinjay606 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I suppose it could be a rare occasion where something associated with religion turns out to be useful. I wonder if Ipswich will do that if they get granted city status. Unless it already is a city I don't know for sure. Swansea changed their name from town to city in the late 60's maybe 1970.
Fife Rover Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Thanks for that. As a languages teacher I should have got it right but sometimes the more you look at something the harder it is to see what's wrong! No excuses girl! Write it out 500 times in detention tonight.
Guest Vinjay606 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Considering the spell checker on here it should be virtually impossible to spell incorrectly. Probably a good thing as it stops people being picky about what are more often than not bad typos.

Never know what is happening behind the scenes at football clubs. Charlton have been linked to several take overs during the time that Rovers have been up for sale. None have happened.

Parsonblue Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 The rich list in 'The Times' makes interesting reading. The Walker family lost £350million last year which probably explains the reluctance of the Trust to put more money into the club. Whatever changes Sam wants to make in the summer will, I suspect, have to be self funding. With no takeover on the horizon and the club owners losing money, we are going to have to rely on Sam to work some of his Bolton magic at Ewood. It should be an interesting summer in terms of comings and goings - no matter which division we are in next season.
Guest Vinjay606 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Doubt their funding would increase if they made 350 million. Takeover link for Liverpool http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/2793...IPL-TYCOON.html Plus Southampton have been linked to buyers who supposedly want to make Alan Shearer manager.
