[Archived] Rovers Takeover Thread

Recommended Posts

Some posters seem to have interpreted the namecheck you got in Brad's book to mean that you were instrumental in the flogging of our best ever goalkeeper.

The same posters who are continually telling Vinjay to be more realistic on this very thread.

I didn't know I got a mention...must buy one.

PM me with the abridged version if you want.

I live within 30 miles of blackburn (Lancaster). The simple (sad) truth is that 90% of people around here support Man Utd or Liverpool. 99% of who have no reason to support that club other than they are near the top of the table. They dont even sell Blackburn shirts in any of the local sports shops. Nearest place I can get one is in Preston and thats a struggle. Were never going to compete when we have Liverpool, Man U, Man City and Everton within half an hours drive. Young kids dont care about supporting local teams, they want the glory teams.

Armed with the benefit of hindsight nine years on, the "forseeable future" only actually meant "until we can sell someone like Damien Duff for shedloads of money. After that you're on your own."

Good thing Jack had time to set budgets for the promotion season.

Thats the sole reason why it should be totally free tickets for kids at ewood, ship them in by bus. Get them in, get them hooked - they are the lifeblood of any club.

We also need to improve our input into other towns (like preston, morecambe, leyland, bolton etc), we really need to branch out and get into peoples faces more.

Can't see the current owners implementing a long term strategy like that.

Getting in people's faces is exactly what the club need to be doing. Hence why I briefly used my BRFC Attitude "marketing logo" a few pages back. It all comes down to what type of attitude will a new owner have.

Along with the so called terms and conditions of the trust (the guaranteed 100 million amongst other things) the EPL will be introducing tougher "suitability" tests. Meaning the likes of Thaksin Shinawatra probably won't be able to take over an EPL club in the future. Combined with claimed trust requirements in accordance with a sale this should make people less worried about who could come in.

What? You take Scudamore seriously?

The guy who let Mascherano and Tevez in...and Gaydamak...and Shinawatra?

I believe he may take the goverments interest more seriously.

I think the government will take it seriously once they have finished doing their expenses.

Bit of a blow that moat-cleaning is not tax deductible...

What do you think about these so called terms and conditions Philipl mentioned on a previous page without actually proving it? I.e the suggestion that the trust terms and conditions mean someone has to guarantee a 100 million investment to the club.

Maybe Ewood and Brockhall are somehow protected but I don't think there are all sorts of different terms. Just comes down basically to what the Walkers want so simple as that.

I don't believe the 'guaranteed investment' aspect at all. How could there be a figure like that in a will drawn up nearly a decade ago?

And, yes, it's down to what the Trustees want for the club.

I don't see anything happening in a hurry.

Once again, I didn't say guarranteed investment.

I did say an investor is probably going to have to have pockets that size to be sure to get the Trustees off the hook Jack left them on.

Fortunately - because of the cock-ups elsewhere - Rovers probably need only a little extra investment to stay in the Premier League.

The collapse of Newcastle United, Middlesbrough and Portsmouth means that it now takes a massive series of mistakes to drop out of the top flight now or in the near future.

That should attract a buyer in some ways as you could be pretty safe to plan for being a Premier Leaggue outfit for the next three to ofur years.

But Rovers is still a club for an enthusiast rather than anyone wishing to make a profit.

Newcastle and Portsmouth (surprisingly Portsmouth's owners turned down a offer as they din't think it was right for the club) are clearly available but the other clearly isn't. That's a big mistake along with not sacking their manager. Talk about taking a club backwards.

It was a big mistake for BRFC to wait until 2007 before making any relevant appointments towards finalising a sale. (i.e Rothschild)

I believe you will find that Rothschilds have been engaged by the Walker family since the 1980s.

Read it and it clearly states that the club had just appointed a corporate advisor (Rothschilds) in relation to finding new buyers. How much clearer do you want?

Copying from your link Vinjay:

Williams recently told the Telegraph: "I don't want to set any hares running but, clearly, we are alive to the situation.

"Premier League football clubs are rare - there are only 20 of them - and only a limited number are available.

"Blackburn Rovers would be available if the right quality of owner, in terms of financial clout and plans for the club, were to step forward.

"We have had a number of expressions of interest, both from home and abroad, and there have been preliminary meetings.

"But, ultimately, that decision will come down to the trustees, who are the shareholders."

With the new TV deal about to kick in this summer, Rovers have never been in a stronger position to attract outside investment because the new deal will effectively enable them to become financially self-sufficient.

However, if the club wants to move to the next level, which means regularly finishing in the top six in the Premiership, and maybe even challenging the top four, it's imperative they attract new investment as that would enable manager Mark Hughes to be more competitive in the transfer market.

"Because of the new television deal, we now have a stable business going forward so I don't think there's any pressure on the existing owners to sell the club," said Williams.

"But the only thing constant is change so you've got to keep moving and try and move to the next level if you can.

"The problem is the next level for us is regularly finishing in the top six, and ultimately the top four, so we are looking for the next Roman Abramovich, which is a very difficult task."

I doubt John Williams would say anything much different today. I put one sentence and one phrase in bold.
