ni_rover Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Where have you been? Until the last minute they never really did! Ive been living in Northern Ireland for 25 years believe it or not! Where have you been? We had the chance to sell him and we didn't. What use was he from that? All we have done there is lost money!

gumboots Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Ive been living in Northern Ireland for 25 years believe it or not! Where have you been? We had the chance to sell him and we didn't. What use was he from that? All we have done there is lost money! We had the chance to sell him but not for the cash that would have got us a suitable replacement, at least not in time to get one. We didn't know he wouldn't play for most of the rest of the season. Allardyce and the club took an informed risk. Hindsight is wonderful. This is old ground that has been gone over so many times - you believe what you want. I happen to think that if the management had felt that selling Santa Cruz for what was on offer was best for the club, they'd have done it. they didn't, therefore they didn't think it was and since it's their job to make these decisions, I value their opinion on the matter, being in possession of all the facts about the offer and timing of it, more than I value that of anyone else, myself included.
b12_simon Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 It's a win-win situation for Rovers providing he remains fit for the new season ahead. If he remains fit and doesn't turn back into the sulky lump of @#/? he was at Bayern when he didn't get a move. We missed the boat of getting a bundle of cash from City in January but that doesn't mean we shouldn't get rid for less. I wouldn't rule City out. They'll give us a laugh, chading every striker in Europe and end up settling for Roque.

67splitscreen Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 If we had excepted City's offer and history had run it's course, I wonder if Hughes would have been sacked.
Amo Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 In the middle of a relegation dogfight, would it have been healthy for morale to sell our best striker? It would have signalled our descent into the Championship.
Majiball Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 In the middle of a relegation dogfight, would it have been healthy for morale to sell our best striker? It would have signalled our descent into the Championship. Of course it would, but they are all armed with hindsight watch out!!!
andyroversmad Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Is Roque playing for Paraguay on Saturday night ?
kandi Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Is Roque playing for Paraguay on Saturday night ? Very unlikely,he isn`t fully fit yet.Maybe on Wednesday..
The Rover of Finland Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 After missed half of season it shouldn´t be about few days..
philipl Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 After missed half of season it shouldn´t be about few days.. It was reported two weeks ago that the second Paraguay game was the target for his return. The significance of the second game is Paraguay probably can guarrantee at least coming 5th by winning it and thereby be virtually assured of qualification for South Africa.
jodrell Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 It looks like a long annoying summer for R S C. N.O.W saying Spuds offering 10M for him.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 £10m? Take it, he doesn't get a penny of it. I just want shut at this point, no one is going to pay £20m for him now.
vyeo Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 £10m? Take it, he doesn't get a penny of it. I just want shut at this point, no one is going to pay £20m for him now. I'll be happy with 10m plus Bentley! Or 15m cash, since roque will not get any of that too.
roversmad95 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 dont think bentley would come back and do we really want him? if spuds up it to 15 million then for me he should go.... BS wants chimbonda so maybe 12 million + chimbonda and they can have santa cruz.... i think i would prefer 8 million + bent.....
67splitscreen Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Odds may have gone up on RSC playing on Wednesday night as Paraguay where beat 0-2 by Chile
Majiball Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Odds may have gone up on RSC playing on Wednesday night as Paraguay where beat 0-2 by Chile Hopefully he plays scores a hat-trick and convinces the city money men he's a 20M player.
67splitscreen Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Hopefully he plays scores a hat-trick and convinces the city money men he's a 20M player. That amount would be nice, no harm in dreaming.
67splitscreen Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Done deal according to a City Forum Wonder if thats pricked nicos ears up, bet the phone lines are burning rite now.
gazsimm Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Done deal according to a City Forum 12 million the rumour going round here in manchester. I won't believe it till it happens though, i think city might be very close in getting Tevez though!!
nicko Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Wonder if thats pricked nicos ears up, bet the phone lines are burning rite now. Rovers won't accept £12 million...not happening.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 8, 2009 Author Posted June 8, 2009 Rovers won't accept £12 million...not happening. I can understand why, when you factor in how much Sam will likely get to spend from the sale (if its £12 million), its only really going to pay for a new striker and not much else.
Hughesy Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Rovers won't accept £12 million...not happening. What will make it happen?? Only £20m?
nicko Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 What will make it happen?? Only £20m? No point in selling him for a low price. You would be as well keeping him. £20 million was his value...no need to drop it.
