dave birch Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Agree Bobby, but not about the goal scoring. It's difficult to see what he has to offer City other than an injury plagued career. having said that, Hughes did get the best out of him, but it's hard to see that he's going to have the same impact as he's a known quantity now.

I agree Dave, RSC was a gamble of a signing when we signed him for £3m or so, we had a great season out of him, his first good season for a good while. I'm not sure anyone will get that out of him again and he's not going to be the first name on the team sheet at City. However, I do trust Sam in finding a decent goalscorer for next season, we'll not find another RSC but look what he did with the likes of Davies.
Ricky Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 So either Nicko's right and RSC isn't City's main target as they want Forlan, or every other newspaper that has been printed today is right in saying that RSC is signing this week. Wonder who's got it right?
Mc Love Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Mirror is saying Barca are after Robinho, so maybe RSC is off to Citeh?
dave birch Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Not sure I really care Ricky. RSC didn't do much for us last season, did he?
unluckymorton Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Not sure I really care Ricky. RSC didn't do much for us last season, did he? He let us down badly after the transfer window closed. He had no intention of helping us out of trouble. When he wasn't there on the last game of the season top thank the fans for the support I made my mind up then that I don't care he's leaving, he showed his true colours. £15 - £18m? I'd rather have that any day. Get a decent striker to replace him and get Benni fit and we'll be o.k up front.
Ricky Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Dave, if he stays and gets his head from out of his ar$e then I'm happy. If he goes for a massive fee then I'm also happy. As far as I can tell we're in a win win situation at the moment. We should really push for the highest possible fee.
alexanders Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Get a decent striker to replace him and get Benni fit and we'll be o.k up front. Why would you replace a class striker with a decent one?
modes98 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 So either Nicko's right and RSC isn't City's main target as they want Forlan, or every other newspaper that has been printed today is right in saying that RSC is signing this week. Wonder who's got it right? That's a bit harsh as Nicko hasn't been around the last few days to update us from his perspective. Things change quickly in football, especially with deadlines being set by clubs. Sooner this is wrapped up and the cash is in our account the better.
Ricky Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Nowt harsh about it Modes. Just asking a question as to which one is right. One said it's not going to be a quick deal as they want someone else and another says it's going to be wrapped up in the next day or so. Two very differing viewpoints. One's right and ones wrong. At this stage we don't know who's right and who's wrong.
Hughesy Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I will be very sad to see Santa go. Will we ever see as good a striker again playing for the Rovers? I doubt it. Dont be so depressing - why wont we? We signed him for £3.5m, we could do that again with others. Lets just be patient and see where Sam takes us. If we can get £17m or so out of them, then its a good deal, considering his heart is no longer at ewood.
modes98 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Let's hope the quickly senario is right. Sooner we can get our main striker target in the better. £16.5m is an amazing figure, if it is correct.
Hughesy Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 £17m according to the mirror - although not a Nicko story, it says complete within the next 24 hours (i.e. before Hughes goes on holiday)
thenodrog Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 There's a sad and even criminal waste of talent behind this issue. I'm not talking players either. Mark Hughes unearthed some superb players on the cheap and then developed em into very valuable and very saleable assets. I doubt he'll ever need to utilise this talent again but we certainly need someone to emulate them. He was undeniably the Goose that laid the golden egg for poorly financed club like us. I've said on here before that we'll miss Hughes the scout more than Hughes the manager. Sam has replaced the manager but it remains to be seen whether he can do a similar job on the scouting front. SA and JW need to get their thinking caps on!
joey_big_nose Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I will be very sad to see Santa go. Will we ever see as good a striker again playing for the Rovers? I doubt it. Well, we have had two better ones imo in the last 15 years - Bellamy and Shearer. Both could win games almost on their own which is something Cruz never really managed to do. I would back Sam to find someone as good. One of the few people around who is as good as Hughes in the budget transfer market.

One of the few people around who is as good as Hughes in the budget transfer market. Shearer without question was a better player, there weren't many better than him in the world at his peak. Bellamy i'd say is on the same level as Santa Cruz when you factor Roque's all round game (great in the air, strong, superb movement, ability to shoot with either foot, some decent pace). On the budget thing if we are talking about Sam at his Bolton days then yes he knows how to spend money wisely, Sam at his newcastle days however(with a bit more cash) bought some donkey's. I'm hoping that Sam learnt his lesson at Newcastle and is going back to being more prudent when it comes to signings. So far i'd say he has as we have been linked to some very interesting signings, but then we've been linked to that donkey Chimbonda...
67splitscreen Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 RSC might as well leave his boots at Ewood, By the time the deals done we'll playing City anyway.
LeChuck Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Will we ever see as good a striker again playing for the Rovers? I doubt it. Just buy Marc Janko as a replacement and we'll have a better one. Easy. There must be a fair amount of truth in these press stories, we're usually quite quick to come out and dismiss stories if they're not true. Sam has been very vocal about Roque in the past too but now seems completely silent.

gumboots Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Give me Dzeko! when I find that oilwell in my back garden I might. Or even just a goldmine

Both could win games almost on their own which is something Cruz never really managed to do. If I had a choice between the Bellamy that played for Rovers and Roque, it would be Bellamy by a mile. They were different kind of players, but Bellamy could win a game on his own and we, as a team, looked infinitely more threatening when he was playing.
