LeChuck Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Every team needs a good target man. Look at the two teams closest to breaking into the top four, Everton and Villa. Both build their attacks round strong but technically sound target men. A fit Roque is better than anything either of those two can offer. If Hughes gets a season out of him like he did here then he'll be a brilliant signing for them.

Ricky Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 lechuck.... Is that everton's big target man tim cahill lol. Pretty sure they haven't got anyone in their ranks who you could call a big target man. Agree it's the way villa play but it's certainly not the way everton play.
waynerovers Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 sky sports news just confirmed rovers and city have agreed terms on an 18 million deal.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Bloody hope it is true as i said in the transfer topic. But when we agreed a fee for Derbs, it popped up on the Official site really quickly. Their has been no confirmation on the official site. Also, i thought Mark Hughes went on holiday this morning?

rovers1995 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 On the one hand: hope its true On the other: hope we have two strikers close to signing because we are left with roberts and mccarthy. Scary
gumboots Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 On the one hand: hope its true On the other: hope we have two strikers close to signing because we are left with roberts and mccarthy. Scary I'd worry if that were the case in a month or so's time but not at this stage. for us to be doing the deals I think we must be a fair way along with finding and sorting our tagets in these areas.

Not necessarily Gumboots. It's probably more to do with the £18m being there now - and it might not be in two weeks time.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 I hope its true and i pray that the board give Sam as much of the fee to spend as they can. Our side has been a slow but steady decline (especially in midfield) and this is a great opportunity to rebuild.

Yes, there's that too but our reason or one of them for not selling in Jan was that we had no time to sort a replacement and so presumably knowing we'd need one we've been looking. Surely we wouldn't ship out 2 and not have at least one well on his way, even if not signed up.

Surely we wouldn't ship out 2 and not have at least one well on his way, even if not signed up. We'll get strikers in, no doubt about that. Mixed feelings as usual when I see top quality players leaving for pastures new, especially when it's to MC and Hughes [who's gone down immeasurably in my estimation since he left rovers]. It's the right thing to do this time though, simply because we are so barren in other key areas. Rocky's behaviour has been pretty poor through all this as well.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I'm fairly sure we are going to put an offer in for Janko if Cruz completes his move... The story: http://msnsport.skysports.com/story/0,1952...5389342,00.html
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Now for the important part, the medical. The question now is. How much of Derbs and Cruz's fee will the board hand over to Sam. I'm hoping they give him back something like £14 million. Would also be a good idea to sort out Gally, Judge and Treacy's future...
Blue n White Rover Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 What has happened to the £4million that was put aside for Villanueva? Is that being spent on the Givet deal? We need to spend the money wisely or else it would be pointless selling Roque. I'm gutted that he's leaving us, a cracking player. Now watch us get linked to every donkey that can head a ball and is over 6ft!
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Glad this is finally coming to a conclusion with a good profit for Rovers,I just hope Sam gets most of the money....with the Derbyshire coin he should have a fair warchest to strengthen this side. ATTACKING MIDFIELDER PLEASE!!!!!
Amo Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I do so hope this saga is at its conclusion. Not only has it dragged on far too long, but we're getting a great deal for a striker with only one proven season and a history of injuries.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Sling your hook Crocky. You wont be missed by this Rover.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 ATTACKING MIDFIELDER PLEASE!!!!! Shopping List / Some players to consider: Marc Janko (6 million?) Renato Civelli (free) Modeste M'bami (free) Michael Bradley (5 million?) Franco Di Santo (loan) Shikabala (4 million?) Ahmed Al-Muhammadi (??)

If Hughes gets a season out of him like he did here then he'll be a brilliant signing for them. Rubbish. Think Tevez is maybe a bit overrated but RSC and Eto'o don't even fit in the same sentence. RSC has had one season his entire career (remember he's in his late twenties) where he's scored more than 5 league goals. That says it all.
broadsword Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I'm normally a bit blue when a decent player leaves, but happy to make an exception in this case. Don't hang about Crcoky, get pen to paper.

Franco Di Santo (loan) Shikabala (4 million?) Ahmed Al-Muhammadi (??) All decent players but none of them are proven, BUT......long gone are the days when we could buy such players.....RSC for example! ##Man City do not read past this point.## 18M?HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA snap their hand off......NOW!
