den Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I think it is a down payment plus extras close to a total of £18 million. Rovers wanted £15 million 'clear' from the sale which suggests Roque will be making up to £3 million for going... So, if true, Rocky makes £3m for slagging our club off all season and agitating for a move. No wonder fans get fed up with the game.

I know where you are coming from...but the club agreed to a split of the profits with him when he signed a new deal in August 2008. Yes, it seems a bit odd. But you are still getting much more money than he was worth on the strength of his performances last season. It's how you spend it that matters. Not many clubs will now have this size of kitty.
MeanGreenMachine Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Have you ever seen Janko play? Do i need to? He is 25/26, never been prolific, struggles to get into the austrian team and has had a bad injury in recent times. He scored goals in a mickey mouse league for the beat team by miles in it. Waste of time.

Not many clubs will now have this size of kitty. Well some of it is going to the bank manager so it remains to be seen how much is handed to Sam. Not as much as some of us would imagine, I bet. Of course it's a great deal for the club, - it still rankles that a player can get himself rewarded to the tune of three million pounds though. All that after continually telling the press that we're not big enough, or ambitious enough, for him.
Amo Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Who wants to bet the majority of the cash is used for miscellaneous debts, and Sam is given about 30% to juggle with?
nicko Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Who wants to bet the majority of the cash is used for miscellaneous debts, and Sam is given about 30% to juggle with? I think - and hope - you will be pleasantly surprised by the amount available. Derbyshire going makes the total even better. It could be a major plus if it is spent wisely.

Billy Castell Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Well if this deal comes off, we need another striker, especially if Derbyshire is going. And I don't mean crap like Alan Smith, but quality and/or potential.
GiddyGoat Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Given RSC's injuries I find it odd that Sparky is still prepared to pay as much as £18m. I wonder if he has negotiated a slice of Roque's slice

It could be a major plus if it is spent wisely. Expecting nothing less than a striker in the £6m-£8m bracket (and considered a good deal, unlike some of the telephone numbers being spread around by the big clubs), and a couple of £4m ish midfielders who have never been seen in a Newcastle United shirt.

I would say yeah for you to be disgusted at paying 6million(which would be a nice deal btw) I would hope you would have seen the boy play. Age is perfect for a seasoned striker. Watched him for Austria twice and looks there best player. Mickey mouse league so it isn't as good as the premiership what league is the Seria A or La Liga how much do you think he would cost from a team from there, scoring 30+ a season. Be realistic. IMO he looks better than Crouch, cheaper and younger.
rebelmswar Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Comes up to 9 million a dodgy knee. Not a bad turn there or was it a buy one get one free special?
Fife Rover Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 why all the doom and gloom from some?? are you forgetting that we didnt need roque for the last half/quarter of the season? That's not quite true.....we needed him; we just didn't have him. Big difference!
Amo Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 That's not quite true.....we needed him; we just didn't have him. Big difference! Technically we didn't need Roque because we survived without his services.
bazza Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Some people really hold grudges against some of our former players, don't they? I'd like to thank Roque for two things 1) That first season where he showed us a Rovers player who oozed class and scored many wonderful goals. 2) Thank you so much for signing that new four year deal last August. Without it we would not have received so much money for your transfer. Good luck Roque. All the best. But hope you have poor games against us.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Have you ever seen Janko play? Personally, i have seen him play 3 times. He shows tremendous talent at present and has the age to progress more. Have just been chatting to somebody about the Roque situation who told me he was as suprised as most about the Roque Man City revelation. He hadn't heard anything. The club have not confirmed anything either, so wouldn't be suprised if this turns into another 'Sky Sources Understand' escapade... Going on what Nicko has just said. It's quite possible Sam will spend any money we get from the Roque sale on midfield and play a 4-5-1 formation. In my opinion, this would be a mistake. We need at least 2 perminant striker signings if we sell bother Roque and Derbs, that includes Di Santo in my opinion...

I do not know about other people but my only angst about this whole ordeal was his treatment to the club in the press. If he had of been bought by Man City and went, I would applaud him and have fond memories of his all too brief spell at the chapel of Ewood. I, like many other Rovers fans, have seen their favorite players leave time and again and I think as a whole we do rather well with the constant leaving of quality players and the taking in of dubious players that we then turn into quality again. While Santa Cruz was here, during his first season, I would have gladly lay down on fire for him to walk across and give him my last tenner if he felt like a drink. BUT when a player treats his bread and butter like a used whore that can be cast off when he finds a nice girl that he thinks he can settle down with, he looses all my respect and support.

It's a good price and gives Sam some money to build with, I just hope he can pick some gems. In my opinion this is a really important close season, we need a number of players in key positions and the fact that we want to finish above that team from Yorkshire ......... no pressure then :-) Come on Sam lets prove any doubters wrong and have a top season at a full Ewood !!

Majiball Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 lechuck.... Is that everton's big target man tim cahill lol. Pretty sure they haven't got anyone in their ranks who you could call a big target man. Agree it's the way villa play but it's certainly not the way everton play. They had Jo last year and Moyes wanted Di Santo. Risky decision by Hughes if he signs. If he comes in and flops or spends most of the time on the treatment table then its going to look bad both to the owners and the fans. If he keeps fit and they strengthen in other areas then he could score the goals that could get them a Europa League place. If i was a betting man i reckon Hughes will be gone by January. I have a feeling RSC will be fine now, Roden and co did it before they may well do it again. I think City will be very strong next year. On RSC 18M is fantastic news, now the real fun can begin, and perhaps now we can get linked with something inspiring. With derb's as well, and I assume we have a few pennies left from the summer fund?? Right back Striker - proven Attacking Midfielder That would do me fine this year, 3 Quality youngish signings.
