[Archived] Roque Santa Cruz Thread

Recommended Posts

If Santa Cruz doesn't get slagged off for wanting to leave after just signing a new deal, it's probably because the fans are just resigned to it now.

Sounds as though many fans are becoming exactly that Bryan. Acceptance of mediocrity is becoming the norm.

They take their lead from the board, who would like us to be the Crewe Alexandra of the Premiership.

If you have low expectations, you can never be disappointed!

I was not referring to any racial problems.

I was just pointing out the double standard.

Apologies, it initially seemed that way.

Santa: Burn in hell you stupid piece of s%%%

**** football.

Calm down

We don't know how credible the source of this story is. From what i gather this has come from an interview with a Paraguayan radio station, look at the Villanueva example recently when the media chose to print certain parts of an interview and added some spin.

If its true that Roque has come out with this then you can vent your reaction as you see fit, until then perhaps you should hold back a little until the truth comes out.

If anyone deserves a load of anger vented towards them its Hughes, constantly being linked with our players despite us previously telling him to back the f**k off. I have no respect for him anymore, his behaviour since he has joined City hasn't been anywhere near professional.

I think it's because most of us can understand why. If I was one of the best strikers in the league and no emotional attachment to Rovers I'd want to be going somewhere more ambitious as well.

It will be a huge test for Ince should Roque leave. He had a valid excuse for not replacing Bentley in that he'd just arrived in the job and was short on time in finding a replacement. No such excuses can exist for Santa Cruz though and, put bluntly, if he can't adequately replace him then he's not the right man Rovers.

oh come on. It's on BBC and other sites, it's a direct quote, it happens every other day - the man sees us like a rug like Bentley and Hughes did, he's gonna whipe hsi feet with us, take City's paycheck and leave us for dead.

there is no going back here, everything is just bull&&&t. why do we continue trying.

lol. Bentley, Hughes, deja-vu-anyone? When these reports came out everyone tried finding how the "sources were questionable" , they "spin their words" etc. - but when it happens so often, there's no way there isn't something in it.

First opportunity and he'll be gone, 100% guaranteed.

It's an interview conducted in a foriegn language, and translated by the media.

The only line in there that is causing problems is

"I will keep on doing what I do at Blackburn but if the coach of Manchester City is interested in me, I would like to join Robinho in that team. He is a wonderful player and I would like to play next to him"

Now could that not also have been a response to "If Man City bought you, how would you feel about playing alongside a great such as Robinho".

Try to answer that question, in "translated English" without being flat out rude (which we know Roque wouldn't do) and without it being possible to squirm it into a "RSC in come and get me City shocker" article if you wanted to. If anything, it's simply an answer that is respectful to Robinho, and explains how he is happy in his role here.

If these comments by Cruz are true then yet again its another big kick in the old privates for Rovers fans everywhere. We just get the man to sign a new improved contract and low and behold!

I can see Mr E's anger at this.....the signing of contracts IS all p1ss 'n' wind by these players, hyperbole and false. They are ALL mercenaries only interested in the coin they can make, the feelings of the fans who (stupidly) chant their names in god like fashion count for nothing, once again Rovers fans are left feeling like suckers.

Lets wait and see what the official reaction to this is but Yet again we become the easy target for the media shyte stirrers.....same old <_<

Either through blind faith, naivete, panic or whatever the point that's being missed is that this is the SECOND similar article from RSC in a week.

So much for being a model pro, hey?

Personally, I just think he's keeping the fires burning on every option available to him - all this has come from Hughes supposedly going to see the money men to give them his shopping list. The interviewer probably asked him a direct question and he's responded tactfully, respectfully and certainly in no way that suggests he pining for a move.

Given what the A-rabs will probably be like though, if they really do have the minerals they reckon they have, I can imagine them laughing at Hughes and saying 'we've never heard of this Roque', we want Kaka, Messi, et all.

Think a bit of balance is in order though; we're nuts if we think Roque will steadfastly commit to Rover for ever, and equally, that by keeping any fires burning it will detract from his work here. Too many folk look at these things in black and white when in effect they're many shades of grey, subjective and extremely circumstantial.

On another RSC point (to keep morale up) when he was sat in crowd at Northwich watching Rovers reserves (Julio was supposedly starting) he was sat with a lady twice his age & half his height. Bear in mind RSC is rumoured to be a bit dishy, apparently was voted the sexiest footballer at WC 2006? Overheard comment "Is that Roque Santa Cruz? Crikey, I thought he'd have a better wife - she doesn't look up to much". I didn't care to point out it was his mother......

The first article being the "Maybe I won't be able to fulfill my Champions league ambitions here".

Again though - ask a question for a purpose and it's an easy answer to get - I don't think as a supporter i'll get to watch my side in a Champions league final - I'd have to support another team to that.

Doesn't mean i'm going to change alliegances this year.

Oh, and in response to the "wife" thing. Brilliant.

I'm sorry SG, but that's just not true. It's been documented on here that Bentley would have earned more staying at Rovers, he obviously moved to WHL thinking trophies/a top four challenge were more likely.

If you were a top footballer you'd want to be in with a chance of winning things, wouldn't you? Even at junior/amateur level the best players want to play for the teams capable of winning things, or at least with the ambition to. Of course it's easier for fans to think it's all about the money, but that simply isn't the case with every player.

Facts are that EVERY club in the world is a selling club now that Man City are owned by the Arabs.

Will Milan resist a £70 million pound bid for Kaka?

£120 million pound bid for Ronaldo?

Similarly if we get a bid of over £20 million for a 27 year old player we will sell, that is being realistic. Arsenal are struggling to hold on their top players so what chance to we have?

I am happy to see us purchasing top young talent as this is the route to success in the current market.

Oh no! You didn't fall for that "if I was money orientated I'd have stayed where I was" chestnut did you? It's about line 3 on the crib card agents give to players.

Next we'll be thinking Bentley's doing it pro bono......

'documented on here' isn't exactly any credence is it? I've documented on here many times Reid is pants, but it doesn't make it true - or the managers not pick him! Next you'll be believing Nicko 100%....

On another note, John Williams has been quoted/documented as saying "the best players go to the clubs that pay the best wages", so where does that stand on the Bentley/Spurs thing? I didn't agree with that comment at the time, much less these days. I don't see a deluge of even good players going to Newcastle, who have always been one of the best payers (pro rata) in the Prem (as Rovers & Pompey have too). BTW that's based on the wage bill/no of players, not necessarily the highest wage paid.
