Eddie Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Funny old world though; we sign a player for 3.5 million or so and a year and a bit later are talking about selling him for 20 million plus and the board goes on suicide watch.

Guest Kamy100 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Today's Lancashire Telegraph is carrying a story about Roque slamming speculation about him wanting to leave Rovers. The company which looks after Roque's affairs slams the recent speculation and say that he is focused on doing well for Rovers and he is committed to the club for the foreseeable future. It is clear that there are sections within the media that have a vandetta against the club and appears the management team, time and again stories have come out which have the sole aim of unsettling the club, players and fans.
Guest Kamy100 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Not fake but more of a very poor translation and taken completely out of context.
JAL Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Not fake but more of a very poor translation and taken completely out of context. Kamy rumour is this was all set up in the summer now we the fans hear these so called public statements to set the ball rolling in the supporters heads of the impending outcome. This quote then denial of the quote then things settle down for a period then it raises again and then hes gone are we the stupid ones.

This quote then denial of the quote then things settle down for a period then it raises again and then hes gone are we the stupid ones. eh? That is a relief but it puts the ball well and truly in the Paul Agnew court. A good PR company has the ability to build relationships and networks which effectively stops these sorts of things from happening in the first place. I would strongly urge Rovers to spend some serious money and engage a top media relations organisation because the club's current media profile is costing it: - the clubs' fans are continually being discouraged and undermined and this must be costing the club in gate receipts - the public image of a little backwards backwater that can be pushed around must be costing the club potential corporate revenue - and the image must have contributed to the difficulty in selling the club or bringing in new money as overseas people only see the outwards image and not the inner reality. If you want to see good PR at work, look at how absolute stinker stories for West Ham- the arbitration judgement and the Icelandic financial crisis- are being worked around so West Ham don't look bad/ are the innocent victim. Also look how the enormous financial trouble Liverpool and Man U are in off the pitch is being all but ignored. Nobody said "ah but" to David Gill last week when he said Man U comfortably paid £42m interest from current revenue (ah but you only paid part of the actual interest bill- you borrowed more to cover the part you didn't pay). If those things were happening to Rovers, the media would be camped at Ewood and Brockhall screaming "crisis club".
Hughesy Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 The best thing for us to do is to go on a good run, and come january still be around the top 6 clubs, then the speculation should die a little. Dont forget its obvious since Ince came in, that the Media really do have it in for us. Maybe Nicko could shed some light on this story?
CrazyIvan Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I wonder if someone in the press has a bet on Rovers to go down this season... (Kidding before anyone jumps on it...)
brightonrover Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I'm with PhilipL on this, it's just another in a very long line of PR cock-ups handled badly by Paul Agnew's company. It really is time that the club employed a much more professional PR team at a time when the Premiership is the highest profile football league in the world.
Bennisfromheaven Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 If those things were happening to Rovers, the media would be camped at Ewood and Brockhall screaming "crisis club". I dont think they'd be bothered camping out, it just seems that the media is not too interested in us at all! The Santa Cruz issue & Villanuvue one before it stinks of other clubs trying to unsettle the club & its players! This could be for a number of reasons i.e. if our club is unsettled results will suffer, trying to sign our players & jealousy!! We are an easy target now & the club must stop this! There has to be someone who is not doing there job properly! With past managers there was always a theme that coincided with the boss. With souness we were linked to every player out there & there was an opinion that the players could not cross the manager. Under Hughes nothing got out of the club, we had the bully boy tag, which i think Mark Hughes liked as it unsettled teams that played us as they expected a rough time Some good press goes a long way, hopefully it will happen over time but we are being hurt by the stories doing the rounds!
philipl Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I am afraid they'd be all too interested in us if we had severe problems.
CrazyIvan Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...y_link_stories/ "I don’t think there is anything at all in these comments. Roque would not be so stupid as to say things like this, even if it was to a small radio station in Paraguay." That sounds like a clear statement that Roque didn't speak to a radio station in Paraguay especially as they say he is actually here trying to get fit for Saturday! "We believe a lot of things written are rubbish." So do I!

nicko Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Dont forget its obvious since Ince came in, that the Media really do have it in for us. Maybe Nicko could shed some light on this story? I don't think that is the case. Players coming, players going, players saying things they shouldn't happen all of the time - and everywhere. The Roque quotes yesterday originated from South America and were put round by foreign agencies, picked up over here very quickly and put in the papers. I left it because I thought it was a bit suspicious and frankly I don't think that Man City will go for Roque when they are supposed to have all of the money available to buy the best in the world. To be fair to Roque, he is good..but not that good. I wouldn't get too paranoid about an anti-Rovers thing as City have been linked with just about every top striker going...from Torres to Villa. That doesn't make the press anti-Liverpool or anti-Valencia. It just happens. The bottom line is Roque is under contract and if anybody wants to buy him they will have to pay a lot. An awful lot can happen between now and January.
CrazyIvan Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Do you want to read the article again? Don't worry, I've been picked up for misreading things in the past. The article says he is missing the Perugame and is trying to be fit for Saturday. Previously it has been reported he has not been required to go to Paraguay this time around. Is that better?
robborover Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Funny old world though; we sign a player for 3.5 million or so and a year and a bit later are talking about selling him for 20 million plus and the board goes on suicide watch. I agree. Are we supposed to hope he breaks his leg and misses the rest of the season, just so he might stay with us and Man City get bored? If he wants to move then get the £20 million and move on. That's football for us.
Hughesy Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I like that article - stick it City! Roque is staying. To be fair to the guy, he seemed very genuine in the summer, said he wouldnt be leaving and signed a new deal. Since then we have brought his brother in too. Im sure if anyone has there feet firmly on the ground, its him - he was at Bayern for about 7 years so he isnt daft. He's staying!!

I just think end of December is a lot of weeks and a lot of games away and all sorts of things could happen between now and then so I can't get too worried. I'm not going to go round with a grin on my face saying "He's staying" but doom and gloom can wait for a while too.

But if the Roque statement has a degree of accuracy and the club know hes heading out of the club, HOW could the club retain its credibility by denying there is any truth in the story whatsoever when the end result is hes off.
CrazyIvan Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 But if the Roque statement has a degree of accuracy and the club know hes heading out of the club, HOW could the club retain its credibility by denying there is any truth in the story whatsoever when the end result is hes off. Huh?
gumboots Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Huh? I agree. I had to read that several times but what he's saying is we can't come out and deny things if they are actually going to happen. However, we haven't needed to - his agent and presumably, by association, Roque himself, have done so.
Billy Castell Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 It's from JAL, so even if the club did bother to deny the story, JAL would use some other weird logic to hit the club and Ince, and generally whinge and criticise.
Doaksie Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Not fake but more of a very poor translation and taken completely out of context. Seems to be the case, according to this guy anyway on the LET's comment section: Lars of Denmark, says... 11:22am Wed 15 Oct 08 On another website the correct interview was quoted: "Roque was quoted out of context. I heard the interview, and it was somthing like this. Interviewer: So, Roque, we understand that M.City is after you Roque ®: Manchester City is a team that has a very important financial support that is getting prepared for winning the title, and I understand they have many players on their "wanted" list, and is not just my name that is mentioned, they have many options. (I): And how do you like the idea of going there? ®: I A M H A P P Y here at Blackburn, but if there is again an offert for me, it should be one that the club can't resist, otherwise I am staying. (I): Would you like to have Robinho as a partner? ®: Well, Robinho is a great player and anybody would feel honoured to play next to him. And that was it!...Roque is not planning on leaving any time soon." Thanks to diegovern for this transcript. Sounds very similar to the Villanueva article, straight from the big book of 'How to Make a Story Up'
