islander200 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Who was the lad at Reading im thinking about then?? FFS its been a long day!Doyle is a good player,if it was a while back maybe leroy lita?
T4E Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 No chance with Podolski. He won't want to join a club in the relegation zone, plus there'll be other clubs willing to offer more money. A relegation sell on clause would maybe do enough to put that to rest. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sam had a crack at it. Got nigh on no chance, but he may well try.
DeadlyDirk Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Who was the lad at Reading im thinking about then?? FFS its been a long day! Dave Kiston, currently banging in goals left right and center for Stoke, oh hang on a minute no he isn't! He hasn't scored yet, still a good way to break your transfer record!!
DeadlyDirk Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 We really need a 15 goal a season striker if RSC goes. A couple of the more realistic below. Ashton? (Injury prone & Not sure he would be allowed to go) As you say, far too injury prone and would be very pricey, I do like him though but now is not the time. Bellamy? (Over-priced & City interested) Agree Kevin Phillips? (Screw Big Clubs promotion bid and get a natural goal-scorer) He couldn't score many last time he was in the premiership, not much better than Fowler these days I doubt. Doyle (Again screw Readings chances, not so long ago talk of England call-up) Lol as already said he isn't english but anyway not a bad option if the price is right. Beattie (Just seems past it for me - but exactly the sort of player I can see Sam getting) I agree, probably past it a bit but could be worth a shout if he is around the £1-2 million mark, they probably want 10 for him! Heskey (Out of contract soon, unlikely to budge until he is free) Villa and Spurs are interested, no chance, plus a free transfer probably means a hefty wage! I think this is the key really, we can't let RSC go unless we have someone lined up to replace him, I'm not sure if there are many players out there who are proven in the premiership and can score goals. Sure he hasn't lit the premiership up this season but the whole team were playing badly and he suffered with injuries, now we are playing better again and he is getting back to full fitness, I have no doubt he can get 10 or so before the end of the season. Selling him now could be suicidal, I agree it could be good business and the players we bring in might help but it won't if the players are not out there. I'm not sure I would be willing to take the risk, personally I want him to stay unless we can DEFINITELY replace him with a goalscorer. No mistakes like we made with Bentley thank you very much. From what is about to replace him Podolski sounds like a good shout, a lot of money though for someone who may not have an instant impact. Worth enquiring about though, if he isn't interested then fair enough but you never know. Other than him I'm not sure what other proven talent there is, Doyle seems like a decent shout to be fair, perhaps Leroy Lita too even if we don't sell Roque, he's available for less than £1 million I hear so could be worth a gamble.
JAL Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Whoever the striker is that comes into replace Santa IF he goes, has to have the ability to be able to create his OWN chances because the rest of the support team are rubbish with the exception of an indifferent Pedersen.
Amo Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Get Carlos Vela in on-loan. The guy's a box of tricks and the type of player we really lack.
Hughesy Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 A good shout as a loan option, also a player that Matty Derbyshire could learn a thing or 10 from.
Majiball Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 In the town where I was born, Lived a man who sailed to sea, And he told us of his life, In the land of submarines, So we sailed on to the sun, Till we found the sea of green, And we lived beneath the waves, In our yellow submarine, We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. And our friends are all aboard, Many more of them live next door, And the band begins to play. (Trumpets play) We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. (Full speed ahead, Mr. Parker, full speed ahead! Full speed over here, sir! Action station! Action station! Aye, aye, sir, fire! Captin! Captin!) As we live a life of ease Every one of us is all we need,(is all we need) Sky of blue, and sea of green,(sky of blue and sea of green) in our yellow(in our yellow) submarine.(submarine) ( Hahaha! ) We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine. (fading) We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine, We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

accyrover Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Surely most professionals in the game will know that we are a much better, more established premier league club than those mentioned + 5 or 6 others. Yes we have just gone through a blip and had some rocky times, but so too have Tottenham/ Newcastle and they can still attract big/ good players. True, but Tottenham and Newcastle have more money and probably pay bigger wages. Accyrover
philipl Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 True, but Tottenham and Newcastle have more money and probably pay bigger wages. Accyrover Rovers' top end wage structure is higher than Spurs- Bentley took a pay cut compared with the offer Rovers made to go there. Newcastle are on very tight budgets these days. If reports are true, they have a budget only £2m more than our's this window.
roversnick Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 no bids http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ers/7816174.stm
LeftWinger Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Kevin Phillips? (Screw Big Clubs promotion bid and get a natural goal-scorer) It must have been a very long day! He's 35 and doing a job in the Championship - no way we should be signing another striker well past his best.
broadsword Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 We've had too m,any players in teh recent past who think they're too good for little old Blackburn Rovers. Yet when they move on to greener pastures, they land in a great big cow pat. You'd think they'd learn, oh no.
LeftWinger Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Yet when they move on to greener pastures, they land in a great big cow pat. You'd think they'd learn, oh no. I struggle to think of anyone in the last 15 years that has left us and gone on to be really succesful anywhere else. Though I'm sure someone is about to prove me wrong with a blindingly obvious one.
micktheblue Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Kevin Davis improved, but few of the others did
gazsimm Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I struggle to think of anyone in the last 15 years that has left us and gone on to be really succesful anywhere else. Though I'm sure someone is about to prove me wrong with a blindingly obvious one. the only one i can possibly think of is Henchoz to liverpool, he did not win the league there but i am sure he won the fa cup with them while he was there and his parternship with Hypia was very good. Sutton maybe!!
braddock Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 shearer was better at rovers duff was better at rovers bellamy was better sherwood was better david bentley is better colin hendry was better david dunn was and now is better again flitcroft was better sutton was better flowers was better stead was better wilcox was better ripley was better damien johnson was better tugay has had his best years here friedel was better bentley was better (all off the top of my head) in 5 years time we will be saying the same about santa cruz

Sutton maybe!! You could argue that Sutton was a disaster when he left Rovers. His spell at Chelsea straight from us was a nightmare. He did well in Scotland though - but that was tecnically when he left Chelsea. I'm thinking players who've done well immediately after leaving Rovers.
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 I'm thinking players who've done well immediately after leaving Rovers. Henning Berg? Won two league titles with United, One FA Cup and the Champions league.
LeftWinger Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Henning Berg? Won two league titles with United, One FA Cup and the Champions league. ...fair point. But he did end up coming back.
Pinch Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Henning Berg? Won two league titles with United, One FA Cup and the Champions league. Wee Barry Ferguson...better for Rangers.
