waggy Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 surely we do not want to keep rsc,he has gone on record saying he wants a move, lets tell citeh the price and then haggle our way to the best price.he has not tried in the last 4 games he has played for us,so why should we want to keep him,he reminds me soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much off benni, one good season then mediocre crap, sooner gone the better,as for beattie your having a giraffe

I actually rate Benni as a better player than Roque although obviously Roque is younger and had a better season last year so is worth more.

Think about the Gareth Barry and David Bentley contrasting situations. Both said they wanted to leave but with very different results.
RoyRover Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 That's the best idea. Our survival is more important than Santa Cruz getting his 'dream' move to City. As Sam said, why we should we sell our best player to a relegation rival? Imagine if he were to go there and score goals that took them clear of relegation, when he could be doing the same for us. If City want him that badly, they can wait until the summer for him.

Villa was THE exception though, can't remember many more can you, player power and all that, Villa have a very ballsey manager and chairman and can afford to make someone rot, most can't. I take Sturridge in part ex.
philipl Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Much as I would love to see it happen, Sturidge coming to Rovers is not a possibility.

AndyC Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Much as I would love to see it happen, Sturidge coming to Rovers is not a possibility. why is not a possibility? you can state its not probable, but you cant say its not possible with any certainty! Villa was THE exception though, can't remember many more can you, player power and all that, Villa have a very ballsey manager and chairman and can afford to make someone rot, most can't. I take Sturridge in part ex. what about downing? he's angled for a move for over a season too, but borough have held firm
Mr Creosote Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Much as I would love to see it happen, Sturidge coming to Rovers is not a possibility. If they want RSC so much they might not have a choice.
philipl Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 The latest is City are looking to highjack Arsenal's move for Arshavin. Mirror story.
thenodrog Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I take Sturridge in part ex. How come nobody ever mentioned Sturridge before Christmas?
T4E Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 How come nobody ever mentioned Sturridge before Christmas? He was being mentioned long before that. Nicko mentioned him being linked to Chelsea in the summer.
thenodrog Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 He was being mentioned long before that. Nicko mentioned him being linked to Chelsea in the summer. Surely if Chelsea had wanted him in the summer they'd have got him?
T4E Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I'd have to leave that for the source himself to explain, but I'm guessing Chelsea were looking to nick him for not much money and City didn't play ball.
thenodrog Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 but I'm guessing Chelsea were looking to nick him for not much money and City didn't play ball. Hmmm...... Harking back to last summer neither of those two reasons really rings true. Despite silly claims from Goode, Hughes and Shinawatra City were basically potless and Chelsea have not really 'nicked' anybody that they really want on the cheap since the Russian turned up.
philipl Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Sturridge, Ireland et al were being flogged behind Sparky's back by City until Sparky got wind of it and de-railed the whole process. The only one who had been advanced to the point at which the sale eventually had to go through was Corluka to Spurs. At the moment, Sturridge is without doubt one of the most exciting PL-developed young players around.
Amo Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 If Man.City want to play ball, a cash + Sturridge deal would be a great coup. He's got massive potential and we're bound to make a good profit on him down the line.
shadsworth cloud Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 If Man.City want to play ball, a cash + Sturridge deal would be a great coup. He's got massive potential and we're bound to make a good profit on him down the line. well, sturridge has been banging in goals in reserve/youth teams for a few years. But he is VERY one footed. To me that would seem to limit his potential somewhat. another young super-genius (so they say) at man city is michael johnson who has been injured mostly this season and is now being offered (according to the papers.....) as a makeweight in a deal to sign scott parker - god help them just be wary of youngsters with massive potential - a lot of them end up nowhere
John Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Hughes hinted that he is prepared to hear of other demands from his former employers. "There are factors and sometimes you have to think laterally to get these things done," he said. "There may be something they may bring up that we haven't thought of or we may bring something up. That could be what it takes.
thenodrog Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 just be wary of youngsters with massive potential - a lot of them end up nowhere Exactly. One costs 15m and the other becomes a free transfer. In a nutshell resurrecting them that has been Mark Hughes's forte and imo is our best way forward. Sell-on clauses would become a fact of life but so what?
philipl Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 West Ham have rejected a new City bid for Bellamy so I guess it's our turn to get a new bid for RSC...
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 Rovers braced for new Roque Santa Cruz bid
Bobby G Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 If what nicko says is right, then we are looking at 15 million net to us, and in my eyes considering some of the bids going around and some of the prices being mentioned by selling clubs, then Id say thats at least 3 million pounds too short in an ideal world.
modes98 Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Depends which Santa Cruz your talking about. If it's last season's then it's a fair way short of what we should be asking for, but if it's the Rocky in his years at munich and his start this season then I think we are getting a decent deal.
