[Archived] Roque Santa Cruz Thread

Recommended Posts

Big Sam said that anyone coming in right now would be a replacement for Derbyshire, not Santa Cruz. He's still determined to keep Roque and good on him - he made a big difference coming on against Bolton and reminded us why he's the sort of player we must have staying at the club if we are to avoid the drop.

At the start of the transfer window I'd have said sell the wantaway and use the money to strengthen. It's too late in this window to do that now so keep him at all costs & do the selling & rebuilding in the summer.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands that Sam is determined to keep hold of Roque and it will take of significantly more than £20 million for Rovers to even consider selling their prized assest.

Maybe Sam's sulk at not getting Bullard needs to be tempered with that fact that the board are supporting him on this issue.

Changed my viewpoint completely i think we should keep Roque. Last night he clearly changed the game when he came on after Roberts and Benni weren't firing. With the relegation battle so hard fought and no teams appear to be pulling away from the bottom this season I think we need to keep him.

Sam clearly has come out and said he can’t find any replacements as there is isn’t enough time left in the window. Last thing we need is to foolishly panic buy on players just before the window closes.

The idea of selling Roque to Spurs makes me sick as well, scumbag club.

hopefully it just pushes the price up.

the problem is that spurs like to do things at the last minute, so lets hope that the board remain strong and only sell if we get a silly offer and a replacement already signed.

Has anyone seen the picture on the official site of RSC and Benni celebrating the equaliser? He doesn't look like a player who doesn't want to be here. He was excellent yesterday. I think if we sell him now we'll go down, keep him and we'll stay up. It's that simple.

I thought exactly that when i saw that picture. Last night we saw a Santa Cruz we've not seen in a while. whether he was doing it in an effort to persuade City to bid more or whether he is really just returning to form and fitness i don't know but there was certainly more obvious effort from him. Selling him after that would be plain daft I reckon.

I really do think it would be daft to sell him in this window, whatever the bid.

He showed last night that he can change a game.

Keep him in this window, let him find some form and help keep us up, then grant him his wish in the summer if he still wants to move.

It's all very well and good Roberts being in a purple patch - but he's not in RSC's league. If we need to beat West Brom at home in the last game to stay up, I know who I'd rather have up front. If he still wants to leave in summer then fine, but make him earn his move first. Who knows, he might even decide he's happy here by then.

I guess we could have the same situation as Benni McCarthy here. McCarthy had a huge dip in form, after he was linked with Chelsea. However, he didn't get his move, but now helooks up for it and has been playing well in the last few games. Could be the case with Roque. He showed last night that he is class, he was the one that made the difference along with Tugay. If Roque doesn't get his move though, it could go two ways for Rovers, either he suffers a dip in form ala Benni, or, he could continue to play like he did yesterday.

Big few days coming up for Rovers.

I personally would be delighted if he stayed and left us in the Summer for £15million, simply because he has the ability to keep us in a game and gives us something not a lot of strikers can in that area.

Very good interview with Roque:

"I still Love Blackburn Rovers"

From reading that it looks like if he was to move its just City that interests him because of the Hughes factor. If City end their interest then i can see him being open to staying at the club until the summer. With his comments towards the club and the fans i can't see him being the type to sulk and kick up a fuss if he does end up staying.

I say we should keep him until the summer and see what happens then.

I actually don't think that is a good interview. The regular mentioning of "bigger" clubs, just isn't an issue I think we should want to have to deal with for the next 6 months, he needs to go.

Oh, DO shut up. It's a perfectly reasonable attitude. You really are making a bit of an idiot about this and other things at the moment. Look at the "striker" thread. Not ONE person- no doubt you will be the "person" to change that- has said anything but Roque first, and quite rightly so. He's head and shoulders above the rubbish we've been linked with- and Bent and Crouch both fall into that bracket. If it wasn't for the fact that England has bog all decent sstrikers, they'd NEVER have got a cap between them.

While I'm quite happy at the thought of Diouf (after Emerton anyone's an improvement on the right wing), the thought of Crouch or Bent makes me physically sick. Both over-hyped, both with very tiny amounts of talent, and both being talked about ONLY because they're English.

I can't believe this but i think that's about the third time in as many days I've agreed with you. when Nicko revealed Crouch as the target I couldn't believe the number of fans saying YES!!!!!!!!! He's average but english and therefore is overpriced and over rated. If we really have to sell Santa Cruz then he might be the best of a bad bunch but we don't actually have to so why weaken ourselves and boost a rival?

Is anybody keeping a tally of how many 'final offers' City have made for RSC? They are tring to undervalue Given too.

Stan Ternents classic description of the Burnley faithful springs to mind. 'Champagne taste with beer money' .

except this lot have the money to buy the champagne vineyards and bottling factory or whatever if they want it which makes them even more annoying to deal with.

He knew we weren't a 'big' club when he signed for us. So I don't know what he's complaining about. As for Man City, I find them and Man City personally insulting. How many times do they have to be told no. I hope we don't sell Roque because I think he can keep us up, but now I don't want to sell him just to sicken City. Now they have all this money, they will just keep throwing money at clubs, turning players heads and eventually making clubs sell. I really hope that the club dig their heels in and say no. If Santa Cruz loves the club as much as he says he does, then he can stay, help us survive and get his dream move in the summer and then spend next season lingering in mid table.

He's not even mentioned Spurs interest has he? As I can't see Hughes being in charge of City next season, if he stays until the end of the season, I think we've got half a chance of keeping him for next season too - as long as we show a bit of ambition and support Sam as much as we can. :)
