thenodrog Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 AWFUL LACK OF EFFORT AND COMMITMENT OFF HIM TONIGHT I disagree there Abbs. I thought he showed nothing out right but won most things against a damned big and strong defence when Allardyce brought him into the centre in the second half.
gumboots Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Just seen him on Socceram filming next week's crossbar challenge announce himself as Roque Satna Cruz! anyone know if any of our players did it?
jim mk2 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 1 SOCCER Blackburn Santa Cruz SANTA CRUZ DOUBT WITH KNEE PROBLEM Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz may miss Paraguay's World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Ecuador because of his knee injury. Santa Cruz, out of action for the last two weeks, may remain unavailable for the fixtures on March 28 in Montevideo and April 1 in Quito. ``I gave up training two weeks ago,'' he told the Puro Futbol radio show. ``I will not play this Saturday's match (against West Ham) either. ``It is a tendinitis I've been carrying for a long time and I already played some matches with pain.'' Paraguay and Blackburn's medical staff are due to discuss how to manage the injury. ``Not training does not help my physically,'' Santa Cruz added. ``It is a very difficult situation. We'll have a talk with the medical staff tomorrow.'' Paraguay head coach Gerardo Martino will announce his squad tomorrow for both matches. His team lead the World Cup South American Qualifying Zone on 23 points.

Eddie Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 By the way, I hope that the injuries to both Santa Cruz and Grella are simply the old "injured for an international" trick and not actually serious injuries, but if not then Santa Cruz is a player we should have sold in the summer and most certainly should have sold in January. This injury run was always going to happen.

gazsimm Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 By the way, I hope that the injuries to both Santa Cruz and Grella are simply the old "injured for an international" trick and not actually serious injuries, but if not then Santa Cruz is a player we should have sold in the summer and most certainly should have sold in January. This injury run was always going to happen. Santa Cruz is our best forward at the club, why the hell would Ince or Big Sam want to sell him, if they didn't need to sell by the board. He has not been as good as he was last season, but when he's fit i rather have him in the starting line up then either Roberts or Benni. Lets hope the injury he has got now is not a serious one and he will be back playing for us sooner rather then later.
Nelsta Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I dont think (injuries aside) Santa Cruz is playing any worse than he did last season. Yes he scored more goals last season, But he also missed an awfull lot of chances. And now with Bentley gone the chance's he was getting have dried up. He'd have 5/6 chances before he'd score. Now with the situation we're in and the intrest from City more is being made of the limited chances he does get.
Eddie Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I'm sure that all members are now all bowing to your powers of foresight eddie. Aren't we all? I don't know how to quote from locked topics...but here is what I said on Nicko's thread as early as May of last year, although I may have even said it earlier: May 7 2008 "I'm going to knock on wood for the next hour and also say that I hope, hope, hope, hope that I am wrong, but I fully expect Santa Cruz to break down at some point during his time here. Hopefully it will only be one season where he misses a couple of months, but given that he appears to have at least some type of knee trouble, it is unrealistic to expect him to withstand the strains of Premiership football, especially for someone of his size and the amount of pressure that must be put onto his knees. I hope I'm wrong, but I do think it will happen." I advocated selling him the summer and in January and it was one of my reasons behind it.
Majiball Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I see Hughes has announced he's been told he will still have a job next year. Does that mean we'll see him come back in for RSC? I'm really keen to see what happens in the summer with him, 20M and he's yours, with his clause. I'm in two minds over his future, he's capable of scoring goals but 15M in the hands of someone like Sam could really help us out in the summer and god knows we need some more quality.

We're desperate for it. You shouldn't sell your best players, but I wouldn't expect the trustees to come up with much in the way of transfer funds. It's a tough call.
gumboots Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Think as most of the players were making jokes and having nicknames he was just making a joke about it. Yes, I realise that. I was asking if anyone knew in advance of the programme being aired whether anyone knew if any of our players had succeeded. We now know of course that they were very poor at it and nobody did.
Sparky Marky Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Uneless Citeh win the UEFA cup I think Hughes will be on his way at end of season. No guarantees they'd still want him anyway.
bennyboyt11 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Yes, I realise that. No worse than the majority of CBC attempts mind!
gumboots Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 No worse than the majority of CBC attempts mind! Probably not but you have to wish they wouldn't show the fans, who are currently joint top of the champs league thing, up by being rubbish!

gazsimm Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 when was the crossbar challenge filmed, because both nelsen and rocky looked injured after their go MGP said he was suspended so i think it was between the Hull and Everton game, when they filmed it
ABBEY Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 MGP said he was suspended so i think it was between the Hull and Everton game, when they filmed it suspended from the crossbar in hancuffs and chains like?
chris Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Santa Cruz valuation must have dropped so much this year, all he is proven is he a sick note like everyone knew before he joined. Other then Man City, I would say he is worth 8-9 million. I have a feeling this it not the end of his endless injuries and other clubs have to bare that in mind.

ABBEY Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 why? he is always injured and has history of it not just here either.
gumboots Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 He's still our best player we have got though!!!. all round you're probably right. He's important defending as well as attacking.
