[Archived] Roque Santa Cruz Thread

Recommended Posts

I would just like to thank Cruz on behalf of all decent, hard working and LOYAL Rovers fans everywhere for reiterating his want away comments at our Clubs present and most important time of need.

What a fine gentleman you are Sir.....NOT!

At a time where we need concentration from the players and club, Rocky decides to play the selfish role.

I'm astonished. I really don't know why I should be astonished these days by the modern day footballer, but astonished I am. We all know you want away Rocky, but how selfish can a man get? All that matters - me me me.

btw Warning to Ben the beast and everybody elase.... I found out last week (and you are probably well aware now too) from a member of moderation that circumventing the swear filter is actually counted as worth a 25% warning as opposed to spelling the word correctly going unpunished! Basically what you wrote is wrong and very naughty but to spell it as #### is fine. :)

I'm sure you know the reason why - because a correctly spelt expletive will be automatically replaced reducing the possibility of offence.

If people can't articulate your opinion without resorting to swearing, they shouldn't post. Not only is it a sign of an inferior grasp of the English language but we also have ladies and children who read this board! Manners please gents.

And this lady probably hears more bad language in a day then many of you do in a month. However, I'd rather not see it when holding debates with supposedly grown up people!

Well, you will live in Clitheroe! :P Let me guess, teacher?

Gordon, i see you singled out my 'get lost Santa Cruz'. Im in no way trying to be rude, but when you have arrogant players who are up to no good your frustrations boil over. You must understand, to us the fans the club means more than some of these highly paid players who use us for their own benefits. Its been like this for many years now, and you are guranteed that coming out making statements like wanting to leave during a vital time in the season will cause friction on these message boards. I agree that using abusive language on here is wrong, but its something that unfortunately will always remain part and parcel of any debate if their are differences in opinions and feelings.

I think the days of transfer auctions are gone. Rocky will decide where he wants to go, inform that club and sit tight. The buying club will have no need to go above what they think they can get him for - not necessarily what he's worth.

Are you forgetting something Den? IF the various rumours and posters on here are true, then the ball is still in Rovers court, and we don't NEED to sell him, because as long as no club reaches the trigger figure Big Sam can hang on to him for as long as he likes, and there is nothing RSC can do about it. He will surely very soon come to the realisation that if he continues to sulk and feign injuries (assuming that is what he is doing?) he will remain a Rovers player. He will also have to start turning in some top class performances for Rovers as well or no other club will be able to judge his value or post-injury abilities.

There's no proof to suggest he's feigning injury. Could be seen as quite libelous actually to accuse him of that.

I hadn't forgotten that Fife. The nightmare scenario is that a club bids the get out clause hours before the summer window closes. So what would you do, if as is likely Man City come in for him, with a bid of around - let's say £6m in late July?

I'd say "NO WAY. You know the trigger figure Mr. Hughes. Reach it all in one and he's yours; otherwise please go away" (or words to that effect).

How could anyone suggest Benayoun as a replacement, wouldnt that be worse?

IMO one of the most underrated players around. When he plays for liverpool they are a much better team and he gets a fair few important goals.

Interesting to note that "Benni McCarthy, El-Hadji Diouf and Chris Samba all chose to miss the trip to Gleneagles and stayed with their families instead."

that's interesting can understand Diouf missing the trip as his wife recently had a baby but can't understand the other two also maybe Benni has to lose a few more pounds but Chris Samba is a mystery but am surprised RSC gets a loyalty bonus for what? he has shown no loyalty so why should he? Benayoun could be good I think he is one of Liverpool's most underated players or if City come in again I would tell them Sturridge or Caicedo has to be included in any deal or tell them to go away am I right in assuming then if we sell for say 20M Roque will get 15Mfor a loyalty bonus when he has been far from loyal shameful on his part

The guy was a top bloke to meet, but time and time again in the press he is proving to be a prick. With City, Tottenham & Liverpool (Linked this morning) all interested he can go, hopefully we get a bidding war and still get £15m, but if not and we only get approx £12m, maybe we could get Benayoun as part of the deal with the scousers? Or Bent & Huddlestone from Spurs?

One things for sure - we shouldnt ask for over £15m, because he doesnt deserve his £3m payment he is due if someone meets the £18m clause.

How could anyone suggest Benayoun as a replacement, wouldnt that be worse?

How could someone suggest him? Didnt he get 2 against Arsenal last night? When was the last time any of our players managed that? He is seriously under-rated and he creates many a chance for others too.

One things for sure we could do with selling him early to give Sam the full window to find a replacement.

Agreed - we need to put a deadline on Roque moving and make it public and clear that if nobody pays up by x date then he doesnt go anywhere.

How can you do that when there's a clause in his contract? Buying clubs will know that and use it to their advantage.

I'm gobsmacked that they have existed ever since the FOC situation was implemented. Very necessary to filter money through the game (but that sort of thing takes a back seat nowadays in employment law) and on a business basis just plain financial stupidity. The sentire system is baffling.

also maybe Benni has to lose a few more pounds

Last night a lady questioned SA about the Gleneagles trip and he said it was to get the squad away from the pressure. She scoffed at this given the situation and the recent performances and said that players like Benny should be running around Brockhall to lose weight. Sam laughed and said that he dearly wished Benny was present to hear her opinions of him.

But for phenomenon that is Tiger Woods it could be the opposite of the 'White men can't jump' effect. :)

Didn't a young Samba make an appearance a month or two ago?

I'm not saying he will, it just seems to be a common theme that players won't ask for a transfer because they lose a loyalty bonus within their contracts. Yet Shay Given missed out on his at Newcastle because he had to request a transfer, weird how it all works out.

Yeah I think they have to hand in an official transfer request to lose their bonus which is daft when RSC has made it quite clear he wants out since November.

Hopefully City will sign him up early in the window and the crock will break down again for them!

Roque gets a slice of the sale - around £5 million - if a club offers the trigger figure of £20 million.

As no-one will now go near that there will have to be some negotiating all round.

By the way, Roque's agent was over the other day...possibly discussing the subject.

More like an increase in his sickness benefit..

I've had enough of our players gobbing off in the press. RSC you owe us, you where rotting in the reserves at Bayern and going nowhere, until we came along.

As far as I'm concerned we should deal within the letter of his contract now, we accept the bid that means RSC gets nothing at all.

He's as good as handed in a request with all his whining and moaning, and now he's even saying he's played his last game.

I really hope he gets on the pitch before the close of the season, Personally I'd name him on the bench for sunday and put him on in the dying seconds just so the fans can voice their views.
