[Archived] Lets Have A Permanant Tribute To Tugay

Recommended Posts

i was talking to a man u fan tonight who loved toogs so much he nearly had sex with me.

even if he doesn't work out as a youth coach i'd pay him at least 34p to get a peg leg and eye patch and appear at children's birthday parties as a swarthy pirate.

Blackburn midfielder Tugay is set to sign a new one-year contract.

Rovers chief executive John Williams has revealed a verbal understanding has been reached to keep the former Turkey star at Ewood park for an eighth year.

The 37-year-old, who has played over 200 times since joining from Rangers for £1.3m in 2001, is the oldest outfield player in the Premier League.

The new deal is thought to be on a pay-as-you-play basis and will involve a coaching role.

Great stuff :rover:

Have to say that I am really surprised at this signing even if it is on a low wage and pay as you play deal. Tugay, a legend though he is, can no longer perform on the Premiership stage.

Lets hope he can nurture the youngsters into one of his protege's

I'm glad he's stayed on. We all know he can't last a game nowadays, but next season when there are 7 spaces on the bench there will surely be enough room for him for some games.

This is fantastic news. I love the idea of our midifeld learning from the maestro!

Learning what though?

Simply because he is a great technical player, - that doesn't make him a good coach.

Fantastic point.

I was thinking this. Even with two or three players coming in we are going to struggle to have seven decent players on the bench. Having Tugay around for the sorts of games which are petering out and need a spark to open them up makes a lot of sense.

OK his skill doesn't automagically make him a good coach but I'd rather he was coaching me than, say, the Axe! :)

I am delighted that Tugay is still with us!! A football team is more than having a bunch of mercanaries turning out in your colours. If you can have real affection for some of the players it really helps. That is why we are lucky at Blackburn.

I watched Tugay in a testimonial match. To put it in context it looked like some of the ex rovers greats were on prozac or someone had slowed the speed down. But Tugay's ball control and distribution were incredible. I have never seen anything like it. It brought home what a talent he is. You have just got to hope that he can teach whoever he is coaching something of his skills. Especially nowadays when it is so difficult to break down even some of the humblest defences.

I would also think that there are some games and situations were he can make a contribution

Movement. All the best players do the simplest thing so well. You don't need to touch the ball to beat a man and this aspect of the game can be taught. Tugay moves very well on a pitch much like Scholes. Also the usual stuff an international and experienced player can teach young player ( i understand that is what he will be doing). I think Tugay can be a very good coach and is a great example of how to look after your body. To still be playing in the top league at a top 10 club at his age is something to look up to.

Tugay speaks of delight at new Rovers deal

Speaking exclusively to the Lancashire Telegraph, he said: "I hope to help the first team as much as possible next season and I still believe I have plenty to offer at Premier League level.

"Football has given me so much in my life and I would like to help the young players at Blackburn to build their careers and break into the first team squad.

"I have always said that I love this football club and I have a special relationship with the fans.

"I have had seven great years here and, hopefully, there's more great times to come."

Tugay's agent, Simon Munir, added: "Tugay had offers from other clubs but as he has always said his heart is very much with Blackburn Rovers, so once they made him an offer, he was delighted to accept it."
