does anyone know the point in them having a penalty shoot out tonight lol?? i panicked and thought i had missed an equaliser lol

Just spoke to the guys who run the planetbenfica.co.uk website, they said it was tournament rules, just for fun apparently, and was supposed to end on 5-5 (or after 5 penalties each). But surely also because if the 3 teams ends on same amount of points?

Far from the old rovers. Not much lumping it forward. Quick wing play, driving runs from midfielders, very quick passing. The defence still needs some working and we still need to find the perfect partner for Roque. Best performers tonight - Pedersen by far, Emerton, Reid & Nelsen

Cheers!

Hopefully Rovers will provide some entertaining stuff this season! :D

Only caught the last half hour or so by which time we were 3-1 up but were completely on the back foot for the remainder of the game.

Shocking picture on the computer but from what little I could make out, we defended pretty well but looked fairly poor in midfield.

Had forgotten quite how bad the Axe is and hopefully Ince has found out at an early stage that the Tugay/Axe combination is a complete non-starter.

Good to see Pedersen doing so well, I also thought he looked really sharp at Macclesfield. Emerton also appeared to be playing well from the bits I saw.

I feel much more confident about The Admiral - he's back to his old self B)

Yep, should have mentioned that, he did look a lot sharper than last season as well.

Strange about MGP, two dire seasons under Hughes, someone else comes in and he looks a different player, even at this early stage.

Maybe that bleach has put him on overdrive

Could it be because of Bentley not playing? From what I was able to see last season, most of the attacking did seem too come down the right hand side under Hughes.

I don't disagree with your point about where our attacking play came from last season but you can't deny that whenever Pedersen had the ball, took a free kick, etc. he wasted it almost every time.

Im not trying too make excuses for him, most of the stuff he was serving up last season was rubbish. His last good year was with Emerton on the right wing, and a couple bad ones with Bentley there. Im just wondering how much the change in tatics might have affected his play, and hoping *fingers crossed* that he has a very good year.

Many thanks for that.

Encouraging result and sounds like there was some grit in the team last night- Roberts scored because Benfica didn't fanct defending that throw-in and the defence being put under sustained pressure would have been a good work-out for them.

Really pleased they are going straight into another game against high class opposition- a chance for players who did things right last night to do them right again tonight and really build confidence immediately.

The kit looks nice.dont see what the problem is,with the black numbering. Interesting thing i noticed, was that when we play an attacking game, gamst looks more confident and plays with a swagger. Also Bert was fantastic down the right, and the attacking game ince wants to play is brilliant.i cant remember seeing a game, when Hughes was in charge, where both our wingers attacked with so much energy.

Hi Folks,

have uploaded some pics from last night to -

http://s324.photobucket.com/albums/k343/ptholt/

Was an enjoyable night over all, got to say hell to Lee and met some other rovers fans, not something that happens often in the Algarve hehe.

From talking to the guys afterwards dunn + gallacher will definitely be playing tonight, wonder if robbo managed to get an algarve flight today...

see you there tonight!

Forgot to add if we have any budding photographers how can recommend some decent settings for floodlit football id appreciate it!

last night i was running are as follows which are a little to grainy (iso to high??) but having never taken floodlit footie pics before its a pain to trial and error and miss things.

iso - 800

320 shutter speed

aperture about 4.0

I normally take website pics in daylight so sports under floodlights is a new form of photography for me, hopefully someone can help me, maybe the guy taking the pics for rovers if hes reading lol, even better if he has a spare L lens hehehe

Shirt looks great, as little red as possible thank God.

Noticed more and more teams without the player's names on the back. Is this a new trend ? Prefer just the numbers myself. :)

How have the youngsters like Hodge, Kane, Judge and Olsson looked so far in preseason? Perhaps the reason they've (At least the midfielders among them) played as much as they have is injury-related, but it would still seem like Ince rates them.

Pre-season/friendly thing. Also some leagues don't have names on the back of the shirts in competitive games either.
