[Archived] Nicko's Thread Part 3

Recommended Posts

I don't understand, so somebody has read Nicko's posts on this forum and presented the information elsewhere as if it were their own? I'm not entirely sure what the problem is because, theoretically, anybody could have done that for months now?

I would imagine it is a slighlty awkward situation for Nicko professionally that his news is being posted second hand on the biggest betting forum in Europe. I'm sure Nicko's sources wouldn't be too happy either.

With transfer news it's irrelevant. With something like this, when there's almost £1,000,000 traded on the market, people become very interested.

Call me cynical but has anyone considered that it could be Nicko himself, and that all he's been doing is trying to ramp the prices to make a quick killing on Betfair?

From the outside looking in I'd just like to say that Blackburn Rovers have performed professionally throughout this whole saga and I respect the club for that.

Personally I feel as if someone told Hughes that he was a 'shoe in' at Chelsea but then things slowed down so then Hughes was 'advised' to apply for the City job just to speed up the process of him getting the Chelsea job. I also think that Hughes will not fit in at City and will be out of a job by next year.

But it's evidently time to move on and I have no doubt that Rovers will appoint the right man. Next season will not be as good as last year but the new man will need time to build his own team, just as Hughes did and I have no doubt that the season after next, Blackburn will be back stronger than ever.

Good luck,

ffan.

That decision has to say that Abramovich doesn't want Hughes and is never going to take Hughes. End of.

It damages Sparky because if one of the other top 3 comes up, what happened tonight will always be remembered.

Hughes now has to face going to Citeh and being given whatever over the top bawbles Sinatra choses to chuck at him and being fired peremptorarily.

Will he be calm and sensible about the situation he finds himself in when he must feel a head banging mass of rage and frustration. Chelsea has blown up in his face, is now the best time to pick up another live hand grenade at Citeh?

I think on balance he's going to gamble massively and take the downwards career step to Citeh, but if he decides to stay and JW will have him back at Rovers, we should be magnanimous as well.

I doubt Nicko would join Betfair's forum on the 9th March 2004 calling himself Blackburn Insider.

It's nearly time for the PM reassessment of MH. How's this for starters?

Coventry

Larissa

Arsenal kids

Bayer Leversusen

This season at home

Crap interviews "next level" etc

Brum away

No wonder JW wants rid.

Cliche corner....

"Absolutely delighted"

"I thought some of our play in the second half in particular was outstanding"

"Human rights offences? You've lost me there..."

Cheers for the updates nicko - well above what we could or should expect and much appreciated.

A strange couple of days to say the least. Summed up when the kind words of The Overlord Of All Evil (aka Dean Saunders - just in case) are one of the highlights. Looks like Hughes has no alternative but to go to City now. Not a good choice if you ask me. Not if you want to be the Manager. Anyway - thanks for a great few years.

As for us. Well life goes on doesn't it. Whoever comes in will be in a much healthier position than last time we changed managers. A good squad of players who certainly won't be allowed to leave - not on the cheap at any rate. £15m for new signings (?), minimal deadwood, potentially a Trust who were anti Welsh and might loosen the purse strings now?

OK you can't have everything. Whoever comes in will come to a great club - don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Someone up and coming please, not Big Sam (I can't see him changing his "style" of football now - and that would drive me mad).

Keep the faith as someone once remarked. :brfc:

"....and it's Blackburn Rovers, Blackburn Rovers FC, we're by far the greatest TOWN team the world has ever seen!"

(Oh look - there's a unique spin on an old song - at least if we sing that we'll not be far wrong - who could argue?!)

A lot of people seem to think Hughes has taken a gamble here, by putting himself forward for the Man City job in order for Chelsea to go for him and show their hand

I don't see it that way. Hughes does not seem the type of person to take that risk. Obviously he would have gone to Chelsea if they came in, but that does not seem to be the case now.

I think we need upto face upto the fact that he would rather manage Man City than us. This is a club with a wealthy but very peculiar owner. In fact, judging on his behaviour last season, one of the most eccentric chairman around who nearly got arrested not so long ago.

I could have accepted Chelsea but not Man City. But then again, I react angrily (initially) when anyone leaves our club.

Personally, I am finding that hard to take at the moment. I have said many times before that we will only realise how good Hughes was for us when he has gone.

Well, we are about to find out....

For the sake of completeness Talksport claimed about 9p.m. tonight that

1) Hughes was in a London hotel in a meeting it was believed with Citeh officials. (Was also on hand if Chelski needed him)

2) Allardyce was in a meeting and uncontactable until midnight. They said they couldn't divulge where or who with but they inferred it was Rovers by saying "if you put two and two together from what we've been talking about you'll get the drift."

3) Ancelotti had supposedly distanced himself from the Chelsea job after the earlier SSN reports claiming Milan and Chelsea had done a deal.

Keep the faith. While things might look a bit glum at the moment, I am confident that John Williams will make the right appointment that will take the club forward. Yes it is disappointing that Hughes is on his way but WE WILL COME THROUGH THIS.

I have noticed that there have been a lot on guests reading these forums for the past few days. Not surprising really, but maybe the forums should be restricted to registered members. On a separate point, do Nicko, ffan, Tom (and any other fans of other clubs), do you think that this site is generally better than most independent supporters message-boards? PS i am not a member of any betting forums, so you can count me out!

IF he goes to City then it will be interesting to hear his reasons why just to compare with what he had/didn't have at Blackburn.

At the moment though, we gotta remember that it's just talks at the moment and could confirm to Hughesy that he wouldn't gain anything from going to City with a crazy chairman.

I just get the feeling Hughes really wants out of our club. I would love to know what he is really thinking.....

I'm prob making 2+2 =5 but a couple of thoughts ....

I sit in the JW upper inner and I must say that Hughes demeanour on the touchline for the final weeks of the season was not positive at all imo. He seemed well ticked off at times and seemed to spend more time sat grim faced on the bench than usual. On reflection I was not all that suprised that this leaving issue has arisen, but what had changed him from being positively pro BRFC? Had missin g the Mags job brassed him off? Had he been told then what he actually had available to spend in the summer? Was it not much or could it be that the reported 10m was conditional on him selling Bentley or other coveted players? Was it a blind to cajole people to renew ST's on the opening offer? Was the lack of any takeover movement significant? Just wondering cos Sparky's only recently witnessed Arry capitalising fully on Newcastles interest in him by having a significant pay rise and money to spend on transfers.

Whatever..... but if he misses the Chelsea job he really needs to do a deal with JW to ease himself back in cos the City job could seriously damage his reputation and future career. He comes across as a man of dignity and integrity I'd think the pitfalls associated with the Newcastle job pale into insignificance compared to the baggage of working for the unstable asians regime. Managing Man City could mean that he might never be seriously considered for the OT job whatever he does.

Perhaps it's worth putting Nicko's thread in a members only forum, away from prying eyes but allowing guests to browse the rest of it without hindrance?
