Another manager could adopt a different approach to games tactically and set in place a different way of playing football which may be better for the current crop of players PLUS the additional players HE MAY sign. Add this to the coaching set up and we may see a better brand of football, hence the games we have lost we may get a point from or more, the games we drew we may win whilst also at the same time maintaining our winning ratio of games.

Result is a bigger points total, higher league placing and more tv money for apperances.

THATS HOW

I know one of the leading candidates they want to talk to...that's all I have managed to glean so far. There may be more. He may not want it.

But the chase is afoot.

Tally ho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope thats not a Foxy hint -

A little Chelsea nugget to make you chuckle...

Peter Kenyon has been speaking to Luciano 'Baldie' Spalletti's people about the job and the Roma boss is not that keen.

Roman will turn up somewhere tomorrow that will lead to wild speculation and a run on Betfair...

But sadly I must keep this to myself to make a minor killing and escort the lovely mrs nicko for a meal.

PS - Rover6 will probably tell you where he's going if he's not working on tomorrow's back page.

Well...alright, that works for me.

I suppose if Bentley leaves and whoever comes in spends £15-20 million very wisely, we could do better than last season.

and now for something completely different...

as once reported on here (oh, maybe 150 pages back), some had commented about the prospects of transfer interest in 19 year old American Jozy Altidore as one to look at, especially after it came out that Reading almost went for him in the January window

reports out of spain and the US this morning indicate he's off to Villareal for $10M (4.9M GBP) to be loaned out to Recreation Huelva (where I recall an ex-Rover loan player was tearing it up) so he actually gets first team experience. Anyhow, there you are.

Nicko correctly pointed out at the time he wouldn't get a work permit (as he's only had 3 US caps) this go around but could be there in a year.

You may now resume your frantic speculation on managers, bets, and projected media/messageboard insults.

Wake me up when we have a manager again

Nicko, any chance that Hoddle could be approached?

Completely agree - hoddle we do not need - even less his attitude.

A sad day indeed. I had a little tear in my eye at one point today. Hughes gave us some great moments and pulled off some amazing coups in the transfer market.

Going to take a bit of time to get over this, but like everything in life, need to move on.

Good to hear JW's comments. Need to take our time.

However, for me, just cannot see anyone decent out there at the moment!!

We need someone with profile, and sometimes my heart rules my head, but I would not be too upset with Shearer. However, looking at it properly and logically, he may not be the answer.

Oh, yes, just one more for City and the new manager. Ronaldinho was on tv earlier. He has a cake addiction which caused his weight problems and he allegedly wants £10m to play a season. Looking at his fat face and swollen midriff, its gonna take 3 months to get that lot off before he could even train, so if they expect to get him fit they better keep him off the cakes.

Really? My cakes are quite famous round here. I'm off to turn the oven on and get the baking trays out ;)

I think rover6 has rattled you - don't rise to his pathetic bait - your better than that.

It would not surprise me if Hughes and Williams didn't make an agreement between them about Hughes not coming in for Rovers players. Could anything have been written in the 'compensation agreement' or would that just be a money only compensation. At the end of the day City had to agree to Rovers terms before speaking to Mark Hughes

I'm prob making 2+2 =5 but a couple of thoughts ....

I sit in the JW upper inner and I must say that Hughes demeanour on the touchline for the final weeks of the season was not positive at all imo. He seemed well ticked off at times and seemed to spend more time sat grim faced on the bench than usual. On reflection I was not all that suprised that this leaving issue has arisen, but what had changed him from being positively pro BRFC? Had missing the Mags job brassed him off? Had he been told then what he actually had available to spend in the summer? Was it not much or could it be that the reported 10m was conditional on him selling Bentley or other coveted players? Was it a blind to cajole people to renew ST's on the opening offer? Was the lack of any takeover movement significant? Just wondering cos Sparky's only recently witnessed Arry capitalising fully on Newcastles interest in him by having a significant pay rise and money to spend on transfers.

Whatever..... but if he misses the Chelsea job he really needs to do a deal with JW to ease himself back in cos the City job could seriously damage his reputation and future career. He comes across as a man of dignity and integrity I'd think the pitfalls associated with the Newcastle job pale into insignificance compared to the baggage of working for the unstable asians regime. Managing Man City could mean that he might never be seriously considered for the OT job whatever he does.

Given that Hughes is no fool his decision becomes stranger and stranger.

1. Half the city fans on the radio don't sound like they are all that impressed by being managed by an ex red...... not that Shinitawara gives a flying one what the fans think.

2. I'd imagine that he's blown any chance of the OT hot seat.

This really mystefies me, I'm sure that he could have picked off a much better job easily enough, it's like he had to get away at any cost. I guess the passage of time may reveal all.

There is no way in the world Rovers could, or Hughes would be willing to implement such an agreement.

Honestly, John Williams does a decent enough job, but some people on here seem to think he is the second coming.

If he was half as good as some people make out he would have been successful in the past in persuading the Trustees to release more funding for Hughes/ in attracting new investment into the club / or persuading Hughes to stay now.

regardless of what we all think about man city and the last few weeks. Hughes has taken that job purely because he believes he can get city in the champions league. It's like me turning on football manager and thinking to myself im going to win the champions league in 3 seasons with blackburn. he wants that sort of challenge. unfortunatly at the moment with the lack of funds he didnt feel he could do that here so he's gone. i think we all need to thank hughes for everything he's done. lets move on and focus on the future. theres are plenty of twists and turns yet to come. thats why i love football.

Kenyon might have ferked Hughes up, himself up and us up by overreaching his authority.

There are some shrewdies around here. ;)

On both the Ronaldo situ and possible next manager front.

Cue the site seizing up...

AND DON'T ASK ME TO EXPAND ON THAT.

Al, you're quietly becoming a local Rovers legend.

A cybergenic combination of the tenacity of a Glen Keeley and the finesse of a Stuart Metcalf :rover:

Carry on like this, and your status will be well and truly cemented in the annals of East Lancashire :tu:

Then, you'll outgrow us and the next thing we'll know is that your head's been turned and you've defected to a bigger clubs fansite :o
