Given that Hughes is no fool his decision becomes stranger and stranger.

1. Half the city fans on the radio don't sound like they are all that impressed by being managed by an ex red...... not that Shinitawara gives a flying one what the fans think.

2. I'd imagine that he's blown any chance of the OT hot seat.

This really mystefies me, I'm sure that he could have picked off a much better job easily enough, it's like he had to get away at any cost. I guess the passage of time may reveal all.

There was a guy on Talk Sport as well earlier in the week who used to edit the City fanzine (Brian Borrows?) who was similarly unimpressed by the prospect of Hughes and his managerial track record.

"Why don't we go the whole hog and just appoint Martin Buchan?" was his comment.

As far as "leaving at any cost" is concerned I guess MH drew a line in the sand and decided he wasn't going to risk putting his reputation on the line by ploughing on any longer without financial backing.

Thats an impressive list on the betting odds.

Some class names but one just seems to be standing out for me and I never thought of it before

JOHN COLLINS

Young, ambitious, first experience with Hibernian and got them playing some fantastic football that even challenged Celtic and Rangers, has an eye for youth and never afraid to put them in and can pick a bargain.

And, most importantly, is currently out of work.

Collins has been mentioned before somewhere. Speaks pretty good French. wonder if he's got any contacts there still.

With Jean Tigana. Both got on well together and help is only a phone call away.

He fits the profile I'd like too. Young, sharp, speaks well, Looks good (yes, it does matter because your manager is the face of your club and if it looks good people look more favourably on you) Only question would be is he high profile enough to attract players to want to play for him?

i think blackburn rovers football club. one of the top ten teams in the best league in the world should be what attracts the players.

Perhaps it should but it isn't. People don't look at us and think "oh, they must be pretty good because they finished consistently in the top 10 in the Prem". They think "Blackburn - some little town in the Manchester area. Working class and mucky probably" You have to have a manager who makes people want to come look see and realise that the club is good. you've got to get past their initial reservations to be able to sell the club or let it sell itself.

There is no way in the world Rovers could, or Hughes would be willing to implement such an agreement.

Honestly, John Williams does a decent enough job, but some people on here seem to think he is the second coming.

If he was half as good as some people make out he would have been successful in the past in persuading the Trustees to release more funding for Hughes/ in attracting new investment into the club / or persuading Hughes to stay now.

He does look like Swiss Tony though which has to win him serious popularity points. A courageous man sporting a moustache against te last 15 years of fashion.

Hughes press conference should be worth a viewing tomorrow.

After just reading the Rovers statement I expect him to be equally complementary to the club which will do no harm with our bid to attract decent managerial candidates.

However will be interesting to see whether and how strongly he mentions lack of funds / investement at Ewood.

(apologies if mentioned already this afternoon. Typical that one the days you really want to keep dossing around looking on the internet your always really busy.)

Valery Gazzaev just backed in from huge, huge prices (1000/1) to 20/1 on Betfair. Only took about £300 to do it mind you.

Is that where Roman was heading Nicko? Moscow

The more I hear about this managerial race the more I like it.

It's like a breath of fresh air.

I think there could be five or six spoken to very shortly.

The one I mentioned earlier is good, possibly ideal. There is another who I think would be an absolute rip-snorter and is in the frame.

Forgive me for not mentioning names, but I am stacking as much info as possible here before going further.

But it looks like a healthy process from this range.

Rest easy - give it about two or three weeks and this could be a change for the better.

It's not where he will be tomorrow, but he has a big jet and can afford the petrol - so he might be doing some hopping about.

Just imagine - another Gazza.

I think Roman is daft enough to do anything at the moment.

Any chance these names will come out in the next few days.

Well if the Mirror don't print mine in the morning I will share it with you.

Like I say the first name I got is someone they want to talk - and possibly have called by now - to establish if he is keen.

But with some of the other candidates around it could get awful tasty.

The Big Sam fan club will no doubt be giving it large in some papers. I have my doubts. He isn't as good as the two names I have heard, that is for sure...and I don't object to him as much as some.

I've only heard you talk about one person like that before Alan! It must be a seriously disollusioned Owen Coyle?
