nowthen Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 SSN Leicester approach Paul Ince. Scrub him off. Probably.

philipl Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Must admit I am completely relaxed. I always expected we would have a quality field to select from (better than Bolton and probably better than Newcastle did in all reality) and I have great faith in the method and judgement John Williams, Tom Finn and the Rovers Board with the Walker Trust's active support in the process will bring to this selection process. Chosing the selected candidate will be the time of high drama and tension: 1) will Rovers be as leaky a sieve (or the agents be as gossipy)? 2) even the best selection systems can produce absolute donkeys and that risk will be there for Rovers. Although the Walker Trust is not producing cash at the moment, it is worth remembering that Rovers are a £50m outfit with the resources and door opening of a £700m+ business behind it that are still freely, willingly and enthusiastically given. It is not visible to football supporters but Rovers get for free what many other EPL clubs spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on each year.

It is not visible to football supporters but Rovers get for free what many other EPL clubs spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on each year. Hold the phone. At a time when a lack of spends helped push a manager out let's not start a toast to the Walker Trust. If you land a top boss it will be WITHOUT them... Come on, you are better than that.
den Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Santini? Perrin? I said 'sexy' for gawd's sake. Don't remember you saying "sexy", - is that one of your clues? Glenn Hoddle. Ruud Gullitt.
John Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Just after Xmas, I made reference to the amount of times Hughes kept mentioning it (lack of investment/funds). He is not one to spout his mouth of, but Hughes was almost mentioning it on a weekly basis. You could tell something was up. Ultimately, we paid the price...
Bobby G Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Nicko hasnt ruled out Gianluca Vialli who was mentioned by a couple of us. Could it be him...He has the clout about him but is he tactically astute?
den Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I already said Glenn Hoddle and he ruled him out... Meant Ruud Gullitt. His teams played "sexy" football didn't they?
nicko Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Sexy...very attractive idea involving a top coach who has been there and done that.
krislu Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Sexy...very attractive idea involving a top coach who has been there and done that. Could it be the former Wimbledon manager Egil "Drillo" Olsen?
John Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I presume we will hear the names later tonight/tomorrow??
Exiled_Rover Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Translation - Ince gets SSN to run a Leicester story because he really wants Rovers. Avoid. Avoid Ince or avoid that story?
vintageadidas Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 What's peoples opinion on how fast we should appoint a new manager?
SuperStella Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Gotta be Shearer and a strong number 2, or head coach.... or maybe a handful of good back room staff. Hughes hadnt managed at club level before.... completely different to international level - especially a sub standard wales side. Lets trust Shearer - he's a born leader and hates to lose Shearer will sure have some excellent links in the game that will hand-hold him through the early stages. Ewood would be rocking if he came, imagine the 1st game and all them shirt sales with Shearer on the back? I say the clubs this little injection of passion to get the missing thousands back! DO IT! Alternatively, if we can persuade the likes of Laudrup then maybe look at that too.... he surely has excellent pedigree all over Europe and his name can get the players in!! Maybe we need a fresh start anyway! COME ON, LETS BE EXCITED!!
Hasta Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 What's peoples opinion on how fast we should appoint a new manager? Ideally need to be in before mid-July to assess the team, get used the the players and bring new faces in. However I'd be happy if the process took a couple of weeks if it ensured we investigated all avenues, got all intterested applications in and ensured we made the right choice.
Antgrad Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I know he's pencilled in to take over Bayern in July, but could Klinsmann be the foreign coach, free agent, premier experience?
Ste B Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Sexy...very attractive idea involving a top coach who has been there and done that. Graham Souness (well Jan thinks so) David Ginola
