Blackburn Rovers is one of the world's plum managerial jobs.

No it isn't, Hughes would still be here if it were. I don't care where we come in the rich lists or whatever financial spin is put on it, the fact is we've probably peaked at 7th place and any manager coming in is going to be aware of that. Who will seriously believe they can compete with Everton/Villa/Portsmouth/City/Tottenham etc. over the next few years with the vast difference in transfer budget?

Top managers want big budgets, we are not a 'plum job' in world terms. What we are is an opportunity for young, ambitious managers to take a step up to a difficult challenge and prove themselves in the Premiership at a well run, stable club. Last time we were looking I think we were a far more attractive proposition; we needed re-shaping and the new manager would have the chance to cement a reputation of turning round a struggling club. This time it's very different, and the reality is that whoever turns up next will oversee us regularly finishing 10th downwards. The thing is, it won't be through any fault of their own, but it still won't look great on their CV.

Mike Newell, Simon Grayson, Dennis Wise, Gus Poyet, Zola, Hendry, Shearer - just to name a few

Nicko's description of one of the two was 'rip snorter':

1- that word gets me excited

2 - i dont think it describes any of those!

Our people are:

Free agents

and

Have played/coached but NOT managed in the Premier League.

So noone with a current job, and noone who has previously managed in the Premier League.

I know I've laboured this point but I can't think of anyone but Shearer for the first (British) candidate. If they've never managed it'd have to be a Rovers hero to even get the board to consider them.

I'm sure I'll be proved wrong though...

Nathan Blake  Ashley Ward

SUPER STU RIPLEY, SUPER ATKO, SUPER ROBBIE SAVAGE

A Shearer appointment would be all over the headlines for a few days. You're right about the rest though.

Bet Arsenal wouldn't mind. Easy 12 points :rover:

When you look at how much money is wasted at each and everyone one of these rich clubs on either poor players or good players which could have been bought for half the price, then you see part of the picture. Similarly when you see how many very good players (not just bought by Rovers) can be snapped up for under 5 million/good players out of favour at big clubs who will go for not that much, then you see that the challenge, albeit a hard one, is not an impossible one.

And should you succeed you will be talked of and regarded in the very highest terms. Sparky was a serious contender for the Chelsea job and was talked about as a future Man United manager. All this without winning a trophy or reaching a final or getting us into the Champions League.

I'd say there's definitely an attraction there.

Come on guys, it cannot be this difficult, at least not in the case of canndidate A.

British (I don't think this should be taken as a sign that he is not English).

Free Agent.

Premier league experience.

Been there and done it.

It's got to be Shearer.

Not sure on the foreign manager, but I'm thinking maybe Deschamps? He is a free agent, isn't he?

If someone looked at it logically then they would be well aware that we were lucky to finish 7th and we didnt actually have that good of a season. Out of the Uefa to Larissa, Out of The FA to Coventry 4-1, Out of League Cup to Arsenal kids.

Its a big job and im sure there are many managers out there who believe in their own ability and believe they can do a better job than Hughes. The key now is to select the right one.

I never said there wasn't an attraction, I just strongly disagree with us being 'one of the world's plum jobs'.

The transfer spending efficiency is only a benefit to us though, not potential managers. If they looked at Newcastle for example, they're not going to think "oh look at all the money they've wasted on crap, I'm not going there", they'll think more along the lines of "just think what I could have done with that money...". If spending a small budget wisely was a bigger attraction than being at a club that can spend loads and not achieve, then Hughes would still be here.

It's Gazza.

Wheel him out in his wheelchair (strapped in obviously) and let him shout abuse at just about everyone.

Interesting interview by Sir Alex on Sky Sports on how he could've helped gazza with his behavioural problems. Bit off topic but to be honest it was a very interesting interview.
