1. Get in a up and coming foreign manager with good contacts (not one of those old farts)

- Its really important that the manager has a clear strategy of how to play football and what players to sign.

Both Bentley and Cruz can be replaced, so if the right offer comes in then I have no problems with them leaving...

Ince's odds have really shortened over night. The three favouries are now Allardyce, Ince and Shearer.

I can't say I'd want any of them at Rovers. This is all quite depressing :(

:rover: nowy wrong with shearer and ince, with you all the way with bfs :brfcsmilie:

Something that has struck me is how quickly the whole deal was concluded. Was it simply a case our chiarman and board didn't hinder or slow down the process and as a result it was pretty quick. Or had Hughes been courted by City for quite a while, prior to the approach?

Listening to JW's interview last night, they had seen the writing on the wall at the time that the Newcastle job became vacant.

Part of that interview.

I personally think Ince is the outstanding candidate given we're not in a position to attract a Mourinho, Ferguson or Wenger.

As a list of three I think they're three of the best ones mentioned.

If it was looking like McClaren, Jewell and Coppell that would be "pass the revolver" time for me.

But that's less likely. Also, although many will disagree with me, as Bennis is the better finisher (*puts on helmet*) I feel that he would benefit more from an improved midfield and a more suitable forward alongside him than Santa Cruz would.

Ah Eddie; less is more.

Now you've decided to bow toward brevity, I have read one of your contributions; I'm happy to say you're not bloomin' wrong, you know!

RSC's value will NEVER be higher, whilst we cannot count on his knees holding up.

Benny's value is relatively low and will NOT increase. With the World Cup pending imminently in S. Africa, next season is crucial for the Bafana Hitman, and we might just reap the rewards.

Ince has been in my mind for sometime as Hughes successor. He is a natural winner, like Hughes and I think the has the passion and prescence to command the higher profile players respect.

The Club should never appoint someone for political reasons, but given the issues over black managers in the top league, it would also be a good move for the clubs profile.

I think there are possibly better options but it isn't a bad one.

I must admit however that once upon a time the though of Shearer as our boss would have horrified me but the gathering momentum is making me wonder a bit. It is a real heart says "yes", head says "God, no" type of situation for me...

Mr Williams will get it spot on though, have no fear...he is more vital to BRFC than Hughes or any of the players.

It occurred to me before, and I think even more so now I've read the interview with JW, that perhaps the reason Sparky wasn't given fund in January is because they expected him to leave within a year anyway.

If that's the case, it could well be that the incoming manager will have a nice pile of cash to spend on players - January's money, this summers money, plus the Hughes compo and and money from sales.

Does that equal 67.8million pounds? Can we have Ronaldo? Quick Nicko, get a story in the mirror quoting Christiano's Mum saying that she'd love to see him play in the famous blue and white halves :-)

Exciting times!

The thought crossed my mind also. But on the flip side, if the board had made the money available, we may well have qualified for europe and Hughes would not have left.

Just watched Hughes' news conference. He is boring - how did I not notice that over the past 4 years!! ;)

A shortlist of Ince, Shearer and Allardyce is depressing. I think it's compounded by the fact that Chelsea and City have been in the hunt and can throw money at whoever and whatever they want.

On Allardyce, I have heard from a close friend on a train that Allardyce is interested but there are 'issues' that may rule him out. Sounds tenuous I know.

Big Sam is still the man for me.

Shearer and Ince are too risky. Sam has his flaws but is steady.

Nicko, please can we have candidate B?? Or at least a clue?

Our first job will be top rob Ronaldinho off City :rover:

A lot of todays papers are saying if Sparky doesnt make the top 6 he's going to get the sack. His press cnference would be encouraging for every City fan, he didnt mention coming back for any of our players which is a good thing, but then again in football you never know.

Just want to know if Sparky did fail at City and Rovers somehow had enough financial backing would you take him back?

I think he would have gone anyway. At the end of the day, Rovers aren't really going to consistently challenge for champions league spots.

Not convinces Citeh will either, but with bigger crowds and more money, I guess they have a better chance than us (sadly). If they don't change manager every year anyway.

While im greatful for everything hughes did here and i wish him luck....imagine this situation...

We get a good manager, gets the best out of players and we pip Man City to the European place on the last game of the season...Hughes will lose his job but still....that will be a nice moment. Maybe daydreaming but never say never...pressure is well and truly on at eastlands.

He was asked directly about that and didn't rule it out. He also said he had no regrets about leaving Rovers.

The thing I'm concerned about re Ince is whether his MK Dons success was a one-season wonder. It's difficult to tell unless you really know the details of his management of the club, I guess.

Edit: sorry, this should probably be in the other thread.

Has anyone else noticed that this regime change is more exciting that the actual football? Maybe we should do it more often...

What worried me with the Williams interview is that he said "he will be taking some of his backroom staff with him"

he better bloody not be taking anyone, demand compo and lots of! didn't we have to pay big money for bowen?

Also in an interview with hughes earlier this year he said they are the best qualified 'team' in the premiership, well they can bloody well pay for that!

I agree that I was also amazed at how boring Hughes was. I suppose you don't see things like that when it is your own club, but I am surprised no one fell asleep during that conference!

I also feel that it is very significant that we don't appear to have fought tooth and nail to keep Hughes, or his staff. I have no doubt that JW would have preferred him to stay, but I don't think anyone at the club sees this as a disaster.

:rover: Managers come and go,i championed hughes for the rovers job, many said he had no experince, now i go for shearer and many say he has no experince.what i do not like is fans slagging hughes off because he has moved on,upwardly in his mind.we have the chance now off making the best player that ever played at ewood manager.if he says no,we have tried.i'm sure big al knows his limitations and will bring a experinced man with him.

newell-hopefully
