martmitch Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 He was asked directly about that and didn't rule it out. He also said he had no regrets about leaving Rovers. He also said he wasnt even considering chelski

thenodrog Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 The replies to that piece are pretty interesting Also, I wonder if this is how most City fans feel? http://timesonline.typepad.com/fanzine_fan...he-devil-i.html Seems like most Man Utd fans are aghast too. Still a weird decision imo. It's hardly like he was out of work or in a really crappy job is it?
thenodrog Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Villa after Brad Talk about vultures circling Better make him player/manager quick then........ And I'm only half joking.
Brownie Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Mate of mine with family in Blackpool said they spoke with Colin Hendry in a pub in Lytham last night and he said from what he's heard the job is Shearer's if he wants it. Nice to see Allardyce drifting in the betting.
nicko Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 He also said he wasnt even considering chelski Well, why did he 'sign up' with an agent to do the Chelsea move about two weeks ago then?????
BlueMonday Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Well, why did he 'sign up' with an agent to do the Chelsea move about two weeks ago then????? Because he has no principles
JAL Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 A new manager with NO MONEY does it matter who he is. Rovers have been exposed with the knowledge that the departing manager knows the full financial weaknesses of the club and fully understands the players motives to which he could exploit to his full advantage in the very near future ......this is not a good scenario at all for Rovers i fear .
RevidgeBlue Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 What worried me with the Williams interview is that he said "he will be taking some of his backroom staff with him" he better bloody not be taking anyone, demand compo and lots of! didn't we have to pay big money for bowen? Also in an interview with hughes earlier this year he said they are the best qualified 'team' in the premiership, well they can bloody well pay for that! I think it's been widely reported that the 4.8m in compensation is for the loss of Hughes AND his backroom staff (Bowen and Eddie N.)
rover6 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Or he is incredibly ambitious. Although, when Hughes stated that he didn't accept mediocrity, certain names did leap in my head.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Nicko, heard of any stupid and undervalued bids coming in for our players yet? No doubt the likes of Tottenham S**tspurs and Rotation Rafa will try to take advantage of our situation.
leftfooter Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 What has Hughes said? Hope he gives us some credit. Very disapointed in some of the things Warnock has said, however they could have been taken out of context i suppose. Friedel - Got to stay Warnock - Hope He stays Nelsen - I am not too bothered Samba - Hope he stays Emerton - Hope he stays Bentley - only person in our midfield with any class, if he goes must be replaced by a very good player Dunn - past it for me Reid - past it for me Pedersen - Not bothered if he stays or goes RSC - MUST KEEP HIM Benni - Keep him I heard the interview; they weren't. He sounded patronising, self-centred and peevish.
thenodrog Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Something that has struck me is how quickly the whole deal was concluded. Was it simply a case our chiarman and board didn't hinder or slow down the process and as a result it was pretty quick. Or had Hughes been courted by City for quite a while, prior to the approach? Never made public but i was informed some tiome ago that Man City were 'strongly' sounding out Hughes last summer BEFORE SGE was appointed.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Any chance of us hearing who candidate B is anytime soon Nicko? Is he the "rip snorter" or was that Shearer? Or somebody else who isn't one of those two?
RevidgeBlue Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Never made public but i was informed some tiome ago that Man City were 'strongly' sounding out Hughes last summer BEFORE SGE was appointed. The Broadsheets did report at the time that MH would have taken the job back then if asked - a stance that was predictably derided on here.
brian_gallagher85 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I'll die a little more inside if the "rip snorter" was/is Shearer
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Didn't Nicko say candidate B was a "rip snorter"? Candidate A is apparently Shearer
vintageadidas Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I heard the interview; they weren't. He sounded patronising, self-centred and peevish. Really? I thought he was a real down to earth lad with his head screwed on - obvioulsy not! It seemed to me like he only signed a new deal for Hughes and is not bothered about wearing the famous blue and white halves.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Yes, that's why I was asking who it was/when it would be divulged.
AndyC Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Philip Re: Shearer. He's more from the Hansen school of punditry, than a cheerleader. Quite dour and not afraid to criticise. I've been reasonably impressed, albeit that the level of football punditry in this country starts from a very low base. completely disagree. I think he says the same old things, cliche after cliche and has never had me thinking WOW - that was insightful. Martin O'Neil did that when he was a pundit at the world cup. Even Souness is a pretty good pundit, but i put shearer in with the redknapp school of footy talk!
rossyste Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Dont get all the shearer negativity.........he would put bums on seats and may actually be the catalyst to attract new investment in the club.........a legacy that would last far longer than him potentially running off to newcastle in a couple of years time assuming of course he is a success.Lets not forget the premier league is a brand..........having a ex rovers legend who is known in WORLD footballing circles is imo just what we need.
Hasta Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 It's hard to get excited with Shearer cos deep down we all know it ends one of two ways. Failure or St James Park.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Really? I thought he was a real down to earth lad with his head screwed on - obvioulsy not! It seemed to me like he only signed a new deal for Hughes and is not bothered about wearing the famous blue and white halves. You have to remember it must have come as a shock to the players.
cn_barlow Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 It's hard to get excited with Shearer cos deep down we all know it ends one of two ways. Failure or St James Park. im 99% certain in would be the first option
BlueMonday Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 It's hard to get excited with Shearer cos deep down we all know it ends one of two ways. Failure or St James Park. Isn't that always the case. There are no jobs for life anywhere, let alone football. Ask Tony Parkes
