Its not the end of the world. In fact, a bidding war between utd and city might be a good thing.

Would rather he stayed but if him and Bentley go, then its £30m extra for the new guy to use to shape his team.

I don't believe the United speculation, Roque doesn't fit the criteria in my opinion. United play with a roaming forward line, so i would imagine a pacey tricky striker would be best for them. Benzeama has been linked.

Yeah. It doesn't sound like RSC is chomping at the bit to leave like Bentley. He has had a good year, he knows if he goes to United he is going to be in and out of the team again, he is settled, got his best years ahead of him.

I don't think he will be gutted if he stays at Rovers next year and works on his game. A lot depends on the new manager of course.

You fail to grasp the simple point I'm making: Anything above a total failure and Shearer will be gone the next time the Newcastle job is available. Which could be as early as Christmas, you never know... Any manager doing well will eventually leave (Hughes being a prime example), but Shearer and Newcastle is a special case.

I really don't know where the "dud" and "Brian Kidd" stuff comes from; Signing someone other than Shearer doesn't mean it'll be Brian Kidd. There are more than those two out there. No matter how much of a legend he is, I just don't like Shearer as our manager for the reason above, and the fact that he has ZERO experience. Hughes had only managed internationally, but at least it was clear he was suitable for management. I've seen nothing in Shearer to suggest he is. The things that come with being a legend of the game, yes. But that doesn't cover everything, and no matter how great a player you were, your actions as a manager will speak louder. It's certainly an advantage to have the status Shearer has when you enter management, but it doesn't in any way guarantee success.

Your simple piont is you don't want to appoint someone who might be successful incase he's off when a better offer comes along. Well who ever comes along had better be successful or we'll all regret it. Hughes had zero club management experience. Dalglish had zero club management experience and it didn't stop them becoming very successful. Allardyce has plenty club management experience and I don't want him near the place.

Shearer with a good backroom staff would actually be a similar appointment as Hughes was, young good knowledge of the game but IMO would have greater status and pulling power. Appointing someone like Allardyce isn't giong to convince our squad that their future lies at Ewood.

Meaning it would have to be around 17 million pounds now for us to sell.

Problem is what would we do with the money!? He is a class player.

Im getting sick to my stomach with how this pre-season is turning.

I can get over Bentley for 15 million pounds but him for around the same figure is sickening.

Get Bilic in, get him to lure Klasnic with him (who's on a free by the way), give him the £30 million to use elsewhere...wahey!

If only things were that simple. :(

Too true brother. £30m for the pair would represent tremendous business with plenty of scope for a new boss with good contacts to replace them.

If you believe the papers Bentley has only a one year contract and Hughes is going to get both Bents and Roque for a combined £18 million so £9 million each.

They do come out with such utter crap most of the time.

Yeah I can't see the price being cheaper based on quantity, esp if RSC was supposedly worth 11mil and Bentley 15mil 18 for both is like buy one get one free and a slap in the face.

Klasnic has joined Betis on a free already.

Roque at 20 million would be a tempting sell but only Man City would possibly pay that much. United think they will be shopping at a bargain store.

United have shown they don't mind paying over the odds for a player if they really want him.

Carrick, hargreaves, Rio Ferdinand, Nani etc.

The thing about Cruz is he does not seem to be the guy they need. You would think he is a target man by the strength and size of him but really he likes to come deep and pick up the ball the same way that Rooney and Tevez do. Ferguson needs a big guy who is going to spearhead the attack. Cruz doesn't offer that. Benzama is more that sort of player.

Wow, either you struggle badly with reading comprehension or you're intentionally misrepresnting my position. Or perhaps you're right, as a Rovers fan I obviously don't want a successful manager...

Hughes had zero club management experience. Dalglish had zero club management experience and it didn't stop them becoming very successful. Allardyce has plenty club management experience and I don't want him near the place.

Ah, A was Y and was successful, but B was X and failed. Therefore, let's go for someone with Y. Excellent logic that.

Not going to bother with this anymore, but I love your logic. Because I don't want to take a huge risk on Shearer that means I want Sam Allardyce or Brian Kidd (Brian Kidd who had no experience either btw. Shouldn't that have meant he'd go well?), despite never having said so. There are more people than Shearer and Allardyce out there.

The media are dishing out death by a thousand cuts at the momnet. SSN just had a reprot which all but looked like a shopping list of all our key players.

At the momnet the Clubs hands are tied, but as soon as we get the managers post sorted I hope we come out fighting, because this is torture!!

Not much sense going on here. New Barcodes on the block methinks!

[i]'New Manchester City manager Mark Hughes insists there was never any chance he would take over at Chelsea.' Rubbish

"Once Manchester City made their intentions known I was very focused on getting the opportunity to come to the club,"

So why turn them down last time Hughsey?

"it was an easy decision." (But needed 48 hours to think about it)

Hughes promised substantial funds by Manchester City but will Hughes get to spend it - Franky's already said who he wants to buy. And according to reports in Bejing will get blown up if he goes to Thailand - Wonder if he's set up a trust!

....Brazilians Jo and Ronaldinho... If they're available at the right price I will be interested." not such substantial funds eh? And I don't think it will be you making the decisions.

"It was difficult on occasions with the amount of finance available - I knew there was a limit to how far I could take the club and it's a case now that I'm at club that can match my ambitions." but only if players are at the right price?

Club owner Thaksin demonstrated his ruthless streak by dismissing Sven-Goran Eriksson this week, one year into a three-year deal, despite leading the club to a top-10 finish. Top 6 or our out then Mark. Happy nine months.

This is looking better and better. I can't wait until our new young dynamic manager starts in a few weeks. If Bentley does go we could have a warchest approaching £30m and by my reckoning City could be still looking up at us in five years.

Has anyone at this shambles of an operation thought about what happens if something unfortunate does happen to Franky (or Liverpool come along!) - ie who's going to pay Ronaldinho his £300,000 per WEEK for the remainder of his 3 year contract. Talk about live today and forget tommorow. Remember he's 59 now and hardly led a stress free life has he.
