[Archived] Nicko's Thread Part 3

Recommended Posts

There is a process going on here with regards to the post.

The chairman is at a meeting in London today and tomorrow.

I believe he will establish who the runners are over the next few days.

There is a board meeting next week at which I would imagine a list of names will be presented.

Right now it is a case of finding out who wants it, what they would want, who they would bring with them.

If it goes properly there should be a final choice next midweek.

Some of the candidates will be wanted by other clubs, so there is that to consider.

But overall it's moving and it's moving properly from what I can see.

Good news but pretty much as expected.

Frankly I don't care

a) whether we hear a name or not so long as the one appointed is a very good one for the club

B) that the press sell every player 10 times over as they are on their holidays and clubs don't sell when they are between managers unless they are in deep financial doodoo one way or another

That snippet about Hughes' agent you posted here nicko- one for the press?

Wow, either you struggle badly with reading comprehension or you're intentionally misrepresnting my position. Or perhaps you're right, as a Rovers fan I obviously don't want a successful manager...

Ah, A was Y and was successful, but B was X and failed. Therefore, let's go for someone with Y. Excellent logic that.

Not going to bother with this anymore, but I love your logic. Because I don't want to take a huge risk on Shearer that means I want Sam Allardyce or Brian Kidd (Brian Kidd who had no experience either btw. Shouldn't that have meant he'd go well?), despite never having said so. There are more people than Shearer and Allardyce out there.

I think Shearer is the man to go for and I'm countering your 'logic' that because he has no experience he will not be successful.

This is so daft. 100% nobody is going anywhere until a new manager is in place.

If Bentley goes – he has 3 years on his deal left, and wont go for less than £15m.

Roque is 26, and scores over 20 goals last season, he is happy, but could possibly go, but again it wouldn’t be for less that £15-20m.

So either way – they stay we have 2 very good players.

They go – we have £35m+ in the bank to spend on players + £10m already promised.

Future is bright boys. The Rovers will come out of this stronger.

Hughes wont finish in the top 6 next year unless he spend over £50m. Jo for £20m, Ronaldinho for £10m+. He needs a new centre midfield, a right winger, 2 strikers, a centre back and full backs. That’s him out of a job If he fails.

[i]'New Manchester City manager Mark Hughes insists there was never any chance he would take over at Chelsea.' Rubbish

No, it's completely true. They could have had Hughes in a matter of minutes if they wanted him, but they were going round Europe trying to recruit top coaches with a winning pedigree. Many of us on here Hughes was not seriously in the running, it was all media hype.

Other than Nickos estimation and educated guess about us possibly having 10 million to spend, who has confirmed we have 10 million? I doubt it.

Also be sure that in case Bentley or Roque or both leave, the new manager wont get all of the money from those deals to spend on players. It has never happened that way for us in the past and it wont this time...

Hughes thought he was to quote "nailed on" for the Chelsea job, so much so that a close friend of his apparantly staked £5k on it. So I am told anyway but the source is one I trust and it goes along with Nicko's belief too.

If he was so confident then why didn't he wait longer to see who Chelsea appointed?

I'm sorry, but none of this adds up.

He probably went from feeling "nailed on" to just being one on a shortlist of 4/5 and decided that he was better off taking the offer when he had alreayd burned his bridges. Basically, it was a game of chicken and Hughes didn't have the cajones to stick it out.

After shelling out the amount of money referred to; would 6th place really be good enough?

Not likely.

Your ex-manager was told - as you were - on Tuesday evening that Roman didn't much fancy him and would go for someone better.

If you followed the timeline it is all pretty obvious.

Having been snubbed like that he goes to Man City and then puts the boot into Chelsea by his comments today.

I too think Shearer is the man to go for. It would certainly add some interest from an investment perspective. Club may as well milk the opportunity. Everyone else does.

Had a chat with Bennie when he was down here. He didn't seem to surprise that Hughes has left. From his body language seemed okay with it. He actually commented that he might now play in his proper position. I really think he should stay. Bennie's performance is based on his mental strength. I think that he will be back to his best next season. I know him, when his excited about the season, he plays really well and now he is also comitted to ending his career at blackburn (good sign). Surprisingly, I think, an Alardyce would be good for Bennie. Shearer would do just as well.

The nice thing about Hughes leaving is that at least we will have some excitement in the transfer window. I would like Bentley to stay but if he must go, I like the thought of Lennon replacing him with an extra 7 million or so.

Lastly, JW is a bright guy (arguably the best in the business). I think he had already planned for hughes departure sometime back. Probably picked up emphasis in January. Everyone speaks of how Hughes picks Gems, JW and the board are also good at that. They will make the right decision.

Dont forget 6th doesnt guarantee European football. Only 5th does.

Well the good Dr. will have the opportunity to sample the delights of UEFA Cup football this season. Once he's witnessed the likes of Lokeren, FC Haka etc...on a damp Thursday night, and seen the subsequent fall in gate revenues due to enforced Sunday kick-offs, perhaps the height bar will be raised a notch -_-

Is that like when Grabbi said Souness was playing him out of position and he's actually a left winger?

Edit: Grabbi has apparently just been released by AC Bellinzona of the Swiss second division. Bless 'im.

Yep...except Grabbi hadn't won a champions league, uefa cup, league titles, been to world cups or finished second top goal scorer in the premiership before having his role within the side changed.
