Nicko has said its him there, hence why he is annoyed he sat on the story! Has ten cate managed before?

So who is interested in the rovers job Nicko??

Candidate B is Henk Ten Cate. I can't think of a better experienced manager currently available. His CV is phenomenal, he has been everywhere big and small and is a tough guy.

Anyone who can prop up Avram Grant and take Chelsea so close to the double has to be special.

Anyone who can make Barca play like they did - win a Champions League - and then leave Rijkaard looking exposed when he goes is something special.

He has worked everywhere, started at the bottom and gone to the top - and he is still hungry.

The guy knows players round the world and to have him as your boss would give you respect that few others could manage.

So what if he ruffled a few at Chelsea? Who wouldn't want to give John Terry the odd verbals?

Ten Cate has NOT agreed with Panathinaikos, the story has probably come from one of his agents. It's an understandable 'hurry up.'

I know he wants the Rovers job...I just hope they move for him.

Candidate A - Alan Shearer - is a very good choice too but at the other end of the scale.

If you got either Shearer or Ten Cate I would be personally overjoyed.

And, NO, don't back Ten Cate on Betfair yet...I'm just saying he is Candidate B.

At the other end of the scale thats for sure! I have no idea why he would be a "good choice". Being a great player does not in any way make you a great manager.

Fully agree with you on Ten Cate nicko but can't for the life of me see why a knowledgable football man like yourself would like to see Shearer at Rovers.

Was going to ask the same question, I value your football judgement, and agree with most of it, but can you tell us why you think Shearer would be a good choice, apart from his "aura"?

I'm all for a disciplinarian, however i get the impression that Ten Cate is way over the top.

At a club with our resources and small squad size we can't afford for the manager and players to have a mega bust up.

Yep, forget what this man has achieved and all his contacts and experience, for what you feel is his character. We don't even know the guy, barely heard his interviews so we're just going on newspaper hearsay.

Wha Hey! As God is my witness Clog Blue and I decided he'd be the best option on Wed night over a few scoops of Kronenberg! None of us put any money on of course but now I think about it I did notice a silver haired, stiffish built scottish fella sat close by staring at us intently! ;)

Ten Caat would be an amazing appointment.

Great coach. Maybe not the "good guy" in a good guy bad guy tandem, so he would need a likeable assistant manager with him. His coaching is second to none but his man management style means he isnt there to make friends.

Tribal not the most reliable of sources but is that JW comment code for some sort of hands off element in the settlement between Rovers and city?

I had a feeling you might pick holes in that - actually I already knew they had taken the quote from this article, you will find it in the last paragraph.

Interesting stuff, Nicko. Yes please to Ten Cate, go for it JW!

Still very worried about Shearer. Will never forget what he did for Rovers but that was in the past and I'd rather he cut his management teeth on some other club.

Now you have revealed Rovers approached ten Cate and he responded positively and is putting the hurry on to Rovers, I have to say I am very interested in this one.

The guy has done a lot but definitely has something to prove in the Prem.

PS thanks for tidying up the source of that JW comment rm, I think some things have obviously been said between Rovers, City and Hughes on this matter.

Its been well publicised the bust ups he has had with players at Chelsea and Barcelona.

His CV is impressive, just not sure his abrasive personality is what we need.

Its all about managers profile for us.

Put it this way, I wont be buying a season ticket this year

Dream is over and its hard to take

So when Rovers probably need all the support they can get you're going to bail out?
