nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Nicko, do you know if any other clubs in Europe are after Laudrup? He is still talking to Panathinaikos, but he might have something else...

Nate Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 What have you got against Toadie? I bet that is actually your own copy I'd be pleased with Cate, as opposed to other candidates.
gumboots Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 We need to build team spirit. is this the guy to do it? Bentley did say he liked working for a manager who was big on discipline, so there are presumably players out there who would like working for him. Can he do a job on a budget? I really don't know anything about him which was why i asked what he did at chelsea. My major issue is he's dutch and although i've met some lovely dutch people and have good friends over there, they are an arrogant race when they go abroad, much worse than the Germans are preceived to be and i worry how much that would spill over into the club.
tcj_jones Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 What fantastic news. Henk would be a great appointment. He's head and shoulders above any of the alternatives. Oh, and I'm ecstatic to hear Fat Sam is well down the list!
Bobby G Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I wouldnt take Laudrup as he is too much of a young hungry manager, and is on the fast track towards one of the biggest jobs in world football that he wont stay here more than 1 or a maximum of 2 seasons, and we dont need a short-term fix to that extent. People like Allardyce and Ten Caat have already flirted with the big boys and I dont think any BIG CLUB will come in to appoint them as a number one anytime in the future so that they would leave us. Thats at least my rationale. Ten Caat has become my overwhelming favorite now to take over.
bringdunnback Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 You can't even get odds on Ten Cate according to this http://www.oddschecker.com/football/footba...ackburn-manager. Like krislu said the more I hear the more I like. I forgot he had managed at Ajax, I thought he was an assistant manager looking for his first time in management.
gumboots Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 And if he's that fantastic which part of our club would attract him to Rovers? Said without any sarcasm but with a real desire to understand.
krislu Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 If we get Shearer then it will be a HUGHE let down!! Could anyone care to make a 50x50 metre banner saying "STAY AWAY SHEARER" and lay it on the hill behind Ewood Park?

Antgrad Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Wha Hey! As God is my witness Clog Blue and I decided he'd be the best option on Wed night over a few scoops of Kronenberg! None of us put any money on of course but now I think about it I did notice a silver haired, stiffish built scottish fella sat close by staring at us intently! Well without wishing to blow my own trumpet as Nicko put the idea into my head by saying he was up for the same job as Laudrup but I did say he'd be a good option on here at 14.22 on Wednesday. As Nicko later said nobody had got the guy I dismissed it. Oh well Thanks as always for the info Nicko. Still worth a couple of quid on Betfair?
nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 And if he's that fantastic which part of our club would attract him to Rovers? Said without any sarcasm but with a real desire to understand. He IS interested. He has worked in some oddball places, with some penniless clubs and come out on top most of the time. This guy is a crusty, a hard-but-fair bloke who knows the score. I remember Denny Landzaat at Wigan telling me he is the best coach he has ever worked with. Forget the age concern factor...he is only 53. Would you turn down Furious Fergie? AND he knows the Premier League. Anyone who can work at Barca and Chelsea and want to come to Blackburn is all right by me...and I'm not even a fan!

thenodrog Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I'm all for a disciplinarian, however i get the impression that Ten Cate is way over the top. At a club with our resources and small squad size we can't afford for the manager and players to have a mega bust up. Eh? We can't afford a soft arse aka Brian Kidd thats for Goddamn certain! Just as a matter of interest do you think Hughes was a softy? I' bloody well dont.
krislu Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Hughe eh? Still can't quite forget Mark is no longer here? Nah, Hughes have done a very good job at Rovers. But, the last season we played some real rubbish football where the man at times seemed to have lost the plot. In my honest opinion, Hughes leaving might be a blessing in disguise, IF we can get the right manager in, i.e no ####### Shearer/Ince!

ally Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 just seen a special of mark hughes still being city manager at the last game of the season - 1/9!!ha
bringdunnback Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 As long as he doesn't bring Edgar Davids(the swine) I'm happy.

Was only commenting on your typo, not the sentiment.

I' bloody well dont. Agreed. He could be just the man to kick the backsides of certain members of the team who have frankly needed it for long spells last season.

Just genuinely wanted to know why someone supposedly that good would want to come here when people keep saying in your dreams to so many other managers. Ferguson shows that age isn't the important factor, I agree. Does he like most other Dutch acquaintances speak good English? what's he like with the media?
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I'm not totally opposed to having Ten Cate as manager, his CV is impressive. I would certainly have him over a lot of managers we have been linked to. I would of course back him if he came into the club, but the fear of a bust up between players and manager will always linger in my mind. Something that if happened could really damage us considering the size of our squad.
philipl Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Just off to a meeting with a spring in my step- obviously the ten Cate effect!
