Its all about managers profile for us.

Put it this way, I wont be buying a season ticket this year

Dream is over and its hard to take

Sorry John but if your 'dream' consists of watching the bilge that was served up for the majority of last season then I suggest you've been eating too much cheese before bedtime.

Re-read my post i said i was all in favour of a disciplinarian, but that i felt Ten Cate may be over the top.

Whatever BUT Anyone who 'alledgedly' stuck one on John Terry won't ever need to stick his hand in his pocket in my pub! :rover:

Im coming around to think Ten Cate could be the perfect manager to take over our club, wasnt too sure about him at first but having looked at his qualifications he could be excellent!! He has to have tactics coming out of his ears if you look at the different styles of play between chelsea & Barcelona!

If he ruffles a few feathers among the squad who cares, No one player IS blackburn rovers! he could replace them with better players from europe who may not cost as much! I would rather have a manager the players fear than one who lets them away with murder! As Nicko says Sir Alex hasnt done badly with this approach!!

Now you have revealed Rovers approached ten Cate and he responded positively and is putting the hurry on to Rovers, I have to say I am very interested in this one.

The guy has done a lot but definitely has something to prove in the Prem.

PS thanks for tidying up the source of that JW comment rm, I think some things have obviously been said between Rovers, City and Hughes on this matter.

Got to agree with this.

He is an angry boy, but that in a way shows his commitment. I am not a fan of bawling, I liked Hughes because he could ooze authority in a quiet voice. However Ten Cate's cv is exceptional, his methods have obviously been effective in the past, and we do have a squad that is probably more weighted to players receptive to that attitude than those who would be ruffled by it. He has experience all over Europe - by far the best connections in terms of us looking to sign players from areas we can afford the talent, he likes playing attractive football, he has experience of bringing through quality young players.

On the downside he does strike me as someone who will come in, take one look at the likes of Bentley, Roberts and Warnock and hoof them out if they look like their going to winge. He might also misjudge the way the club can be effectively run in his keeness to apply his own stamp and try to do things that are not culturally possible. On the other hand I could see his tough style and european background appealing to McCarthy, Pedersen, Nelsen, Reid and Cruz, and if he judges it right a firm hand is exactly what we need.

The fact that he has worked on a shoestring before is a good sign. Although how prepared is he to take the radical change in resources from the likes of Barca and Chelsea? It's a big step into his past.

And if his sole motivation is to gain rewenge on Abromovich maybe thats not too healthy for Rovers. So I guess, as always, it will come down to the interview and how much he really appears motivated and imaginative about this job specifically rather than losely looking for a way back into management and retribution on the football field.

Generally speaking I am in favour of a young person because they are more likely to be hungry. But Cate at 53 still seems ravenous. At the least a fantastic name to be interested. It shows how far we (and the Premier League as a whole) has come.

In the 1997-98 winter break Ten Cate switched to manage Vitesse, which he led to their best Eredivisie ranking in their history,

In the 1999-00 season he managed Hungarian side MTK Hungária FC to win the Hungarian Cup and a runners-up place in the PNB League. He returned to the Netherlands and became manager of NAC Breda which he led until 2003 earning them a spot in the UEFA Cup for the 2003-04 season.

Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam offered him a contract and he led the team to a sixth position in the Eredivisie in 1996, they also reached the final of the KNVB Cup that year,

I'm not keen on this Henk Ten Cate.

He's never worked for any BIG clubs like Tottenham, West Ham or Birmingham

Nicko, you definately think he wants to come here? Don't Panathainkos have the champions league next season? I don't know much about their finances so i can't comment which club might be more attractive in that aspect.

I am drunk and upset, sorry.

I always said, we will realise how good he is when he has gone. Sadly we are about to find out.

The harsh reality of having no money to spend in the Premiership will hit home. Fair enough the lower leagues but not in this ultra competitive environment.

Just made a request to betfair to add him to the market, so we'll see if that produces anything. If he gets even slightly long odds then he's probably worth backing just to see what happens.

Don't get me wrong I'd be happy with ten Cate, but his past record isnt amazing, his managerial successes have mostly come in the Dutch league and they've been quite minor successes. He also seems to have changed clubs with alarming regularity, something that noone has picked up yet.

Sure he's been assistant at top clubs but we all know what happens last time we appointed a manager based on that...

And who else interested in the Rovers job has been in two Champions League finals in the past three seasons?

Help me here, I'm struggling.
