Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Would you say he would rather come to us/is more likely to come to us or not? Thanks for all the updates, it's much appreciated! And making a members area shouldn't be terribly difficult so it might be an idea.

nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Would you say he would rather come to us/is more likely to come to us or not? I know he wants to come, but if he is not the club's choice he will go to Panathinaikos. The different slant in the Dutch article is just someone trying to push it on his behalf. I was fuming at first when I heard this morning, but I don't mind in the big picture - because the guy obviously wants the job and is keen for people to be aware of that.
nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I HAVE TO SAY THIS IS VERY INTERESTING... http://www.thisisblackburn.co.uk/display.var.2323897.0..php
nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Did they just regurgitate what you said or something? No, the give-away is that the Dutch article says Rovers missed out...I said they were still in the running. So that is definitelty info from here. Don't worry, I have a reasonable record for sniffing out leaks.
AJW Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I dont subscribe to the notion that shearer would be a bad choice because his loyalty would lie with newacastle, we've been living with the spectre of that cloud for the last 3 years with mark hughes , if utd had come in for him he would have been off like a shot too!! the main opposition from me would be his lack of experience , but i dont see marco van basten or jurgen klinnsmann struggling with that either and in any case shearer is clever enough to realise he needs experienced people with him and like nicko says he would be great for commercial reasons , if there is a shortlist and if sheare ten cate and laudrup are on that list , i think we can be very happy
Cocker Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I HAVE TO SAY THIS IS VERY INTERESTING... http://www.thisisblackburn.co.uk/display.var.2323897.0..php I felt that was the case before reading those comments - such a shame
Mozzer Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 henk ten cate is the sort of manager we could definatly do with-not only his cv, but im guessing he would have contacts all over europe-and someone like this could possibly persuade our best players such as cruz from leaving.. realistically i didnt think someone like him with a cv he had would be interested in a club like blackburn.
vizcaya Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Like someone has said, making this thread members only would't work, not in the long run. Possible short-term fix yes, but it won't solve the problem. But, as a suggestion: I know a couple of forums do have a sort of "grading system", where there's a section or two which require a high level of activity in order to get access (i.e. a certain number of posts). I've seen the system, and it works very well. Might be an idea? Don't know if it's possible on this site though.

Problem with that isthat people will post pointlessposts just to get their activity levels up sadly

waggy Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 We've just had one of those it turns out, and he did a good job for us. Rem this waggy professional (adj)...... participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs <a professional golfer> b : having a particular profession as a permanent career <a professional soldier> c : engaged in by persons receiving financial return <professional football> how did hughes fit in that cat
nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I'm just going to have to be very careful in future... But it would be better if people read this and kept it within 'the family' rather than getting wise and passing it on everywhere. Self-discipline is possible.
nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 The person on betfair claims it was mentioned on SSN, this true or rubbish? They aint giving much away. It's not been on SSN. It was someone reading this and trying to be smart. Annoying.
Brownie Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I'm just going to have to be very careful in future... But it would be better if people read this and kept it within 'the family' rather than getting wise and passing it on everywhere. Self-discipline is possible. I've just requested some odds on Ten Cate. Are you saying you'd rather we'd not place bets Nicko ? That would be very very difficult with the quality of the info !
nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Of course we could always make it a subscription site and buy the bleeding club ourselves... Is that 120,000 'views' in four days? At £1 a time that could even pay my wages and give mrs nicko a day off from the salt mines.

Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Have an area for this thread which has a requirement of say, 30 days membership to view. People who don't post often but are real supporters and not Stroke Boy can see things.
nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 I've just requested some odds on Ten Cate. Are you saying you'd rather we'd not place bets Nicko ? That would be very very difficult with the quality of the info ! I'm saying DON'T back him at the moment on my advice...I can only tell you he is a candidate and a very good one, but that's all. If he had been 50s I would have said stick a couple of quid on. I DON'T want to be getting people into debt on 'runners' rather than 'sure things.' The Chelsea chaos proved that backing the people in the frame can come back and bites your ass because that came down to the Top Man vetoing things. This is a more orthodox process where good names will be spoken to and hopefully bad ones ignored. On that score, if you 'laid' some of the early favourites you would have been both happy at the outcome and your winnings...but I'm not advising that either, just pointing out a way of winning on these markets. I have won well on these things in the past by simply selling non-runners at short prices.
Ronin Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 have seen some forums where you can't read them until you beome a member. So rather than locking particular threads maybe locking down the whole forum could work.
Mozzer Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 nicko-thanks again for your brilliant updates yet again..very much appreciated.. you should be journalist of the year haha-majority of your stories are mainly true unless things change in football in which they can..
Bennisfromheaven Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 disagree i dont post much but ive read most of the thread better idea needed Me too!! dont get the chance to post all that often but read this site every day!
Ricky Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Somebody looking here goes on the Betfair forum. That is official. I am a very placid pussy-cat most of the time, but don't pull the old tiger's tail because he can get vicious... I'm just going to have to be very careful in future... But it would be better if people read this and kept it within 'the family' rather than getting wise and passing it on everywhere. Self-discipline is possible. Nicko, I can speak for the majority of members whan I say that we appreciate your posts. But you have to remember that this information is public, guests can view the site and anyone can join. We can't stop people posting things that they read on here on other forums much in the way that we get a lot of posts on here of information that people have heard or read elsewhere. At the end of the day surely SSN and the LET have to look at a number of sources and if fan sites are one of those then so be it. The information you are posting is being put in the public domain for all to read, don't be so surprised that it finds its way into other arenas.
imarover Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 have seen some forums where you can't read them until you beome a member. So rather than locking particular threads maybe locking down the whole forum could work. Of course, none of these suggestions would work if the mole is a regular poster.
rovers1993 Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 nicko any news on shearer linking with us? i would be over the moon with a ten cate manager and shearer as assistant so he could learn his trade and have a view of taking over.. wishful thinking but i would love that to happen. also nicko, can you please fill us in the santa cruz situation? any possibility of him leaving? further news on bentley? cheers!
