One slight problem...fit Keane, Berbatov, Jenas, Dos Santos, Modric and Bent into a team for me? Overstacked in some areas, horribly weak in others. They'll be damn good on FM next season though...

Why it it when Spurs who conceed as many goals as they score look towards new signings they don't look to strengthen their obvious weakness. Instead they end up buying more attacking players?

They go by the mantra of "it doesn't matter how many goals we conceed" lets just try and score more than them.

err... probably not. You talk as though you speak on behalf of all rovers fans.

Most rovers fans I know have shearer as their first choice (work, friends, family etc) for right or wrong reasons. He was by far and away the most popular in the poll by lancs evening telgraph.

There is a facebook group "shearer for rovers manager" in which approaching a 1000 rovers fans have signed up to in the last 2 days. I appreciate this will mean nothing to some on here, perhaps a trivial point even, but I make the point to show the level of support for shearer.

The only place I have encountered anti-shearer views are on this message board.

Get shearer in, get the town buzzing again.

And then watch us go down.

Shearer was top choice in a poll of almost non-runners.

We aren't Newcastle and this isn't a Hollywood film. Surely we need a proven manager not a MOTD pundit, who quite frankly comes across as a bit daft.

Fully agree with you on Ten Cate nicko but can't for the life of me see why a knowledgable football man like yourself would like to see Shearer at Rovers.

Cos he's a McDingle, just like he wanted him for England, being a Scot and all. :D

indeed... am i the only one who finds shearer regurgitation of the other pundits opinions just a little annoying?

Berbatov will go, Bent can sit on the bench and Jenas is in midfield.

And I still think they will sign another striker.

You can't have enough good players.

Just trawled this thread after an excellent lunch meeting.

Glad to see ten Cate is apparently still a runner.

What I really like about having him as a runner is that it sets the winning mark for the job very high indeed. Let's see if Shearer can bother himself to try to be good enough to beat him- I doubt he'll try to be honest.

You can if they all think they should be playing and the manager has to rotate his squad constantly to keep them all happy ala Liverpool. Last year Spurs arguable had too many good strikers....

...too many cooks and all that nicko

I think he'd be a disaster.

We'd have no players who wanted to stay at the club within a week of him joining.

Why would he? He has coached at some of the best clubs in the world. If he is a contender then it shows how high the Rovers job is valued. :brfcsmilie:

How many players have left clubs because of him? Again no sarcasm. It's just that despite knowing he was at Chelsea i know absolutely nothing about him

Would disagree with that. Liverpool needed more good players last year. The rotation thing is purley Rafa's pet love, nothing to do with having too many good players . In fact I would go so far as to say that if he had another good striker to rotate in instead of Voranin(sp) then they would have had a better season.

This guy has to be the No 1 candidate. He CV is head and shoulders above the others. For all those saying shearer could attract big names....waht about this guy!!

Im all for it, i just hope JW gets his finger out and we dont lose out to Panathanikos!

Henk Ten Cate's Blue n White Army! (HIS NAME FITS THE SONG!! ITS DESTINY!)

Must make sure the Henk Ten is sung - if not it would sound like Katies blue n white army!!!!!!!!!! just a thought to consider

Modric is a midfielder too though and they have a host of others. You can't have too many good players, but it sometimes is impossible to keep everyone happy and then you have problems. Even a team like Man United don't simply stockpile players. A lot of their squad is made up with players who can simply do their job and come on and perform within the unit, not players who would expect to be an integral part of the unit. You need about 15/16 players who could all justify being in the first 11, then about 10 more who know that realistically their role is as a back-up, but they are quite capable of not letting the team down and putting in a good performance once in a while. If you put together 25 players who expect to be on the pitch every Saturday then you will be in trouble.

Ten Cate sounded fantastic when I first read his name here, but take a look at his work with Ajax. As a head coach he didn't win anything with them, and made some really weird signings of past-it Spaniards (Urzaiz, Gabri and Luque!). A good assistant manager and a dodgy head manager, anyone else getting those Brian Kidd vibes?

Ten Cate does sound like a shouter which I dont like. While I dont think I would like him as our manager I do think he might have the 'pull' that would entice some players.

When have you seen him shout at either Chelsea or Barca? I seem to recall him sitting on the bench and being thoughtful.

I think he was also the guy who kicked Mourinho up the ass when he tried it on in the Barca v Chelsea tunnel trouble a couple of years ago.

Sounds good to me.

Wasn't Sparky animated on the touchline or do we not talk about him any more?

I'm a bit confused. I think everyone here is calling him a bit of a shouter and a bawler because you described him as such a couple of days before he was sacked?
