PAFELL Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 What ten Cate's candidature gives us: 1) Innoculation against BFS and Mary Poppins if the Board decide they need a been round the block more experienced head this time. Cannot see either Allardyce or Mclaren getting the nod over ten Cate. 2) I remember Ajax being devastated when he left for Chelsea- they thought the world of him. It is also true that Barca suffered when Rijkaard was left to run things without ten Cate. 3) He puts very recent CL coaching and scouting knowledge on the table- if anyone knows of CL-quality players in our price bracket, he must do. 4) The fact he made himself available to Rovers means he must have liked what he saw at Ewood when preparing Chelsea to play against us. It is no secret that last season too many key Rovers players performed too far below their best to be acceptable which if he's a decent coach he will be enthused about sorting it out. HTC raises the bar for all the others and that is 100% a good thing, irrespective of whether he gets the job or not. He would be a good candidate for Rovers to pursue - but how do we know he is interested in the job? Has he said so - anything in the media - Could Rovers afford his wages?

Martin Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 When you consider the possibilities Ten Cate is by far and away the best candidate. Unless somebody crops up from nowhere he has my vote. Previously I had hoped for Big Fat Sam, but now I'm not so sure.
brfc_jonesy Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 if we get HTC i'd be the happiest man in the world, especially with some of the cheesy foreskins we've been linked to, i.e mclown!!!
Hi Mack Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 if we get HTC i'd be the happiest man in the world, especially with some of the cheesy foreskins we've been linked to, i.e mclown!!! mmmmmmmmmmmmm cheesey foreskins
AndyC Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Just wondering how much 'pull' Sam Allardyce would have with Roque and Bentley? Can't see them being wildly enthusiastic about it. he bought campo to the club. he bought anelka to the club. he's good enough to pull in the top players
Hi Mack Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Nicko' just seen on another board about Ten Cate, OK OK whos TimeLord35 on a diffrent rovers site............own up
Hasta Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 The only reason that this thread is attracting attention is because it's primary topic at the moment is something that people can (and do) bet on. Where cash is involved you obviously attract allsorts. Before anyone asks yes I am a member of the Betfair forum and no it isn't me.

nicko Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 On Henk Ten Cate and possible confusion about his gruff ways. I was referring to the fact that he was the 'bad cop' at Chelsea where it had caused problems because of their peculiar make-up. This effectively ruled him out of the race for that job because that counts at Stamford Bridge. The fact he was part of the Grant regime and would have had to step up was also against him. I was describing reasons why Chelsea would overlook him, which proved to be correct. I don't think it makes him a bad choice for Rovers. In fact, it is the opposite. His very positive qualities of being able to work with slightly 'lesser players' and also having the name to attract players makes him ideal for me. I was looking at his qualities from two perspectives. You can be a perfect fit somewhere and a wrong shape for somewhere else. Plus, Chelsea have the world to scour through for their perfect choice. Rovers don't.
brfc_jonesy Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Please jonesy..I'm just having acup of tea and cake!!! lol sorry mate! i hope it wasn't cheesecake
rog of the rovers Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 With Williams saying that Rovers are in no hurry to sign a new manager, I suspect the club to just let things stew for a bit, and assess the candidates in a week or so with a new manager appointed at either the end of June or beginning of July.
roversmum Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 he bought campo to the club. he bought anelka to the club. he's good enough to pull in the top players You're having a laugh. He whom Souey once said should be wearing a red nose and baggy bright coloured trousers? I remember him once going though our reserve team like a knife through butter and getting a deserved red card. No thanks. Granted Anelka was a good bit of business but not a pleasant character. But the man will drag Rovers down, he is not right for the club.
Hasta Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 For his first couple of seasons Campo was class at Bolton - then age caught up with him

I would say a week to ten days. [And no clues in the 'ten' either].

We absolutely have to act this month. There's no reason why finding the new man should take longer than two weeks from the moment Hughes left.
roversmum Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 You have a point Hasta but I still cannot stomach Big Sam. I'm trying hard, honestly, but it isn't working.
Grabbi Graeme Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 On Coral website Ten Cate odds have dropped from 25/1 to 14/1 in about 30 mins
Hasta Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 We absolutely have to act this month. There's no reason why finding the new man should take longer than two weeks from the moment Hughes left. I'd much rather the club took as long as they felt they needed to appoint the right man than make a rush decision and employ an idiot. We are also lucky that we don't need to 'absolutely act this month. This has happened at the best time it possibly could for us. We could easily now wait until mid-July to appoint and still have time for a manager to get to know the players and buy any new ones. That's not to say that it wouldn't be preferable to appoint sooner.
RovertheHill Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Well looking at Ten Cate's wiki entry he is ALREADY linked to us on it! His recent managerial record looks a lot better than his early record
AJW Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 On Coral website Ten Cate odds have dropped from 25/1 to 14/1 in about 30 mins WAS 40/1 WHEN STORY BROKE ON HERE

But the man will drag Rovers down, he is not right for the club. If we had found anyone near as good in his 20's Hughes'd still be here cos we'd have finished in the top 5 no danger. Campo has been a top player, an absolutey class act.
Roversider Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Thought Ten Cate was off to Panathanaikos? He'd be a good choice for us if he is still available but he might fancy a bit more sun.
Billy Castell Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 NAC Breda have finished 3rd and I believe they are not traditionally in that position. Maybe their manager would be an interesting choice. Let's start a rumour..........
