Like losing a wife to another fella 10 years ago who has just kicked her out now. Would you want her back knowing that she still wants the other fella and would be off like a shot should he snap his fingers at any time in the future?

I really don't think Shearer is either clever enough or more importantly shrewd enough. We want a bloody good manager and NOT some ex player for whom we have fond memories of! It was a suprise that Colin Hendry failed so abysmally in management at lower level so just what makes so many assume that Shearer is the new Sparky? He could just as easily be the new Hendry and then we'd be history. I sincerely hope that short term sales of ST's is not a box to tick in this decision.

btw ...... Logical answers only please! The doey-eyed romantics amongst you do not need to answer.

I really can't see any logic or point in even considering Shearer for the positon of Blackburn Rovers manager. This is a prestigious position, and has attracted the attention of a fairly large selection of proven managers, so why should we even consider someone like Shearer?

OK he was a great and popular player for us once, and played a major role in Rovers getting the championship in '94/95. But what did he do the season after that? Only kicked us in the teeth by walking out on us to go and join his beloved Newcastle, which kind of showed us all exactly how much Rovers meant to him. Nobody can blame him for wanting to go and play for his hometown team, but it was the timing and the way he went about it, that to me showed his utter lack of feeling for Blackburn Rovers the club that had so recently taken him to the very top of his profession as a player.

Then since he joined Newcastle as a player and also since he became a TV pundit can anyone honestly point to even one single occasion when the subject of Blackburn Rovers has been raised with him that he has given a good report or answer that suggests he has any feelings or even respect for our club? The only vibes I feel coming from him on these occasions are barely disguised contempt!

Then of course there is the small matter of experience as a manager at any level.....absolute zero on that one. But then we all know that he would dearly love to get some experience as stepping stone to manageing his beloved Newcastle Utd, and what better way to do this than by spending a bit of time picking up some experience at another Premiership club until the next vacancy occurs at SJP i.e BRFC!! Using us again!!

It’s rather amusing to watch certain members of the clique get there knickers in a twist in regards to Nicko.

Nicko has rocked the establishment with his popularity and the fact that he is actually in the information loop rather than just pretending to be so. Im afraid some of the older posters don’t like it. Thus the subsequent snipping, gripping and moaning about Nicko, It’s simply jealously and is very very silly.

Keep up the good work nicko, without you this messageboard will die a slow painful death.

Hey steady on there Bazza ;) I guess I am probably the oldest regular poster on here, and I am most certainly NOT part of any clique, and what's more I most certainly DO like it!!

Viva Nicko or even Nicko for President! :D

Id be happy with Shearer - mainly because I think he would bring some old fans back, attract a few extra, regardless of what people say, wouldnt jump ship in 12 months and I think he could help us attract quality players, aswell as keep our current bunch very happy. I also think that due to his links across the globe through the TV work that he would have an excellent scouting network.

I understand what people say about his lack of experience but Iv just got a good feeling about this guy if he gets it.

Aye, there is NO chance that Shearer will ever be a number 2, and I doubt he would want anyone experienced with him as a number 2. He is his own man, and will do things his way.

My boss spoke to him at a dinner in London last year. He asked him if he was going to go into management. He said he wanted to go into to it, ideally in 2-3 years, and that he would like to manage any of his former teams.

He has one year more on his Beeb deal, and I suppose he would ideally like to wait until then, BUT, if an offer is to good to refuse he might take it.

Didn't he throw his hat into the ring for the Newcastle job on the Friday night, the day before Harry turned it down? I've heard people saying he turned the Newcastle job down, but I think it was more that Ashley wanted someone with experience, so he didn't get the offer.

If we offer him the job, it might be too good an opportunity to turn down, an ideal first job for him in my view.

- Good squad of players, top 10, 3 years running and most of them tied down to long term contracts.

- Funds available to improve the squad

- Club he knows

- Would seem to be the fans choice in the LET and Official forum

- Can bring all his own people in, as Sparky has taken most of the current ones to City.

I would be surprised if he turned down such an opportunity, another one like this might not come up.

If Shearer did actually turn down the Newcastle job, I presumed that it would have been more to do with his current status at the club.

At the moment he is a legend at Newcastle. If he took the Newcastle job as his first managerial role and messed it up it would damage his reputation with the fans. I only have this view from considering what I would feel like in his position. Would I rather take a risk with the club I love and support, the club were I am idolised or would I rather take the risk elsewhere?

If I was in his position I would rather keep myself viewed as 'a god' up there for a while and not risk tainting my legend image. But hey that's just me! So maybe that is why he might consider the Rovers job, even though he turned down the Newcastle one.

Each manager has their pro's and con's and I have been thinking about this over and over for the last few days. I could even think of a few negatives if we got Fergie! Hehe. I just trust JW to pick the best man for the job and i'll support whoever it is. My personal preference at the moment is Ten Cate.
