cn_barlow Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Chris Ronnie wanted Hughes to stay and be a director. The only reason the takeover talk has increased is because they have crept slowly further down the line. He wanted Hughes to be a director?

TugaysMarlboro Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Quick question Nicko, The list of candidates you gave us before, are they the final list of candidates before interviewing starts? Or are they just the ones you actually know are on the short-list. I'm guessing if needed or wanted by the Rovers board, others can be interviewed even if they aren't on the current short-list...e.g. Laudrup.
RovertheHill Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Slaven Bilic on BBC - I do like the guy - he seems to talk sense. And he looks like Nico Bellic

nicko Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Every time I see him I think of Niko Bellic. I didn't reaise the pilot off Lost was also the president of Croatia?
philipl Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Hasn't JW said the interview list will be drawn up by tomorrow evening? So at this stage, the only lists are those who have come forwards on their own initiative and expressed interest and those whom Rovers have put feelers out to and have responded positively. Is the Bentley insistance that Chelsea were interested all part of a game? There was zero expression of interest from Stamford Bridge whatsoever as far as I could see. Don't normally buy into the drog's conspiracy theories but this one could well have legs. Hughes performance in his Citeh interviews has certainly shown a very different side to his character and Bowen's comments about them planning their offski for twelve months thoroughly underlines it. At least Bentley has had the decency not to sign a new contract. As it now stands (8 June), Liverpool have not got any readies to buy Bents with and seem to have two higher priorities whom they've offered their green shield stamp collections for, Chelsea are headless for the foreseeable future and whoever comes in will be new to the EPL and presumably brought in to buy Juan Glamoroso from AC Interreal. There is likely to be one heck of a stink if Citeh move in for him, not least as such a move is quite probably going to be in bad faith to say the least and the old conspiracy theorists would have quite a bit of amo to use if they chose to. Spuds also have higher priorities but the rate that they are completing deals and working down their priority list suggests that they might get to Bentley before 31 August. I'd say its 50/50 that Bents will still be a Rover on 1 September and I fear that RSC could be the closer to the exit door as RSC is more likely to attract solid interest when the centre forward merry-go-round gets going.

That's the stage they are at, but I think they will also be aware of the personal timetables of the candidates. Only Allardyce is completely free, everyone else has some form of offer or attachment. Didn't Sky say Sam had flown back last week in a hurry for a job...total spin. Still waiting on Shearer to be quizzed by the editorially-sharp Lineker.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 The commentators of the Croatia game are talking about Bilic, his £130,000 per year wages and how much flair he has about him. He's set up Croatia really well, they never give Austria a moment alone on the ball.

Still waiting on Shearer to be quizzed by the editorially-sharp Lineker. You mean the same Lineker who still holds the play-off against us and gets hives when he has to mention our name? And laughed when we got relegated? Don't hold your breath. However, even Lineker would be an improvement on this. I'm having to watch the German commentary, and I'm only getting one word in 4-and that's usually the players names.
1864roverite Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Having had time to digest all the media speculation as well as read the views of our forum members I am not convinced that Big Al is the man to take Rovers forward. From HTC to Brolly McClaren, from BFS to Bilic, I just dont know who can be the man to inherit a solid Rovers team. My personal view would be Dick Advocaat, I have made that clear from the off, he as all the qualities for Rovers. As for Shearer, well although I have booed him on his return to Ewood, if he is to be the man for Rovers then great. The single most factor with this chaps appointment would be the backroom staff he brings with him. Rovers need some continuity on the training ground. We will need a brand new set up that includes a coach, goalie coach and we need a replacement for Hodges. Cant wait until Tuesday so come on Nicko, keep your stories coming. Your a top guy even if you do have a connection to the Mirror.
TugaysMarlboro Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 He's no mug. Has Michael Laudrup got a job somewhere? Just heard a wee rumour...NOT Rovers. Espanyol? Laudrup to Espanyol - It's in danish mind. I have an add-on for firefox and it allows me to translate foreign pages into english (obviously not very clearly) but by the jist of it the headline reads, "Michael Laudrup to Espanyol."

Iceman Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Rite now i dont care who gets the job,as long as the guy gets the job done and takes us forward.but i want this to be over and done with.we were so quick to let Hughes go,yet we cant find a suitable replacement quick enough.does this mean, rovers were NOT prepared for this, and are scrambling now.
Jan Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Turn the sound off and get radio five live commentary through your pc. You can only get that in the UK

I think the replacement process is going very smoothly. The manager's departure was a shock because non-one thought he actually wanted to go to Mad City. But I do think they reckoned he would go one day and probably soon. But you can never have a list ready to find a replacement - you just have to draw up the names of those available at the time.
jonv Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 if your in Australia you can listen to every game live on SBS radio. the downside is mcclown is commentating.. how can he call the croatia game is freaking me off

You can't do anything solid until your manager leaves. Hughes only left a couple of days ago and Rovers have presumably been doing a lot more than we see.
artemorethanlabore Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Actually the article is about espanyols promotion of the assistant Bartolome Marquez to the position of manager. The headline translates as "Espanyol won't select Michael Laudrup"
TugaysMarlboro Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 epic reporting there travvylad. Well there's one career path I won't be taking.
Iceman Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Nicko what im trying to say is,that the same principle should apply when selling a player imo.if hughes had to sell a player,he would have 1st havd wanted a replacdment, before allowing the player to leave.i think the board played it wrong,by allowing Hughes to go without some sort of coach lined up that was available.if they wanted fat sam, mcclown, ten cate etc,and those 3 are on tomorrows shortlist, then i would be very disappointed.2 out of those 3 have been out of work for quite sum time now.just my opinion, that jw and the board played it wrong.

There are some things that you can't control - and that definitely includes another club coming in for your manager. I would be pretty happy with the progress on this. It is probably the best field you have ever had for naming a boss.
Iceman Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Nicko i assume you can sense, that im stil disappointed by hughes departure, more so because he went to City of all teams.but iceman u wil get over it,when rovers announce houllier as coach.aint that right nicko lol
