I cant understand why people want alan shearer when proven managers have applied?

Looking at the list of candidates I would be happy with most of them but as a fan who's head is clouded with sentiment and memories of Shearer leading us to glory in 95 I would love it if big Al got the job.

Luckily John Williams is no mug, he will speak to Shearer and if he doesn't tick all the boxes then he will not get the job.

Will you still be unable to understand it when a packed and excited Blackburn are singing "There's only one Alan Shearer" at the first game of the season with the feel good factor as high as its been since the mid 90's ?

..........to be followed by the depression after he goes to the Barcodes when Keegan retires.

So it's justified??

One can be labled an 'Ass Man' yet retain dignity due to Football Managers' existence?

No - I was being facetious. I thought you of all people would spot that.

I'm coming round to the idea of Shearer.....

when he does well he will probably go straight to newcastle. otherwise its like the keegan situation its a fairy tale for the first three games until you lose them all. its a lose, lose situation IN MY OPINION.

or when we get relegated

or when shearer does a "Keegan" and buggers off to paint his bloody fence.

I'll be happy to be wrong, but I think he'll be a disaster

If you was to tell me or JW that Shearer will be so succesful that the Geordies will pinch him in 3 years would you not take it ??

That argument is similar to saying there is no point signing promising young players because we will be depressed when they move on !

I remember being at Ewood Boxing Day when I was virtually on my own cheering Shearer back on to the field when Rovers played Newcastle.

I could not believe the sound of booing which went round Ewood Park just as I am incredulous at the support for him as Manager now.

Both are just as bone-headed.

Agree! Just look at Keegan for crying out load! Every newcastle fan was over the moon when the "old hero" returned, well that did not last long now did it?! It will be a massive risk to appoint Shearer, and we can't afford making that mistake as it might well result in us going down and never return to the top flight.

For all the idiots saying; "Remember Hughes did not have a lot of expirience did he?", well NO he did not, and we got it right that time. Does that mean we should play a risky game whenever we appoint a new manager?

Im a defo yes for Shearer.

I can understand peoples reservations, but some seem willing to give up on the chance of success with Shearer on the basis that he'll be off to Toon on the back of that success. The reality is, that with any of the names mentioned success will bring with it the chance they will move on to bigger or better. Its a fact of life for us.

Now, IMO the BUZZ factor with Shearer will be greater than any of the other names mentioned. But the buzz factor if Shearer is successful will be pretty special and that swings it for me.

Truth is they are all a gamble and only time will tell if we've made the right choice. Thankfully its J.W. entrusted to make the call.

U.T.B.

Totally irrelevant to whether or not he can do the job, which is of paramount importance.

If he mucks it up, Ewood wouldn't be packed and singing his name for long.

We need a manager who can do the job. If people are that keen on Shearer, why don't we just wheel him on at half time? Or if it's all to do with PR, and managerial skills are a secondary consideration, why don't we just hire Max Clifford?

Bear in mind when Sky did that interview...BEFORE the board meeting.

He's not going to say what the plans are or who is on the list BEFORE that.

Keep the head.

That increases the significance of JW saying he is not going to Austria to see Shearer then.

The BBC's Euro08 coverage is not ending within the fortnight so Shearer is in a bigger pickle than Bilic even if he wants the Rovers job.

Only so much can be done over a video-link and are the BBC going to facilitate Shearer interviewing for another job?

To be honest, if JW is keen on Shearer and he wants the job then him being in Austria will be of no importance what so ever.

If shearer could do as Hughes has and give us reasonable success for a few years before going north, yes I'd take that and I'm sure most Rovers' fans would. It's not the leaving that would bother me. It's the fact that Shearer has no record of management at any level, and he's not my hero so I'm not looking with 1995 glasses. I'm looking completely coldly at this and I want a hungry manager who'll work hard for the club, preferably with a point to prove and a career to advance. If he goes in a year or two it will be as we said of Mark Hughes " He must have done a good job for us or why would other clubs want him?" I'd settle for that but not for someone like Shearer who has media options still if he fails at rovers.

Well, out of the candidates we know of, it's got to be either Shearer or Ten Cate for the job...

simply because Shearer seems to be wanted by Williams and because of Ten Cate's CV... the rest look in a league below... unless there are other candidates we don't know about like Laudrup.

Nicko, you checked up on the Henri Camara spotted in Hull story? ...the guy who messaged me about it isn't known for being a liar.

(anyone know what car he drives? ...because someone got a picture of it  ...so if it adds up!??)

Also was The People story about Hunt & Al Habsi by someone generally good (i.e. like yourself Alan B) ) or someone not so good (i.e. makes up cr*p and should be "writing" for the News of the World instead)?

It's by a journo called Steve Bates.

Ah well, if you're going to put it like that!

Certainly 75% of the rest seem to be ropey old scrubbers.
