The only reason we were linked to BFS, McClaren, Jewell and the like is because the media were taking the mick.

Jewell has the worst record in the Premiership with Derby and McClaren is just a buffoon.

We will get somebody very good. It will probably surprise the rag tops.

we were close to signing Mancini once

I remember James Richardson interviewing him on Gazetta - he said he like our kit! :D

Sven wanted to make Mancini his first signing for Rovers and bring him from Italy with him.

Jack Walker said no.

It was the beginning of the end of Sven taking the job...

What it is to be old and still have your memory. :D

Will you still be unable to understand it when a packed and excited Blackburn are singing "There's only one Alan Shearer" at the first game of the season with the feel good factor as high as its been since the mid 90's ?

But will they be there at the last home game of that season? Will be as excited when they are singing going down, going down?

I remember being at Ewood Boxing Day when I was virtually on my own cheering Shearer back on to the field when Rovers played Newcastle.

I could not believe the sound of booing which went round Ewood Park just as I am incredulous at the support for him as Manager now.

Both are just as bone-headed.

That's about how I wanted to say it, thanks philip.

If you judge Rovers by size and wealth of the town, we are over-achieving every season we are above the third division.

Of course I was judging it by the club and its playing squad.

Channel 4 italia pick up on the Rovers/Mancini story.

Best barometer is wages paid and I'm pretty sure we weren't 7th in that category. As for using the rose tinted views of messageboard members as a true gauge, well frankly I'm speechless.

I don't think Mancini is a possibility. He was probably on a ridiculous wage at Inter Milan, and Scudetto aside - he wasn't that popular amongst the fans (or the players, apparenty). They didn't have any real competitors for the title anyway..

He's probably looking for a job, but I doubt Rovers will give him one, and I doubt he would take it.

By the way, Jack Walker said no? Mancini was some player.

Come on , its like getting the chance to have another fling with the best bird you've ver been with, you know you shouldn't and everyone is advising you to steer well away but deep down you know that the temptaion is irresistable !

The big difference there Brownine is, with the bird, clean up is a lot easier and there aren't 20,000 people watching you.

Eh? He won it this year with both Milan and Juventus at full strength.

It was only the British tabloid press who definitely don't like Blackburn who were linking us with Allardyce and his ilk. They think it's all we deserve. We get slated for our crowds, when we get more than several other clubs about whom you never hear a word of criticism. we get slated for our dirty play when we all know that refs favour perceived bigger clubs and that our reputation has created a climate for booking our players at the first opportunity when others are given just a warning, and some of our players even get booked when they are being strangled. So of course they are going to link us with poor managers or unsuitable managers. I'm not suggesting we could get managers of the reputation that some of the candidates named have but nor do we have to stick with some of the dross the press want us to have just because of who we are. There's no harm in looking or asking provided you don't take rejection too personally and you might just get a pleasant surprise. Never asked out a girl you thought wouldn't look twice at you only to find she says "Why not?" even if it's only because she's got nothing better to do at the time?

Let's keep it real...it's Sam's mates in the media who started this ball rolling. No other agenda.

Wasn't accusing you, Nicko. But someone out there in the press is printing these stories, and they are not those with our interests at heart, I feel

No, I know you weren't, I was just clearing up where it came from. It's one or two who are in the Allardyce camp trying to push it and make him sound important. To be fair to them it's not an anti-Rovers thing.

Its true, Shearer is high profile and appears to be respected.

Mind you, was getting a bit of stick over the Steve Maclaren stories in the office today - not our fault so many managers are keen IMO.

Dont know why, but I am starting to get excited by all this.

Thanks nicko- that's jogged my old grey cells as I had forgotten all that Mancini to Rovers excitement and the James Richardson interviews.

Wouldn't think cissé would trust the ewood park pitch if the last time he played here is anything to go by. He's fast, and when I saw him play for Marseille at easter he made a difference when he came on as sub.

Well I put £10 on Henk Ten Cate at 33/1 and £5 on Shearer at 7/1, so if either of them get the job, I don't lose any money. Right now my sentimental side wants Shearer, but my head is saying Henk. I'd love them in as a team, but that wouldn't happen in a million years.
