Ewood and I Would Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Oh the sheer joy and exuberance of it all!! Alan Shearer back at Rovers; wonderful stuff. The joyous mood of the crowd will lift the players and we will win our first 3 or 4 matches and could even actually find ourselves top of the EPL come end of August. Then reality sets in...............it's were we finish in May 2009 that is the only thing that matters. Think about it!!! Missed a trick there (The "Shear" joy...), nicko does that qualify me as a headline writer?

brian_gallagher85 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Sky did one of their silly yellow trailers on it...and then put it on their website. Still, if it puts people off the trail, so be it. Doesn't stop them being amateurs. I'm getting the feeling that "Stroke Boy" will be having an interesting Transfer Deadline Day
nicko Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Nicko, going by the players getting linked with the likes of Spurs, Villa, City etc who do you think will be the best of rest next season? Also whats happening at Newcastle? Is Ashley going to splash the cash or are they really strapped for cash? No new contract for Owen, Barton either facing the sack or wage reduction, Emre, Carr and now Ameobi all out the door with question marks over the future of the likes of Smith, Duff, Milner and Rozenhal... Are they expected to make many movements in the transfer window? I like the look of Spurs, Villa will lose Barry by the looks, but Man City could be anything - it's just not a Sparky scene for me. Newcastle trying to cut costs in a big way. Big trouble ahead behind the scenes. So it's a good time to stay in the top ten for Rovers if they get their man and shake it up a bit. I felt they needed that anyway, now it's beeing done for them. Funny old game, Saint. [for older readers]
Head Rover Heels Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Dammit, i officially qualify as an older reader
broadsword Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Yeah, we lost our manager more or less at his sell-by date and got mega-wonga for him. Last time we sacked a manager was ... hmm we got promoted May 2001, souness was appointed Mar or April 2000, Tony was in charge before then but I think he walked rather than get sacked, and he was in charge for a while. so I'd guess the last sacking was in the last millennium, not bad.

broadsword Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Those pair of fools hated us. i remember the bald idiot's disparaging remarks about Steve Archibald being able to buy the club after a few weeks of being there. Saint: "a-hu-hu-hu-huhhuhuhuhuhuhuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
percy Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Could be worse! I'm 27 and remember that 28, so that makes me feel slightly better....just about remember those Ricky Otto years
QOTSA Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I spoke to Tim Sherwood earlier today to get his view on Shearer and he was loving it. http://setantasports.com/en/Sport/Home/?fa...britain-locale/
nicko Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Man U compaint against Real Madrid is interesting... Could it be because Real have bid the 'trigger figure' they think is in Ronaldo's contract...and that is why they bid 80 million euros. If he has I wonder who told them?

Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Hey Nicko, any news on what the hell is going on at Southampton regarding their new manager Jan Poortvliet and whether he's officially joined or not after the compensation fiasco with his former club? Looks like Shearer is laying into some of the French attackers more than he normally would....maybe this is because a) he is showing what he's all about or b ) he just hates the French
bringdunnback Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Nicko, have you any news from the board meeting today, what candidates were identified and who were ruled out. Also do you have any of the names on the 40 man list, ones we can laugh off.
LightcliffeClaret Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Nicko, two questions: Any idea on the latest with Lafferty, and what's the latest on the Chelsea job, seems to have gone very quiet? Cheers!

dj54nna Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I did hear some of the names among this '40' and, trust me, I wasn't laughing. You tease.
nicko Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Nicko, two questions: Any idea on the latest with Lafferty, and what's the latest on the Chelsea job, seems to have gone very quiet? Cheers! Wolves have offered money plus two players - Elliott and Potter. It might go through if they raise the cash, which is currently about £2.25 million. As for Chelsea...if they knew themselves then the rest of us might get to learn.
nicko Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 You tease. I don't want to darken the mood...let's just leave it at the short-list that we think we know about rather than scratch our head in wonder at a couple of names who have been seriously discussed.
Mc Love Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Maybe some people just like to moan. Maybe they are irish
