nicko Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I am picking up worrying rumours that there are some people on the board who would rather go for the cheap and hungry option...so frankly I don't know what way this will work out now. Puzzled.

Puzzled. Well that surely rules out Fat Sam with his 32 strong entourage? If what you say is true about them looking for the cheapest option that is worrying.
Hughesy Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Cheap & Hungry being shearer, ince, allardyce, mcclaren??? Heard that Dowie applied too - stay clear of him
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Cheap and hungry would be Paul Ince I guess?
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Cheap and hungry would be Paul Ince I guess? I hope not i don't think he is up to it.
Blue n White Rover Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Just out of interest who has the final say on who will be the next manager...would that be JW himself or do the board have a vote on it?
Hughesy Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Id say it would be surely a vote by the board? Nicko - do you know who made the shortlist and when we will start approaching people for talks??
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I'd rather we used the cash from the Hughes/staff transfer on appointing a quality candidiate with a decent backroom staff rather than going for the cheapest option and giving an increase in the transfer budget. Though saying that for all i know the manager may have not got any of the cash, i wouldn't put it past some of the trustees.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Cheap and hungry is bound to be Steve McClaren. He really wants to get back into the game, he's an ex-England manager so has a pretty big reputation (whether successful or not), he's not with anyone so no compensation will go to anyone and he's known to help develop the youngsters in the team. The academy being something the Blackburn board are very proud of. If he can blag his way into the England hot seat then unfortunately I think they've found their man.
BrianPotter Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 We've just got £5m in compensation for Hughes and we're looking at the cheap option! Unbelievable!! You would think the board, who are supposed to have the clubs best interests in mind would realise just how important it is to get this appointment right, and also send out the right message about the clubs ambition. If this is true, its no wonder Sparky upped and left.
nicko Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I'm trying to piece this together on the hoof, so to speak. I do know there are a couple of surprise names being mentioned, both are in the up-and-coming category. These are two names APART from Paul Ince. What I don't know is whether they have a chance or not. But for the two names to come to me from two different sources does interest me. I've also got to say that some of the bigger names on the list have not had their invites yet, so it's possible the board are still debating how to play this. As for who decides, that is another story...which we will only discover in the coming days. This is a surprise twist but - as yet - not a major change. So, no panic please.

Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Funny old game, Saint. [for older readers] Lost all respect for Saint & Greavsie when we beat Leicester in the play offs. Greavsie sat there spouting off about how Leicester were a big club and deserved to be in the innaugral Premiership - we weren't worthy blah bla blah.........would loved to have seen his face 3 years later Funny how 17 years on and we still hear the same things!

Keith Hill  seriously Aidy Boothroyd and Gary Johnson my guess
nicko Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Candidate Y - HAS applied and has been considered. Premier League experience, young, loud-ish, shocking football. Candidate Z - is really novel, no Prem experience but may be a top boss in the future. Just a shock to hear he has had a mention. No, it's not Coyley...
Mc Love Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 even though i already put a bet on, Nicko, have you have any tips?
Alex Rover Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Candidate Y - HAS applied and has been considered. Premier League experience, young, loud-ish, shocking football.Stuart Pearce
Wiggy Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 It was only the British tabloid press who definitely don't like Blackburn who were linking us with Allardyce and his ilk. They think it's all we deserve. We get slated for our crowds, when we get more than several other clubs about whom you never hear a word of criticism. I don't think we should underestimate Rovers pulling power .We play in the richest club competition in the world as regards TV money and if we were to play in the so called El Dorado of Serie A we would have the eighth biggest crowds...Italian Attendances. We've been knocked into submission by some ignorant journalists, in reality, we're a pretty big player on the world football scene.
