Spanish and used to play for Wigan I think.

He was an absolute hero for Wigan - I remember when they signed the headlines were all about Pie-ella, and the entire crowd used to turn up in sombreros, waving straw donkeys.

When the "three Amigos" signed it was the first major influx of foreign players that they'd come across, and any Wigganer over the age of 25 will probably remember it well - He was a great player, and has all the makings of a superb manager - He was incredibly skillful, but more importantly an intelligent footballer - It's just a question of whether it's a step too far just yet. I honestly think he'll go a long way in his managerial career, but then i've been wrong more times than i've been right.

What type of football doews Martinez play.

Passing game, on the floor, as you'd expect from a continental manager.

He looks a good manager to me, the fact he's taken Swansea up to the Championship for the first time in an age means he must have something about him.

Good eye for players, plays good football, had success on a limited budget - can't understand why he's getting a bad press on here? His achievement are greater than Ince for example and he's well supported.

Having said that, he wouldn't be my choice, it's come too early for him - could be a top manager in the future though.

I understand that Chris Ronnie and his team have asked for this 'period of exclusivity' which lets them look through the books and decide whether to make an offer or not - and obviously what exact level to pitch it at.

There is some frustration on their side as they have not had some vital info from the club, but it may come at any time.

There should also be confidentiality letters signed soon, so it might become hard to find out what exactly is happening.

I have heard a bit of propaganda being put around behind the scenes against Ronnie - and I wonder what the motives are for this.

I thought the club was looking for a buyer, but it seems some are not quite as keen to let go of power.

This has suddenly become a crucial time in your club's history - not just deciding a boss, but a future path.

On the boss front I think there will be approaches made today, but they will try to keep it as quiet as possible.

Still, it makes it more fun finding out...

That's our nicko.

Do you agree with them 10 points?

If so do the managers that have been mentioned, such as Ten Cate, Martinez, Laudrup etc tick the relevant boxes?

I would agree with most of those points.

Mind you, many of them need more money than Rovers currently have.

I think the calculator will be going along in the pocket for most of the interviews.

Order of preference:

1. Laudrup

2. Bilic

3. Shearer

4. Zico

5. Ten Cate

None of the diddy candidates please (i.e. Allardyce, Martinez, Ince, Boothroyd, McClaren). We need someone who will command respect, both within the club and within the world of football. This is Blackburn's most important appointment of the past 10 years - it's about either keeping on competing or settling for mediocrity.

Don't get me wrong - I trust John Williams; but Im not sure about the others. Rumours of even one solitary board member veering towards the "cheap" option is tremendously worrying, especially after a £4.6m compensation package.

Please be ambitious...

Why does the old saying about 'not expecting turkeys to vote for Christmas' keep coming into my head whenever there is takeover interest in the air?

Are you suggesting there is some form of "self preservation" going on?

From that link, point number one and to me the most important:-

1) The pulling power to attract players - If Rovers are to continue enticing players of the calibre of Roque Santa Cruz, then they must appoint a big name' manager, who not only carries clout in England, but the rest of the world.

My views on the subject:

I am leaning heavily towards Shearer for the following reasons:

He is a leader, always hungry to win – should have a positive effect on the team he puts out onto the pitch (well-drilled and motivated)

High profile name which should help us keeping our better players, and attracting new ones – this is important for a club like us in this ultra competitive league (to gain any competitive advantage we can get).

Knowledge of the game should be excellent through his work on the TV – obviously up to scratch on the Premiership, which also means he will know our players, other teams, tatical trends etc.

I could see a slight increase in season ticket sales which would obviously be a positive, as so important to us, as had some recent success in this respect.

Shearer closest to ticking most of those boxes....

I am not thinking so, if one is serious. Many are a little unknown and our opinion only the only real solid ticks for me are 3 an 5 the rest ???. Does Shearer REALLY command respect or do we just THINK he MIGHT cos of his playing career. By some accounts the man is a proper plonker and dis liked by many players.

I suppose if you want Shearer you can make an argument for him, if you don't you can make on against him.

** standing ovation **

Well said Nicko.

We're the people who could be forced to watch god-knows-how-many years of Allardyce's footballing "style".

Allardyce would get the supporters on his back quicker than anyone else in the game. Anyone! He and his long-ball, long-throw tedium wouldn't survive the first slump in form.
