Hughes' record in charge of Wales comprised six wins from 26 competitive matches. He failed to win any of his last 10 matches prior to joining Rovers.

He turned out okay though, didn't he...?

The fact that ANYONE (Rovers fan or not) would even contemplate McClaren or Allardyce ahead of Shearer is downright terrifying.

Most Newcastle fans put the clubs turn around when Souness left down to Shearer, he took over as assistant manager and even though Roeder was the manager most believe that it was Shearer pulling the strings behind the scenes as none of the players really had any respect for Roeder, once he left Roeder couldn't control anyone.

On top of that it was Shearer's standing in the game that attracted players to the club, both Michael Owen and Scott Parker said it was Shearer who convinced them to come to us and Woodgate's dad even came out and said he'd have come to us over Spurs if Shearer had been involved with the club, even the likes of Berbatov have said they came to the Premiership because Shearer was their hero growing up, I don't think some people realise what a big draw he is for some players who grew up knowing him to be one of the best strikers in the World.

You've got the choice of taking a risk on someone who could be quality like Shearer or going for an average manager like fat Sam or Mike Barlow, I know which I'd take.

Most convincing argument I've heard for Shearer yet. Does make me feel better about the possibility of him getting the job, but there are a couple of names I'd still take over him.

Rest assured, those do not include BFS or McClaren.

Or how about appointing a proven top drawer manager like Henk ten Cate (or Dick Advocaat if he's interested)?

Hughes has left us in such a strong position that we have quality managers apparently clamouring for the job. We may never be in this position again. We don't need to take a risk with Shearer (and it's a big risk) - let him cut his managerial teeth elsewhere.

Isn't Downing, Wheather and Adam Johnson a result from the very good work Mcclaren did with the youngsters in Boro?

I would love a manager who was able to bring in young local lads and play them.

I think Derbyshire, Olsson, Treacy, Nolan all deserve more playing time.

In that case you possible prefer Shearer as the manager and Mcclaren as the assistant manager working with the youngsters. I think people have also forgotton Tugay and his 'possible' coaching role he has been offered.

I would be happy with Shearer and Henk ten cate. the former to help boost the club and the latter to support Shearer - who would then ' hopefully takeover when Shearer goes to the baracodes.

I can't see Henk ten Cate being happy with an assitant role at Rovers. I'm guessing Chelsea paid big money to tempt him into one with them from a full manager's role at Ajax.

Happy? I'd be delirious with that.

I'd also (if they'd go for it) quite happily settle for McClaren working as number 2 to Shearer.

I've been at school today so can anyone fill me in on whats happened in regards to Blackburn! Thanks!

Do your maths, when you went to school this morning Rovers had Zero manager, when you came home Rovers had Zero manager so 0 + 0 = 0

Quite frankly you missed nothing <_<

Not guilty I'm afraid Azuri. :rover:

.....But as everybody knows on here, it really is impossible to argue employing just logic and common sense against his suggested way forward.

Sorry to have to disagree with you there Theno. Logic and commonn sense including knowledge of Lancashire folk tells me that if Lancashire Utd ever comes into existence with a 70,000 stadium somewhere in central Lancashire, this new stadium will be inhabited by a population of approx 90% corporate and glory hunting hangers-on just like Man U are.

Why do I think this? Simply because logic and common sense tells me that the real football fans of clubs like Blackpool, PNE, Rovers, Accy Stanley, Burnley, Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, and Bury are NEVER EVER going to turn their backs on their respective clubs to support some new upstart team with no history and no roots; even if Lancashire Utd is top of the Prem and dominating the (then) big 5. A tiny percentage only will do so as glory hunters always do, but that is all it will be.

Sorry to diss your dream team, but there it is!

So what is rover6 doing taking the michael out of shearer's comments about Spain in the Euro08 thread then?

No idea, but he wasn't in the opening sequences I saw. Linekar, with panel of Hanson, Lee Dixon and Gordon Strachan.

Did go off to get tea after my post but he definitely wasn't there at the start.

Edit: Not there at half time, I thank you. The comment quoted by R6 must have been made at an earlier time.
