Heh, I have some lingering respect for BFS, he did after all manage Limerick FC in the past! But his style of football at Bolton didn't impress me, although he managed mostly decent performance and some excellent signings, and was able to keep some fairly big egos in line.

The Board have shown a remarkable propensity for British managers in the past (something I can respect) which no doubt helps things like integrations. The only one mentioned in the (alleged) shortlist who might have settling in problems is Laudrup (I've no idea about his level of English, for instance, or what kind of time-frame he has in mind if the reports of clauses for Panathinaikos were accurate).

If the board decide to take a gamble, though, I've said already that Martinez would be far and away my personal choice, I really feel there's something about him and that he will be a top manager in future. That said, I'd be interested in who Shearer brings with him - I've great respect for what Newell achieved before he had his team sold out from under him in his last appointment and would be interested to see how he does here (but for god's sake, no talking to the press, Mike!).

nicko, I think those were probably the ones who survived into a second round of meetings.

Advocaat was interviewed as was Coppell I believe. Wasn't there also a bit of mucking around over whether Venables would or would not be interviewed?

I'm not bothered about being personally fond of the manager. I didn't much like Souness and I wasn't that fond of Mark Hughes but this is different. I just feel that in every way he is the exact opposite of what I want to see managing my club (don't bother spouting the safe pair of hands, experience of managing our kind of club etc because I've heard it all, tried to believe it and still can't) and I'm having great difficulty in understanding how our board can think that this guy is the best option to replace Mark Hughes. We may not be able to attract the top guys but I can't believe there's not better who have expressed an interest in the job. If we end up with him, I'm sorry but I really can't give him the benefit of the doubt. I shall miss attending rovers games but will not be there, and I'm sure many of the walk on fans won't turn up either. My house will never have been as clean as I'll have all those weekends free tocatch up with the housework

You won't be the only one gumboots, the majority of fans clearly don't want him either.

If the board start moaning about a drop in attendance figures or a drop in season ticket applications they only have themselves to blame. Something i could quite easilly see if the BFS Sam takes over.

I think the four who will be interviewed are...Shearer, Allardyce, Ince and Martinez. NOT McClaren I understand.

I think the standby two are Ten Cate and possibly Laudrup, who may be out of range for talks just now.

Jaysus i have never been so underwhelmed in all my life.

Would still like to see Ten Cate...but from the list...the only one i would say is Allardyce.

So Nicko, do you still have your money in your wallet??

Thanks to the Swedes I have a little more in my pocket...

Think Rovers job chase has a few twists and turns yet. It's not a straightforward one.

I believe Chelsea want an answer from Aneclotti tomorrow...and it is likely to be no.

Oh dear, what a shame.

Same here ...

I hate the Greeks. I think they won't gain a single point this Euro Championship.

It's a strange tournament. Hopefully it will get better as teams have to chase results to stay in the competition.

How many old players are there? There are guys out here who are well into their 30s.

Where's the new blood?

I am quite surprised by the lack of respect some people (on here) seem to think Shearer has within the game.

Ask most Newcastle fans, he attracted people to their club because of who he was.

I have been getting contacted by a lot of people all this week, saying what do you think of Shearer maybe becoming your new manager. Even people who do not know that much about football. The reason why, Shearer was one of the best strikers this country has ever seen within the last 20 years.

I think because he left here in possibly not the best circumstances, it taints some of our fans view of him. I am not saying this is the reason why Shearer should be our next manager, but just to make the point he would be a big profile appointment (not the be all and end all I know).

The same can be said about France and Italy, though.

I hate Sweden, and I would have loved it if Greece were to nick a win, but that's obviously completely out of the question now.

I think Spain, Netherlands and France showed new blood.

Fabregas, Villa, Torres, Benzema, Engelaar, Gomis, David Silva

all of them quite young players.

agree, the way holland played last night they may be worth a tenner
