I hate Sweden, and I would have loved it if Greece were to nick a win, but that's obviously completely out of the question now.

Seriously?

I know it's our neighbours mostly famous for bringing their STD's, but you can't hope a team who ruined a whole championship will win?

I think Spain, Netherlands and France showed new blood.

Fabregas, Villa, Torres, Benzema, Engelaar, Gomis, David Silva

all of them quite young players.

Benzema was a letdown, Gomis looked like he had won Jim'll Fix It and got to be a footballer for a day. Engelaar is the stand-out.

Spain have some good players but Torres, Silva and Villa have been around a while.

I meant 'new' in terms of people you haven't seen much of before and who are impressing.

agree, the way holland played last night they may be worth a tenner

I liked Holland but they are an old side...van der Sar, Ooijer, van Brockhorst, van Nistelrooy. I wonder how their old legs will feel in four games time...

the language will not be a problem for scandivaians, and maybe laudrup os good enough. berg could get us some super talents from africa. he have taken a lot of good ones to FC Lyn. (most importantly Mikel). however i would prefer Allardyce. He IS a great manager. i remember thinking "dammit. why dont he manage rovers?" when i saw how well bolton did under him. He is hungry for silverware, and wants the job. also he know exactly what this is about. ten cate/grant is used to pointing at players and get them no matter who they are. as rovers boss you have to be very very patient and turn every stone to find a suited player. i couldnt care less if sam sports a "boring" style of play as long as blackburn are successfull. I remember the Egil Olsen era in norway, and it was the most fun we have ever had over here. it was far from beautiful, but it was deadly, and kept our team very high on the FIFA ranking. Rehagel won the euros with greece! was the play wonderful? like watching man utd or barcelona? no way, but i think the fans had the time of their lives. Chelsea dont play sexy either, but if i was a fan i would have a blast.

people will come watch the games if we win games and compete among the top six or even top ten. bottom ten is not fun no matter how sexy football we play.

thats my opinion on sam.

now we might get the takeover this summer. if that happens, then the picture is different. as much is i have no idea how hughes will do at city, there is no gurantee that sam will fit in a rich club. they might splash cash on fancy names rather than talent. For that job maybe Shearer (with a massive backroom staff) is the best choice. or ten cate, or advocaat.

its a gamble no matter what, but with the players we got it should not be a problem to keep us safe at least. if we dont get extra cash from new owners i will go for sam. he will stay for a long while, but if we get money i have virtually no opinion because it will be a massive change, and i dont know how to respond to it.

You won't be the only one gumboots, the majority of fans clearly don't want him either.

If the board start moaning about a drop in attendance figures or a drop in season ticket applications they only have themselves to blame. Something i could quite easilly see if the BFS Sam takes over.

If it is BFS then my 2 ST's are going back.................you can stuff the walk-on as well.

I've watched Rovers for over 40 years and spent £K's, many many £K's, that useless lump of lard will be the end for me.

Nicko is correct, in that their dosen't appear to much young talent been blooded. Although Aissati/ Afellay? looked realy good when he come on for the Dutch. oh and Moutinho & Velouso for Portugal

Seitaridis had a horror show.

Gomis had no touch, was slow, and was clumsy.

Let's hope if they sign for clubs they do a lot better.

Anyway, I heard Chimbonda can be got for 2m, that's his agent though and agents aren't reliable, (I believe Gareth Barry's though sadly), for 2m I'd just take him. We're desperate, but worth a look for Blackburn as well surely.

I think there's quite a lot of 'new' in this championship, but we haven't seem them so far.

I think we will get to know gomis, benzema, kazim kazim, moutinho, veloso, engelaar, huntelaar and Samir Nasri.

Just put £40 on Martinez becoming our next manager - it will never happen, but if it does, £900 for being completely uninspired.

He is hardly going to be the man, as JW said, to take us forward - but you never know!

I've had once since my teens and for the first time I would not renew for Allardyce.

Working in Bolton as well as having The Hordens I have a deep seated hatred of the man, only surpassed for Steve McLaren.

As for Alan Shearer, if he comes back, I might get some old pictures of the great man out and stick them on the pub wall !

" There's only one Alan Shearer ..........

Fulham have put in a 2 million pound bid for Chimbonda.

Sorry. Supporting BFS is like voting for John Prescott.

Another surprisingly fickle fan crawling out of the woodwork to reveal himself. Support the team, not the manager.

I'm sure if we bid he'd be ours, but then I wouldn't want to rush O'Neill into building a squad that's big enough....god forbid! Best leave it until the last week...again.

Chimbonda is great going forward but I think his concentration suffers defensively and he's got a bit of an attitude. Can't grumble at £2mill for a decent proven Premier League player though

Firstly, glad to see some sensible and loyal posts in this thread. Why is there so many people having kittens over a hypothetical managerial appointment?

I can't say that I'm impressed with threats of returning season tickets, never going on Ewood again .... etc. Surely being a Blue and White runs a little deeper than that.

Personally I'm happy to trust the selection process at the Rovers and I'm certain that there will be a measured and intelligent choice based on a bag more facts and evidence than we have available to us. A lot will depend on the whole package, assistants, interviews and most of all plans for the future on how the individual proposes to go forward.

Anyway, keep smiling it will be all over by this time next week and we will know whose name we will be inserting into "???? Blue'n White Army". Hopefully they will get someone with a name that can fit a chant! - bet they haven't got that in the selection criteria.

Finally thank heavens the Swedes did for the Greeks, how negative was that for a team who are the holders?

I am quite surprised by the lack of respect some people (on here) seem to think Shearer has within the game.

Ask most Newcastle fans, he attracted people to their club because of who he was.

I have been getting contacted by a lot of people all this week, saying what do you think of Shearer maybe becoming your new manager. Even people who do not know that much about football. The reason why, Shearer was one of the best strikers this country has ever seen within the last 20 years.

I think because he left here in possibly not the best circumstances, it taints some of our fans view of him. I am not saying this is the reason why Shearer should be our next manager, but just to make the point he would be a big profile appointment (not the be all and end all I know).

This argument simply does not work. Hell I'm a Shearer fan, I don't hold one ounce of malice towards him for leaving, he left to join the club he supported as a boy.

But:

1. Your thinking of Shearer attracting the best players only is revelant until the end of August. If after that we perform poorly in the league due to having an inexperienced manager, I guarantee you none of those players will want to join our club.

2. The main limiting factor to us attracting top names isn't because of our manager's fame or lack of, it's the amount of money we have.

3. Players were attracted by Shearer as they wanted to play in the same team as him - he had a proven record of scoring goals. He does not have a proven record of being a good manager.

4. Bobby Charlton was one of the best players we've ever had, look how his managerial career turned out. Alan Ball, World Cup winner. Look at Jose Mourinho, Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Phil Scolari, Guus Hiddink - very average playing careers. Shearer being a brilliant player does not count one bit.

Sorry, but I cant believe what I am reading here. No to Sam A … but yes to Martinez & Gary Johnson. Who have never managed in the top flight, haven’t played in the premiership and have never dealt with big name players and the whole zoo that follows them.

Its this easy, stop up- playing supposed boring football and consolidate in the top ten. Or appoint on inexperienced cheaper nobody and possibly get relegated.

Agree with you in principle but I would want to see Gary Johnson being given a go, he's got experience and has done well at every level so far, he's definitely earned his chance.

Martinez on the other hand is a novice who has done well for a season and a half in League Two. Madness.
