philipl Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Perhaps this "news" that Sherarer is dithering about whether he wants football management is moving the market.

Hasta Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 It looks like one bet of £75 then a few smaller ones after trying to latch on. He'll be about 12/1 again by morning.
Mozzer Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 we either have to appoint alan shearer or henk ten cate-if theres any managers who will attract players to the club and keep our best players its either of those.. henk ten cate only on standby tho-whys thats?
nicko Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I think the Betfair Blips are down to people hearing they are candidates and pals having a few bob on them. Allardyce, Shearer and Ince all went through phases like that today. I think I got those three candidates right. Maybe Ten Cate got the call tonight, after all he is in Barbados where it's late afternoon because of the five hours difference - maybe the old Dutchman logged on between ciggies and bacardis and coke down by the pool.
nicko Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Perhaps this "news" that Sherarer is dithering about whether he wants football management is moving the market. Someone was putting that story round on Monday...I made sure the Mirror didn't use it. Sounds to me like somebody playing games. Shearer is interested in speaking to Rovers and the feeling is mutual.
Hi Mack Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Nothing on odds checker yet concerning the odds shortening for HTC! I just wonder if Shearer has to think whether or not to take the job maybe hes not the right man! He should be hungry and ringin JW up begging for the job!
Hughesy Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Hughesy, the amount on offer at Panathanaikos gross is the same gross as was paid to Mark Hughes on the new contract he signed a few weeks ago. Thats my point. Hughes was proven at the top for us, he earned that money. To bring a new manager in on that top wach wage straight away doesnt seem right. Surely Hughes took a much smaller salary originally and I would think that unless previously proven elsewhere then a new manager would come in on a lower salary.
philipl Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Yes but when Hughes was appointed, Rovers' total wage bill was 30% less and the whole market for wages has gone up by more- particularly managerial wages.

I'd wager that they are the final four and that Shearer's lack of certainty about wanting the job is the reason he isnt odds on. I'd happily settle for Shearer Ince or Ten Cate, I can get used to the idea of all three, though Ince really was a nasty little sheister. Cannot even contemplate Sam 'two pies' Allardyce
Manchester Blue Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I don't understand some of the criticism of Shearer at all. Surely any sensible person realises that he perfected and played to a tee the persona of mr dull for the camera. Every report I have ever read about him has suggested he was far from that in real life and as Sherwood suggested was a leader in the dressing room. As for the savaged by a dead sheep analogy, well ask Keith Gillespie if it was like being savaged by a dead sheep when he smacked him one on a team night out. The man was a winner who fought for absolutely everything tooth and nail, I just cannot accept he wouldn't be an inspiration to the drssing room. I think in all honesty whoever we get will be a gamble Shearer as much as any but the buzz around the place would be immense even if deep down we know he'd be off like a shot given the chance. For me appointing BFS is utterly unimaginative, safe and at best would see us tread water playing the same dire football that Bolton played for years. I'm not saying I would stop going but I can fully understand why people have that view. You pay too much money these days to come along and watch games ruined by a man who has worked out that pumping long balls to the far post is statistically the best way to score goals.

Always have a quick scan at the doorstep before leaving for work !

Brownie Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Nothing startling...too much time in hotel lobbies. Good Joey Barton tale I hope. Would is be too intrusive a question to ask who or what are your sources ? By that I mean are they players ?, agents ?, backroom staff ? Just interested, for example would you have mobile numbers of one or more Rovers players ?

I believe some people in power may actually watch this forum and realise there may be some sense around. Interesting.
Brownie Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Pass. Ten Cate is being backed right down. I believe some people in power may actually watch this forum and realise there may be some sense around. Interesting. I knew you'd say that ! Reckon its becoming a three horse race between Shearer Ten Cate and Two Pies
RovertheHill Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Pass. Ten Cate is being backed right down. I believe some people in power may actually watch this forum and realise there may be some sense around. Interesting. I wonder what JW's view is about bums on seats - i.e. does he think it's an important factor in selecting the manager or does he think like some on here that grinding out 1-0's will be enough to keep the crowds?
Exiled_Rover Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I knew you'd say that ! Reckon its becoming a three horse race between Shearer Ten Cate and Two Pies He can't reveal his sources now can he. If I were speculating I'd imagine it's somebody higher up than a player or member of the coaching staff - especially when you consider the nature of some of the information.

Im torn between two!not martinez and boothroyd but shearer and HTC! both have the reputations! one experienced ones not! mmmm looking forward to what is going to come of all this!
Hughesy Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 It happened at the breezeblock and it would happen at ewood. Big Sam is good at what he does, he would keep us up and he would keep us in the top 6-10, but his style is rubbish, it isnt what fans want, and some fans will start to walk away. Justhope the club realise this if they are serious about Big Sam.

So would I, just interested whether we were talking management or agents. I know one of Matt Derbyshire's best mates, and the information he gives is worse than rover6's !

tcj_jones Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I cannot believe how fickle some people are. I think I'd prefer anyone on the list of candidates over Sam Allardyce, but I wouldn't end my association with the football club if he were appointed! In any case, I'd give him a chance.
simcla Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I am expecting tp get a lot of flak for this post..... What will be more important to the trustees, appointing BFS and the probability of staying in the prem with a limited budget, or appointing a more "exciting" manager and the risk of relegation, but with more ticket sales in the short term due to an "exciting" manager. BFS has proved over many seasons he can keep a team in the prem with a limited budget (for a considerable number of years with bolton) , albeit at the expense of good football... PS I would rather we had Bilic after a takeover with money to spend, but that is not the case. Horses for courses?
