While I am prepared to wait as long as it takes to get the right man I can see your concerns. However I am not sure too much business is going to be done during the Euros and the trenafer window isn't open yet.

Back to the vacant position we have. I read an interview with Billic in the observer a few weeks ago.

This guy is the business.

Spoke highly of Bentley and seemed very keen on managing in England. I actually feel that if we appointed him it would be a step up from Hughes, there is something about him and I hope he is on JW's shortlist.

Is this the article here.....?

Must admit he does come across well when he speaks about football, he is an intelligent guy and has knowledge of the Premier League. Can't say he would be my first choice but his stock is quite high right now.

with no track record?

some crazy swuggestions floating round at the moment.

unfortunately none seem as strong as hughes did 4 years ago..

Croatia is his track record.

Unlike Hughes Billic got his nation to a major championship and do you not remember Wembley. Croatia were through no problem but beat a team full of stars in their own backyard, just because they could.

as I said no rush if it means we get it right, but there's lots to do if you're going to hit the ground running at the start of the transfer window, and preseason. Mid week next week would be nice, or even next weekend which would take us to round about the timescale John williams was talking but beyond that you're starting to look like it's dragging on a bit.

I don't believe we need to worry about this dragging on. JW has already said he hopes to have named a manager by the end of next weekend. Between now and then, as is normal whenever there is a major international summer tournament, there is unlikely to be much movement in the transfer market by anyone (particularly not by clubs competing with our kind of budget) as people are holding out to see if any bargains appear in the Euro's. An apointment in the stated timescale is also sufficiently ahead of our pre-season friendlies. Finally, add to that we have received over 40 applications: we are clearly not hunting for someone but deciding who is right for us which means we are mostly in control of the timescale over which events will occur.

I was initially worried that we might not make an appointment until the Euro's were well over and we'd seen rival clubs snap up some good transfers but personally I'm pleased with the progress the club seems to be making in the search for a new manager which is more than I expected in the first few days after Sparky's departure.

every day im reading about hughes and city wanting a different one of our players. now i realise that this is probably more paper talk than anything else. but if hughes decided he couldnt take us to the next level and wanted all of this cash to spend, why is he trying to buy all of the players he had at blackburn?

That is a very good point.

Isn't it likely that Rovers have bound Man City and Hughes with non-solicitation clauses, preventing them from recruiting Blackburn players for at least a year? Hughes and followers will have confidential knowledge on Blackburn players' contracts and it would be reasonable to contractually prevent them from exploiting that insider info, surely.

No.

Presumably you can't do it? I know Mourinho wasn't allowed to take another job in the Prem for a year or that's what was commonly believed but that was presumably part of the packae he personally agreed to to get the pay off he got or whatever?

surely you cant tell hughes not to go for any of our players as they should be allowed to move anywhere they want, should they choose too?

if you told hughes that he cant go for any of our players wouldnt each player have to have a clause put into their contract for at least a year?

does that make any sense

The only way you can stop a player in contract from moving is by pricing him out of the transfer.

In Man City's current financial state I don't think that would necessarily be too difficult.

Nicko, are you so sure they are skint? If they are going to get Jo and Ronaldinho on finance then it's only a matter of time before they are seriously in trouble is it not? Is Hughes being led down the garden path?

Possibly. I certainly hope he fails at Citeh. Not out of bitterness - I just want our rivals to do badly.

If Thaksin doesn't get his finances defrosted in the next few years I think there could be the biggest collapse in football history.

In the meantime, best of luck to Sparky.

The Manchester Evening News tonight, though their City reporter Chris Bailey, are already saying that the Jo deal is falling through, despite everything pretty much being agreed.

I think they are letting the City fans down gently.

Presumably, Ronaldhino not signing will also be presented as Hughes 'in control' of transfer policy. Yeah, right.

And it lists the phenomenal number of so-called strikers already at the club - a dozen of 'em!

And not one managed to get anywhere near double figures last season.

This is one seriously badly run operation.

Never mind coming back to Ewood to do his shopping, Hughes has his work cut out just sorting the wheat from the chaf at Eastlands.

There will be a few sightings and daft rumours in the next few days...but don't get carried away.

Allardyce is flying back for talks tomorrow...so his fan club will go into over-drive. I notice that a few have been backing him in the past few hours.

Like I said earlier, this has a way to travel.

And there will be a bit of news around 10pm.
