Baggio Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 he had to build a brand new team. newcastle have been poor for years, bringing in has-been talent just to brag about names. when you start at a new job, do you feel that you know everyone you work with in and out after 6 months? i dont. to get people fit, happy and to understand each other takes more than half a season. i dont know newcastle that well, but there may be a lot of reason to sell. maybe contracts didnt last much longer? input from the board to get money? they didnt match his visions? first off, a draw away from home is good. even against derby if your team is struggling. blackburn have been awful against that type of teams under hughes - lost to all the relegated teams last season. we were about to lose to derby aswell. this was one of sparkys major problems. the fitness thing can be just as much the players as the manager. its not a good environment at newcastle. no wonder they are not fit. also he just had half a season to get them fit. its not at all his fault. look at what he did at bolton, not newcastle. even the "messiah" keegan couldnt get them winning. Lets hope he does get the job then and it'll be interesting to see how long you keep making excuses for him when you have to sit and watch his dross every week.
Alex Rover Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Shearer has ruled himself out live on BBC during Euro 98
imy9 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 VERY disappointed, the name alone would have lifted us up. Does this mean that Laudrup or Cate are to be interviewed? Nicko any updates on the matter?
yoda Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Beat me to it. No money to spend me thinks. Is that the 10pm news? more like bottled it with the way he spoke
Saf Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 TEN CATE blue white army no shearer then ten cate has to be next best option along with ince. forget bfs. his name jsut dosent seem to fill me with enthusiasm
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Shearer has ruled himself out live on BBC during Euro 98 I'm not sure which channel you are watching but it's 10 years behind.
Hasta Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Hope everyone from last night has got their envelopes ready for when they have to return their season tickets.
Hughesy Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I think looking at what he said - he obviously feels its a challenge and that he isnt yet up to it! Gutted he has turned down a chance for a chat though. Not happy with BFS, INCE, MCCLOWN OR MARTINEZ. How i hope Hen Ten Cate is on our list!!! Please!
Iceman Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 With shearer turning us down, can u smell what Allardyce is cooking?lol.come on JW Ten Cate is your man!
gumboots Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 more like bottled it with the way he spoke Just what my husband said.
krislu Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Not a fan of Shearer for manager but it's not good news that he has said no to even be in the running for the job. I have a bad feeling it might well be BFS now, and to be honest I would take a whole lot of managers before him, even Shearer...
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 As I said before, Allardyce is the man to keep us in the Premiership. But Henk Ten Cate could be the man to take us higher than we have been since the 90's.
Brownie Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Thats me depressed for the evening. Shearer wont get a better chance than this cos I dont see us asking him again. Very dissapointing
cn_barlow Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I think looking at what he said - he obviously feels its a challenge and that he isnt yet up to it! Gutted he has turned down a chance for a chat though. Not happy with BFS, INCE, MCCLOWN OR MARTINEZ. How i hope Hen Ten Cate is on our list!!! Please!IF he isnt on the list, then the board have some serious questions to answer.
bringdunnback Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Not a fan of Shearer for manager but it's not good news that he has said no to even be in the running for the job. I have a bad feeling it might well be BFS now, and to be honest I would take a whole lot of managers before him, even Shearer... Those are exactly my feelings now,
Baggio Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 At Newcastle he had arguably a stronger squad than Rovers - and one not suited to the long ball game, yet that's what tried to get them to play. I'm sure our friend Baggio will back that up. I wouldn't say we had a stronger squad but we had some very capable players, he also brought in 9 of them so I don't think he can hide behind the excuse that they were not suited to how he wanted to play. Most of us thought he played the way he did at Bolton because he was making the best of what he's got to work with and with a bigger budget he could play better football, he couldn't though and the long ball rubbish mixed with long throws is all that he knows.
Iceman Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 At least this wil make gumboots a little happier.we know she wants Ten Cate as manager, like me.Ten Cates blue and white army.
Brownie Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Allardyce back to odds on and life back to being depressing. Please pull something out of the fire Mr Williams.
hawkiiz Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Lets hope he does get the job then and it'll be interesting to see how long you keep making excuses for him when you have to sit and watch his dross every week. i wont defend him, but i will be patient. i dont expect us to go further up the table this season no matter who takes charge, but in a couple of years i will know what the new guy is about. all i am saying is i think sam is the best option and i want him for the job, but its no guarantee for success. nobody is. even sir alex would not be a guarantee. i would like bfs, ten cate, dick advocaat. but bfs know how it is to find players for free. ten cate does NOT. kind of relieved that shearer said no though.
brfcshabba Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Shearer wont get a better chance than this cos I dont see us asking him again. I honestly don't see many other clubs offering him a position. Or at least one in the Premiership. He may have taken his badges but can he really be bothered with day to day work when he is on a nice packet with the BBC sitting on his arse every Saturday
The Prof. Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 "It's Doooomm Dooooom I'll tell ye'' About the worst news we've had - people are turning us down. At last we have something in common with Chelsea
tony gale's mic Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Didn't nicko say the decision has been delayed before? This fills me with confidence that ten Cate is starting to be considered as a serious candidate. If it was as cut and dried as Big Sam/those other 3 candidates he mentioned they wouldnt have delayed it surely. I think there's a good chance he'll be our new boss...and with odds of 14/1 on Paddy Power its worth a flutter IMO. Betting has closed on BFS on there...
