There are one or two reasons behind this - but I have to keep them back. Will share in the morning.

Final thought? Narrow escape.

One or two reasons why he isnt past the post ? The morning news is about Allardyce ?

And 'narrow escape' - is this aimed at Shearer ?

The average manager stays in a job for something under 2 years on average.

He did 3 years with NAC Breda, then 3 years with Barca, then left to become manager of Ajax rather than assistant (and make Rikjaard look exposed). He was then poached by Chelsea after just one year. I don't care if he uses us as a stepping stone and leaves us in 3 years, as long as he leaves us in just as good as a position as we are in now, or, preferably, a better one.

Can anyone not busy tomorrow get down to Ewood/Brockhall (or better still find where BFS is staying and take out an important component from his car's engine so it doesn't start.) If I could I'd drive the 217 miles just to shout "no to BFS". Got meetings though so can't.

PLEASE

Nifty bit of news management by Shearer- getting his rejection of Rovers out 10 minutes before the Big Phil/Chelsea announcement.

I bet the BBC were in on the know out there and Shearer siezed his chance to avoid being number 1 negative headline.

That thought passed through my mind too. <_<

I'm distraught, can't believe it, how could he turn us down?

Scolari will never realise what an opportunity he missed at Ewood :D

As for big Al, he's the Beebs equivalent of Andy Gray, plays with the idea of being a manager but bottles it big time when the chance comes. Doubt if he will get another chance, looks like he wasted his time collecting his badges, just another Boy Scout. Anyway, close shave for us, if he hasn't the courage let him be the loafer on the sofa. He does make Hansen and Lineker appear entertaining.

Would be happy with Henk but most of all I still trust John Williams. If it is Allardyce it will be because he is the best candidate in the eyes of the board and that will be after very careful consideration. Still don't think he'll get it.

Besides, given Sam's luck with taking over a club and then seeing a new owner arrive he might be worrying himself!

Any chance of being a touch more specific about what tomorrow's news refers to Nicko ?

No, a bit of inside on the Shearer situ.

Allardyce obviously moves up a place, but they will talk to other including our hero Henk.

Narrow escape is Shearer. What a letdown and a phoney.

After reading Ten Cates mangerial history above, one thing struck me, he doesn't seem to stay in any job for very long

Hardly an original situation in football is it. Point is how many jobs did he leave and how many was he sacked?

Totally agree on Shearer - I'm back to being excited again.

Nico, is it possible that Shearer wasn't happy about being shortlisted? By that I mean do you think he is big headed enough to have wanted us to offer the job directly without interviewing the other candidates?

If you were a bookie Nicko, what odds would you offer on Allardyce ?

Also who do you think will be interviewed now ?

Allardyce and Cate plus ??? Ince ? Berg ?

I'm a bit worried about Ince and Berg, didn't they sink the Titanic?

I'f that's the case he's still showing himself to have no mettle. That's jsut like wanting to be handed 3 points instead of actually having to bother to play the match.

Considering his lack of any managerial experience, it's more like the UNDERDOG asking for 3 points without playing the match.

Alan Shearer tonight ruled himself out of the race to succeed Mark Hughes as

Blackburn boss. The 37-year-old former England captain had emerged as one of the favourites among fans of his former club in recent days, but after speaking to chief

executive John Williams, "politely declined" the offer of a place on the shortlist.

Asked about the situation in his role as a BBC pundit during tonight's Euro 2008 clash between Switzerland and Turkey, Shearer said: "The situation was, and is, that I was very flattered to have got a call from chief the executive, John Williams, at Blackburn.

"He asked me if I would like to be included on a shortlist for the manager's job, which I politely declined because of the commitments that I have, namely this one.

"I was very flattered to have been asked and I thank him for that. He has made two great decisions in his last two decisions for the managers, and I am sure he will go on and make a third one, and I wish him good luck."

The news will come as a blow to supporters who hoped the man who brought such

excitement to Ewood Park during his time there as a player would choose to launch

his managerial career on familiar territory.

It is not the first time Shearer has resisted the temptation to move into coaching - he has declined offers from former England boss Steve McClaren and current Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan since his retirement.

He has two years of his current BBC deal remaining and is clearly enjoying his media work, while the chance to spend more time with his family has also been welcome.

However, he has made no secret of the fact that he would like to go into management one day, although only when the time is right.

Shearer's elimination from the field which see the focus once again turn to MK

Dons boss Paul Ince, former Bolton and Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce and

Rovers old boy Henning Berg, among others.

I am gutted about Shearer making his stance tonight. It could be the worse decision of his life when he looks back in a few years. But in another sense if he wasnt sure then I certainly wouldnt want him taking over us in that frame of mind. I just dont understand how you can be happy with a job sat in a studio with the likes of Lawrenson and Dixon than manage a premiership football team!

Just looking at the other candidates, maybe we need to look at Laudrup and Advocaat - surely they have an expansive knowledge and good network all over Europe and a good backroom team behind them, which is key.

What about Avram Grant AND Henk Ten Cate, together?

I really do not want Allardyce. We would be back to where we were 5 years ago, playing dire football. His honeymoon period as a manager has long gone.

The script could not have been written better for Shearer to cut his teeth in management, before the inevitable 'dream scenario', first to the Mags and then on to England.

If he's declined such a gilt-edged opportunity, my question is Nix, apart from Newcastle; who would Shearer consider managing?

More pertinently, who now (in the Premier League) would be willing to give him such an opportunity?

Gumboots was just joking with ya! I know u have had a rough nite on here,so just trying to cheer u up.im sure u wil agree tho, that ten cate wil be a better option than bfs.

Oh I agree with you he would but I mean it when I said i don't really know who I'd like to see. And that's not a rough night. Try controlling some of my classes and teaching them to speak French, learn respect for each other and have a bit of a laugh on the side and you'll know what tough can be. I'm not the world's best teacher but I've survived more than 30 years of it so I can take a bit of rubbish from the guys on here. Besides as I said my younger daughter just got her Unii results today and they're better than she hoped so nothing could wreck my good mood (except allardyce ge.....No mustn't go there)
