Eddie Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 If anyone wants some easy money, there is still the option of laying Shearer on betfair and making a few pounds.

cn_barlow Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 The script could not have been written better for Shearer to cut his teeth in management, before the inevitable 'dream scenario', first to the Mags and then on to England. If he's declined such a gilt-edged opportunity, my question is Nix, apart from Newcastle; who would Shearer consider managing? More pertinently, who now (in the Premier League) would be willing to give him such an opportunity? Apart from Newcastle, nobody. Our fans only wanted him because of Nostalgia - other clubs do not have that. He's just shot himself in the foot big time with that decision. Destined to be Hansen MK2 Edited to say: I am very happy!
thenodrog Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I just dont understand how you can be happy with a job sat in a studio with the likes of Lawrenson and Dixon than manage a premiership football team! Two words..... Life expectency.
bats Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I really hope the board are stongly considering laudrup! Did really well at Getafe spending 15 million Euros and getting to the 1/4 finals of the UEFA cup! Youngish manager at 42, isn't that what rovers are looking for up and coming, exciting. A respected player, thus perhaps attracting a higher class of player unlike BFS and the wally with the brolly! Don't get me wrong I think that fat sam would do a good job but unfortunately too many people dislike both on the messageboard and elsewhere! My top choices would be: 1.Laudrup 2.Billic 3.Henk Ten Cate 4.Ince 5.Mancini (not gonna happen) 6. BFS 1,000,000. McClown
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I can't see him being offered such an opportunity as this anywhere else i.e. at a stable and well run premier league club. To be honest i'm not that disapointed as i had my doubts about him being ready for such a job. But i am worried that this now rules out one of the people on the shortlist and therfore increases the likelyhood of that BFS Sam becomming our next manager. IMO we should go all out for Ten Cate now. Get him interviewed before we lose him.
Eddie Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 If he is unsure about whether he'll ever want to be a manager then you can't blame the guy. He's got a great job, relatively few hours, good pay and no risk of losing it. If he ever wants to be a manager then he's made a stupid move. We will probably never go back to him now and I'm not sure how much longer Newcastle will wait around.
brfcshabba Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 BBC Here is the clip of Shearer speaking to Lineker if you haven't seen it.

He has not been asked by anyone since...
Brownie Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 For those who are ABA's , nice to note that he is now a bigger price than he was before the Shearer statement with money coming in especailly for Ince and some for Cate ( though that is probably us lot !)
philipl Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Yes, that was part of it. Shearer can go stuff it if that was his attitude.
SuperStella Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Maybe Flowers should give him a lecture about BOTTLE
Roversider Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Shearer can go stuff it if that was his attitude. Who is this Shearer character? Oh, someone from the past - remember nostalgia isn't what it used to be. At least we don't have to say the ego has landed.
bob fleming Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 If you don't have the bottle to lose out in an interview 'competition' you are no good as a manager. Shearer just marked his card...good and proper. Funny, someone in the game who I respect tipped he would do that at the crunch. Oh dear. That's very telling. Oh well. If he'd come in and mucked it up it would probably have tarnished my memories of the greatest player I've ever seen at the Rovers. What now? Henk Ten Jobs? Big Bloated Sam? Paul Bloody Ince? Paul Ince *shudder* that won't be easy, never liked him - nor Sam come to think of it. A. N Other? There's only 39 left now.
leftfooter Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 BBC Here is the clip of Shearer speaking to Lineker if you haven't seen it. Insincere, shallow and quite pitiful.
philipl Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Insincere, shallow and quite pitiful. True. He'd learnt that by rote and fluffed it the way someone reciting their lines does. Doesn't know a Chief Executive from a Chairman either. But at least he still pronounces Blackburn the way he learnt at Ewood.

Shouldn't Ince be ruled due to his gratuitously disparaging remarks about the club whilst at Inter? And who can forget his Man U shirted pose whilst still at West Ham? Not worthy.

Plastic Head Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 The bast@rd son of Graeme Souness and Tom Jones.....!!! Is he the man??? I dunno but what do we want? A manager who who may take us forward.....or the one who is least likely to get us relegated? Bearing in mind the current financial/ownership situation maybe the latter.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Nicko, any idea on how long we have left until Ten Cate has to give a decision to Panathanaikos?
John Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Lot of people within the game think Ince is a big time charlie, like when he made those disrespectful comments about us.
AndyC Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 PLENTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Told you it was one or the other. Feeling quite pleased with myself right now. Nothing better than beating the bookie. scotty - think you have an apology to make fella....
nicko Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Nicko, any idea on how long we have left until Ten Cate has to give a decision to Panathanaikos? He won't take that until he knows what is happening at Rovers...
Brownie Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Are you publishing a story about Ten Cate tomorrow Nicko ? And if so what is the angle ? Any idea why Allardyce's odds have drifter badly over the last nour and why Ince's odds have plummeted ?
