Ray-Von Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Very quick question to Nicko - if Ten Cate were to be installed as Manager, have you any idea who his backroom team would be? Any chance of Steve Clarke because of the Chelsea connection?
AggyBlue Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Shearer doesn't want a club that he has to REALLY manage and show his tactical awareness. He wants a club that has millions and millions behind them, where he can fill his squad with superstars and look like a good manager. With the millions providing as many 'get out of jail' cards as he needs. Obviously he's not too confident about having to show his real worth as a manager.

nicko Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Right. Shearer - and his 'people' - started laying down demands about still working with the BBC, possible merchandising deals, and other clauses. It all got a bit 'large' and I think Rovers backed off a bit before Big Al said no. However do not let anyone tell you that this was NOT Shearer's job. I know for a fact that Rovers contacted the Premier League to discuss special dispensation for him as he does not have the coaching qualifications. This would have been granted. So the fairy story about a text and a polite 'no' are garbo. This went a long way in the previous 48/72 hours. Now it's a fresh start. Big Sam's arrival will get tongues wagging, but there will be more interviews to come. Let's see how they cope with the interview process and who impresses.
nicko Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 On a lighter note...I wonder what the combined total of Scolari winnings was around here?
AggyBlue Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Now it's a fresh start. Big Sam's arrival will get tongues wagging, What's the best way to treat a stiff neck? Never mind. I'll ask the local Notlobbers.
Earlydoors Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Mirror, People...and no integrity... Nicko, I know you take an undue amount of flak from the ungrateful who see this thread as self-promotion...stuff 'em..any chance of posting regular links to your stories as they publish ?
rovers_rob Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 On a lighter note...I wonder what the combined total of Scolari winnings was around here? I won about £260 !! Cheers nicko !
Bobby G Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Merchandising deals and the sorts as well as staying at the BBC? And then he goes onto TV to say HE has rejected us...He couldve kept on talking privately instead of being a prat on air.
Ricky Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Took over what he saw as a bigger job at MK Dons, and led them instantly to the Championship. I know he's done Ok Rev but surely he cant go up two divisions in one season??? He took them out of league 2 to league 1 after spending more than anyone else in the league. You'll be championing Graham Turner next
Mc Love Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Well Ince has more league experience as a manager than Hughes when he took over from Souey
roverich Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 "Alan Shearer last night revealed he had been offered the job and turned it dowm" - really? when exactly did he say he'd been offered the job nicko? tut tut tut, stretching/tweaking the truth a little here and there, turns out you are a "reporter" afterall. Is there any truth to the reports which say Allardyce is holding meetings with the club today? I really do hope not.
EwoodGlory Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 On a lighter note...I wonder what the combined total of Scolari winnings was around here? £120 in total for me, £70 yesterday and £50 last week, when he dropped down to about 2.5. I owe you a fair few pints by now, after this and megson and others I bet Scotty had a few quid on him
AggyBlue Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Well Ince has more league experience as a manager than Hughes when he took over from Souey Ince doesn't quite fit in with our 'friendly and homely' reputation as a club.

Is there any truth to the reports which say Allardyce is holding meetings with the club today? I really do hope not. It WAS Shearer's job. If he said yes, it was his. There was NO-ONE else talked to in the depth that he had been - all the others were basically left dangling and put off.
Darth Paul Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 My first instincts with Shearer were "No way" with regard to him becoming our manager. Then after a while I must admit I got caught up a bit in some of the euphoria about him coming, mainly on my part (and I thnk the same is true for most others) due to the sentimentality connected with his playing career here and being able to chant his name again. Now he isn't coming I have gone back to being glad. It was always a heart ruling the head thing for me anyway, and the truth is Shearer has always looked after Shearer, be it coming here in the first place, leaving for failure at Newcastle, or quitting England. If he had really wanted in he would have dropped the BBC like a stone. For someone who was always reportedly a bit "slow" according to team mates, he doesn't half manage to get his own way. Our gain in the Geordies loss anyway. mark my words, if he ever gets the job there he will leave at some point, when the time is right for Shearer and wrong for the club. Lucky escape with hindsight.
broadsword Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Henk Ten Cate is the clear choice for me now. We can't afford to hire Allardyce and watch the crowd melt away. I feel sorry for all those people who laid money on Scolari ... and watched the money roll in.
Flopsy Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I'd give Ince a try, it'll be a struggle first season, but I expect that the squad will be strong enough to cope.
promoted2001 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Nicko do people at the club know how the fans feel about Allardyce? I haven't renewed my season ticket yet, waiting to see who's hired. I think if Allardyce comes in I will be slightly more on the side of no than yes. Don't get me wrong he did a great job at notlob but he can play some god awful football. Have they moved the search overseas yet?
Mc Love Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I bet Scotty had a few quid on him I think we all know he didnt

Have they moved the search overseas yet? I think they do take a lot of notice of public opinion. Without being funny that is a benefit of being a 'smaller' supported club - as the opinions of the fans have to matter more because their continued support is needed. And, yes, the net is slightly abroad - but I have to say the new and possibly extra names I hear being whispered are mainly domestic.
AggyBlue Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 do people at the club know how the fans feel about Allardyce? I'm certain JW knows he'd need to wear a hard hat to games if he hired BFS.
Mc Love Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Would i be correct in assuming the BFS's friends have been spreading lies, that we want him as manager....same probably could be applied to Shearer
